Bar mods: Subbing VFR for XX on an 06

SR-71

Recommended Posts

Be gentle with me ... its my first (probably dumb) question

I've read a lot about replacing XX bars with the VFR version to improve riding position ('specially for us old blokes), including what I've been able to find here so far. But everything I've seen talks about doing this on models of the 99 - 03 genre.

Does the fact that there's little / no info about this particular mod for 04 - 06 models mean that it can't be done? I've compared the config on two live oem versions. the VFR bars look like they _should_ fit an 06 XX.

Has anyone done this mod to a later (06 specificallY) XX?

If so, are there any issues with wiring grooves / weights / etc?

Thanks in advance.

it's probably only because they stopped bringing in birds to the US in 2003................................we are the forgotten ones who live here......................mr honda sucks.................so you leading this invasion? will you guys be arriving by ship? maybe this time they'll let you aussie's ride above decks ?

There's only one deck on a row-boat.

I'll be the one armed to the teeth with bbq-ing implements.

Grrrrr.

:)

I'm 100% sure it will work. I've seen it done here in my shop last month.

I can't see Honda changing the fork size of the 04-06 XX's so it should work without a problem.

I would confirm your forks are 43mm(I believe) first before I bought a set..

I'm 99% sure they would work

Thanks for that.

Now I know its definitely worth pursuing.

Cheers

That's a whole other can of worms. I'm 5'10", 200 lbs, 33" sleeve, 30" inseam. I had a set of Heli bars on my bike, about the same as the VFR bars, when I bought it. Rode it 800 miles home and couldn't wait to put the stock bars back on. Sat me up too straight and didn't work worth a darn with the Gilles Tooling rearsets. Stock bars for me and this way I didn't have to spring for a taller windscreen. I also dumped the Corbin seat it came with and went back to the stocker. Love my bird now. I'm gonna do a BBG 1500 in a couple of weeks just cause the opportunity is there. Oak Ridge, TN to Palm Beach, FL via Nashville, Mobile, and then back, I'll pick up whatever miles I need by running down to the Keys and back.

+1 on that the fork dimensions are the same 96-2006 so should fit no problem - the hard part will be finding the bars unless you are going to go for new as second hand they are like rocking horse shit as I have been looking for some for 3 months now. :icon_wall: There was one set on eBay just recently but he wouldn't shipp O/S and they went to $ 108 US and did not hit the reserve :icon_eek:http://www.cbr1100xx.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=39842 :icon_duh:

Hi..I have just fitted a set of VFR bars (must be V-Tec 2002 onwards ) to my 03 Bird and as an old godger (mid 50's in age and 5ft 7ins short )was from comfort point of view night and day.Paid $400 Australian new(result was worth 3 times that) and Honda dealer fitted in 1 hour.

Pretty sure late model Birds are still 43mm dia so go for it.

Cheers

So where did you manage to find them for Aus $ 400 as I am in Perth and the local stealer quoted $570 :icon_eek: without internal weights :icon_think:
