Headset CHange

I am ready to change the Headset in my 97XX.. any suggestions on what type of lift apparatus to use, i have wheel stands but now I gotta get this heavy bitch off the ground!!! any preferences in what type of lift??? or trial and error stories??? or put it best, whats the proverbial "shit in a bag of chips" to have in your personal inventory of tools??

You can pick the whole damn bike up by the exhaust header. I'd put it on the centerstand with one of them little $30 floor jacks under the header with a piece of 2x4 on it. That way you can move the front end up and down to your leisure.

Just be sure the front doesn't get too low, or block the centerstand so it can't fold up. If the floor is uneven, or tips one way or another, the bike could mover forward if the floor jack lost its pressure...and make flat on the ground. :roll:

I lift it by the oil pan, as it's more centered than the header is, and feels more stable.

Just lift the bike high enough that the rear wheel touches the ground, and you have 4 points stabalizing.

Either that, or remove the tank, and support the bike by it's frame from a rafter with tie downs. :)
