pace
Just wondered if anyone has tried using the "GPS City Ezy Mount for Motorcycles" on their 'bird. It is a ball mount that works with all of the RAM modular components. It is shown here: http://www.gpscity.com/g/r/l/ramezykaw1.jpg ..and again here, this time with a Valentine-1 detector: http://www.gpscity.com/g/r/l/ramezyhon1.jpg Cheers. -Pace
bar10dah
I'm using a RAM mount from http://cyclegadgets.com/Products/RAM/ram.asp?prod=EMAP http://www.speedextreme.com/keith/2003.05.28.001.jpg http://www.speedextreme.com/keith/2003.05.28.003.jpg http://www.speedextreme.com/keith/2003.05.28.006.jpg http://www.speedextreme.com/keith/2003.05.28.007.jpg
pace
Thanks! I placed an order for some RAM mount components today and will let you all know how they work out. -Pace
pace
Well the "RAM Ezy Mount for Motorcycles" is a direct fit for the XX. I combined it with a 3" arm, and then the ball mount and holder for my specific GPS. The Ezy Mount attaches to your clutch or front brake bracket by removing the OEM clamp screws and using the provided longer allen bolts. All the pieces seem like high quality, and are specced as being 'aircraft grade aluminum'. All pieces are coated with a satin black finish. This will flake off if you are careless. The RAM part # at gpscity.com is RAM-EZY-502. This part is priced at $38.95 which is significantly more expensive than many of the 'generic' mounts. When combined with the other pieces needed, the total cost for my mount was $70 (plus s/h). This is acceptable to me. I am impressed enough with this that I will likely buy another for the right handlebar on which to mount my fuzz buster. Cheers. -Pace
bar10dah
Nice setup, but dude... Did you not go to the site I posted? It's cheaper there! I swear! I paid something like $42 with shipping for mine.
pace
The site you referenced lists the Ezy Mount at $39.95. I basically paid the same price - $38.95 at GPSCity. At both sites, this is just includes the Ezy Mount and one ball. To mount my GPS I had to additionally purchase a 3" arm, a ball-plate, and the GPS cradle. Total cost for everything needed was $70. Cheers. -Pace [Edit] From the pictures it looks like you used the U-bolt mount instead of the Ezy Mount. I think that is a more cost-effective solution, but I just preferred the look of the Ezy.. pace
Keith, Just wondering if you leave your mount and cradle attached when you're not using the GPS, or if you remove it in case of theft. Although it's trivial to detach the arm from the handlebar ball, it would be nice to leave it in place to save re-adjusting the mount everytime I want to use the GPS.. :???: -Pace
bar10dah
I usually leave it on. If I were to park in a questionable area, I'd take it off. Yeah, I looked at the same mounting system you did, but I bought the one I have because it was easier to get the GPS up higher and better into my field of view. The one you bought looks hell of a lot cleaner than the u-bolt type, but put the GPS in a spot I didn't like.

The one you bought looks hell of a lot cleaner than the u-bolt type, but put the GPS in a spot I didn't like. I hear ya. The top ball position is a little high - good for something like a radar detector, but not for the GPS. The lower ball position might be a little too low for some, but I'm short and it is perfect for me. It will also raise considerably higher than I have it in those pictures. -Pace

It is shown here: I ordered one and it should be here today. I'll see how it does. Right now I'm using a "Mirror Mount" Base installed onto one of my clip-on pinch bolts, and using 2 short arms and a connector to wrap it around to where I want it.
