feelergaugephil
02 XX, I am currently using Michelin Pilot powers of which I really can't fault..... except they wear out really quickly, I was thinking of switching to continentals to see if they are better, Roads here in Louisiana are 90% straight so the middle wears out really without using the sides, I was up at Deals Gap (N.Carolina) I used the hell out of the sides........ So what tires should I go to? or just put up with the wear factor!!
JB4XX
Buy the black round ones... 90% straight/flat roads? Pilot Roads.

airborneXX
I've been running the Metzeler M1 front and Z6 rear combo. So far 9,000 miles mostly highway. No trouble with grip in the twisties.

Keith
if you've used them how many miles should I expect...I have them waiting and will be installed on new bike next week...pls advise I usually get 5000+ miles out of a set of Pilot Roads. Very good tire, IMHO; good traction in most conditions and seem to last a reasonable amount of miles, given the 'bird's weight and HP. testrider
I have been using only OEM Bridgestone BT57 and they last from 10000 to 14000 miles a set.

So what tires should I go to? or just put up with the wear factor!! I had Pilot Roads last for 17,000km rear and the front came off with about 2-3,000 km left. I then got Pirelli Stradas [front one was free- so price was right] and have about 10,000 km on them so far. Both sets of tires corner well enough for me, but I was in the slow group at Red Bluff. RXX
I got Metzler M3's last June, the rear showed cord at 5K, and the front is starting to get thin on the edges. I have not been abke to do much more than 5K on any set I have ever gotten. I think I am going with the Z6 combo this week. How the HELL do some of you guys get 9,000 miles out of a set? xrated
Philip wrote: How the HELL do some of you guys get 9,000 miles out of a set? Philip, they air the tires up to max (42psi), never get the engine RPM over about 5K, and do a lot of coasting to a stop.

airborneXX
How the HELL do some of you guys get 9,000 miles out of a set? Other than constantly maintaining my tire pressure at 42 PSI I don't know how. I'm not easy on the throttle or the brakes, and I've done a couple of small burnouts I was expecting 6-7k at best and I'm at 9,300 and still not to the inner most wear bars. Para045
Just heard about these Pilot Road 2, they look like a Road version of the power2ct, dual compound - same as normal PR in the center but with stickier sides ( probably like the powers ) . If that is the case then I think that I will look at getting a rear one of these and keep the PP front when the current PR wears out :icon_think:
Pete in PA
Now were talking! I hoped they were going to do that, and they look cool. When I use up my current stock I'll be getting these.
oldgeezer
Have just about gone through a set of Pilot Roads at 6500 miles. There's no cord showing (like Philip's tires) and technically they're not bald, but they're toast. No way I'd trust these in the wet after the rear suddenly broke on me last week. I'm like Phil - How in the hell do these guys get 8 and 9k miles? Jesus - I'm a slow 64 year old fart and like TimXX, I'd be lumped in the slow group too. I ride briskly but don't push the envelope and try to be smooth in shifting, braking, acceleration, etc. and can't get near that mileage (I use the recommended 42 psi. pressure). Honestly the Pilot Roads have been excellent and I really can't complain. They stick very well and give pretty decent mileage. I'll probably stay with the them. However - the new Pilot Road 2 looks very very tempting (see pic below). First time I've seen these. Wonder if these are now readily available? Pilot Roads have been good tires and I really can't complain. They stick good enough and give decent mileage. I'll probably stay with the them for now, although the Pilot Road 2 looks sweet (jury is out for the moment). Thanks for the feedback!!! Pilot Roads now on bike..looking to wear them out. oldgeezer
Thanks for the feedback!!! Pilot Roads now on bike..looking to wear them out. IMO you really can't go wrong with the Pilot Roads for all around street tire performance. Good traction, stable, and have good life. I've run a variety of other tires, and have not found their equal. You can buy stickier tires that last 2000 miles, but unless you ride track day speeds on the street (which you shouldn't be doing anyway) in my opinion you're just throwing money away. Lots of guys feel an extra sticky tire is good insurance even if they do wear out faster, and I agree with that - to a degree. But since I don't ride at that extreme "9/10" pace, the more practical Pilot Road is a much better choice for me. Just my $0.02.

Not sure how long they will last but so far with 3,200 miles on them thay are doing better than my Dunlops did.
