dante18
Anyone using this oil in their bike? Any good? A friend had some he didn't use and gave me it. Just curious how it handles in hot temperatures. steve

dante18
This is probably a stupid question, but is 5w-40 too thin of an oil? How will it handle heat in the engine? I know thicker oils help with engine heat.
rideonXX
The 5w-40 will be great-----base recommendation is 10w-40---but the 5w only means it will flow like a 5w when tested at a specified temperature--has nothing to do with amount of protection afforded. There is extensive discussion on this subject at this forum---worth a read. Just do a search for 'synthetic oil'---------happy trails kel

rideonXX
No---I have '97 (fast black of course) and normally spend a lot of time up the canyon on 33 or 150 from Santa Paula to Carpenteria----but have been on my '03 ST1300 a lot lately (same rides) as I have the Bird ready to do some maintainance---as well as change over to the Hyperpro springs--but one of these days-------you? Happy trails kel
