Aurora
What weight oil does everyone run in the desert? 10w40, 20w-40 or 20w-50? The bike has less than 8k miles so I want to run a normal mineral type oil? Thx, Bob

SBBXX
Don't live in the desert but to me hotter temps usually mean heavier oil.
Warchild
Mobil One 15w-50.... gold cap nowadays, I believe.
GriffXX
Mobil One 15w-50.... gold cap nowadays, I believe. Always listen to Dale. It does have a Gold cap, but several of their weights now have a gold cap. Look for the GOLD cap, with the 15w-50 in white letters in a RED text box. Lots of very knowledgeable bike riders swear by this stuff.
MrBadExxample
Mobil One 15w-50.... gold cap nowadays, I believe. I certainly respect Dale's opinion. But I've always thought the low viscosity blends like Rotella Synthetic 5W-40W or Mobil 0W-40W gave better lubrication on startup, especially on cold mornings. Any truth to this reasoning? However the question was about running the desert.
tvking
It's a Honda. Olive oil, corn oil, synthetic oil, it doesn't care. Ride the wheels off it. Actually I use 15w-50 Gold cap.
The Krypt Keeper
I am not in the desert but in VA during the summer I ride in 100 deg days with 90% humidity. I am running Shell Rotella Syn 5W40 and never had an issue yet. Even with it being 100 outside my bike still runs around 190 - 195 while cruising.. If I get into some dirty air being stuck behind a car or something it will climb to 210 and just sit there..
