Pete in PA
Speedo shoud be almost exactly right now also, considering my 5% high readings. I'm glad I'm not the only one who has thought of doing this with everyone else gearing down.

Tell me Pete, how does the bike run with the 18 compared to stock? I know mileage should be better and obviously topend would be more, Not that I need that after yesterday. I guess, what are your impressions of the overall benefits?
RodeRash
I know mileage should be better and obviously topend would be more Don't bet on a higher top speed with a stock motor. With a stock motor, and a one tooth larger countershaft sprocket, I would expect that you would be able to go faster in 5th gear than you would in 6th. (unless you are running downhill with a tailwind) Not sure if you would get better mileage or not. It depends on how you ride.
Northman
The Bird can't pull 6th all the way stock. Adding gear may hurt top end, as 6th will be completely useless at the top of it's range. Rev limiter in 5th will probably be all you get. Forrest probably doesn't have much trouble pulling 6th on his ride, though

Pete in PA
Dion, I've thought of doing it, haven't done it yet. Just put on new chain and sprockets, all stock. Going to be another 25K miles till I think about it again.

Northman
Good thinking. We should look into that.......
