Intermittant Glowing FI/Service Light

Okay, about 14K miles on the clock, was out riding today, nice weather. All of a sudden I get a very faint glow on the "S" light on my 2000 CBR XX. After a bit it goes off, then glows on again getting brighter and intermittant. If I flip on the high beams it goes out but then returns shortly thereafter.

When I pull up to a stoplight it goes out, then come on again real dim, I turn a turn signal on and it gets brighter after a few seconds then blinks in unison with the turn signal.

Does it sound like the rectifier/regulator? I was thinking about just replacing that for starters.

Try checking and resetting the codes on your ECU. I had the same problem and followed many dead ends.

There are several things you can check if that doesn't fix the problem. You can check the chassis ground (a bundle of green wires near the battery on the left side.). You will have some folks tell you about a wiring loom problem on the '99's and '00's. I checked mine and it was fine with no corrosion.

My problem persisted until I reset my ECU. Get a manual (or download one) if you don't have one. The check/reset procedure is detailed there.

Thanks for the advice on resetting the ECM will do that, and check the contacts. The bike hasn't seen rain or bad weather and is parked inside all the time but still will check connectors and everything. Hopefully the rectifier isn't the problem but if all else fails I'll replace that too... may do it just for good measures.

Okay, I pulled the 20 pin connector with the cap on it. Wasn't in too bad of shape, a little white inside and a little bit of junk in one corner but that was it, contact cleaner, brushed, fine fine sandpaper on the male prongs, a little tiny bit of dielectric grease and back together. Fired the bike up, no light, bike gets warm, glowing intermittant light is back on... Grrrrr...

Did some reading and took the kickstand switch off and cleaned it just for kicks... Still got glowing light. Not seeing the flast codes when letting bike sit on side stand running and am going to jumper the service conector to see if anything stored in ECM.

May go ahead and order a new sidestand switch as well to see if that does it or may just sodder those wires in the loom as read about.

+3 on the ground. If its got a funky ground connection all kinds of weird shit starts to happen. Hell, in my car when it had a bad ground each one of my popup headlights would randomly start going up and down. It was really freaky - very scary... :D

Just Forget about it .....the side stand that is !!!

Read above and check, clean & reconnect the grounds. This has happened to many many many ....... most all the time it is the ground connection somewhere. Mine was under the tank.

Did someone say check the grounds yet ??

That would be my guess

It glows or it blinks ?????

If it glows, you either have a bad ground, or your harness shorts with the frame. Known issue for '99/'00 'Bird....
