  1. Agree. Last time I tried Valvoline's synthetic brake fluid. It's holding up much better than the Honda brand. I guess it has something to do with the higher boiling temp?
  2. Yep.... do it all the time. Starts every time too... until I let out the clutch... DOOAAAAAA! Killed it again, OOOOOH YA. But I only do that about once a week. I like to yell "ROOKIE !!!" when someone does that. Makes me laugh every time.
  3. Thanks to those that offered!!! You guys rock! :allhail: :allhail: :allhail: :allhail: :allhail: :allhail: :allhail: :allhail:
  4. I'm replacing the chain and would like to borrow someone's heavy duty rivet link tool to fit the 530 chain. (The tool to peen/round/stake the rivet) I'll be glad to pay shipping both ways. I promise to take good care of your "tool" and treat it like it was my own. PM me or whatever. Many thanks! Walter
  5. I'm not saying you can't read directions...but it's possible you read them wrong. The linked brake system must be bled in a specific order. If you start with the wrong piston, you could end up with the problem you're describing. I wouldn't know that by experience or anything.... RTGwalt
  6. Joe...You have accomplished what I could not. I hounded the dealer, everything. :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: I'm not worthy, I'm not worthy !!! RTG
  7. That's what I'm worried about. I know there are more stories like this and I don't want to add to the list. It freaks me out man  Currently...I have the original chain on my XX. You can bet it will get the best care to make sure I don't have to cross that bridge anytime soon. But when I do...I want an endless chain. I'm willing to take off the swingarm to install it. RTG
  8. At 150mph....it's an issue to me. Just like some people can't live with a plugged tire, I find it hard to live with the replacement chain's rivet link. But then again...I wacked in the head !   RTG
  9. I couldn't hijack the other guys topic so I moved it here.... I challenge you to find a "rivet link" on the original chain that came on the bike from the factory...one that you can point to and say "this is the link where they joined the two ends together". Yes...they are all riveted links, but they're not the flimsy (master) links that you find in your replacement chain kit. They are the strong, machine stamped links and I'm sure you'll find every link is identical to the one next to it. No, it doesn't count unless you've owned the bike since day one to know it hasn't been replaced. RTG

    DID Chain Tool

Am I the only NUT that can't live with this "rivet" crap!?! The bike comes from the factory with an endless chain. All the links are like the others. NO RIVET CRAP!! Why do we have to put up with riveting the chains? I would rather take apart the swing arm to install an endless chain - like the one that came on the bike new - than live with the f*king rivet! Paranoid...I know. But why? Why can't we order them? They're putting them on new bikes at the factory! RTG
  11. Warren, I have a 2001 also. Those are my normal numbers. I don't think you have any cause for alarm. RTG
  12. Steve, I've replaced a lot of motorcycle batteries in my time. None have come close to giving me the service life of a "YUASA" brand battery. My worst experience....Interstate batteries. RTG
  13. Hobicus, I believe you have solved my problem. Intuitively, I first set the floats just above level when holding upside down. That setting poured out the gas. Next, I used the 18mm measurement and measured from top of the float (opposite of first part to touch fuel). That adjustment cut the gas off completely. Additionally, since the float was turning the fuel off too early( OK...completely) it caused the fuel pump to shut down from too much resistance. That's when I knew I needed help. Thanks! :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: RTG
  14. Has anyone tried setting the float level on one of these V-Twins? I'm trying to help out my bud - he doesn't have a Clymer (damn it) and it has me stumped. This is the one with a fuel pump - so the level is critical. I've found some info talking about attaching a clear hose to the bowl drain and extending it up the side of the carb to measure how high the fuel rises. I believe it needs to be 15-18mm - but I don't know where to measure from. Has anyone tried this before? Thanks, RTG
