    XX knocking

I'm now offered a suggestion that it's a 'sticky valve' not really clear what that is
  2. I was a lazy &(&*^% I did it with the forks in. I opened the bottom bolt and it went back ok. I let it drain for a day and flushed oil through it as well. Centering the forks is the only difficult bit. I had tightened up too many things before I aligned it. Made a big difference with new oil.
  3. Well I marked them before I moved them with tippex. It's easy really - except the left hand one! and you can clearly hear the squeal. BUT - when it had cooled down I started it to put it away and the squeal was back?? I hadn't got the time to let it heat up. Do I have to try again tomorrow????? Thanks in advance. I change the coolant as well which was easy - didn't take as much as it claimed in manual. Have those manuals thanks
  4. I think the Haynes manual is incorrect on one of the shafts - it says to turn it anti-clock and then anti-clock one graduation. That can't be right. Also it doesn't really distinguish clearly between the rear idle and rear balancer. It should say one on right and one on left.
  5. They say to use heavier tyre for the Bird - I had a row with the Michelin guy in UK about it he said only HPX only tyre and correct weight. He should know.

Thanks - found it in another post with pics of all three. I couldn't find the left side balancer. Got to go see the bike now.
  7. Thanks guys for all the info. Going to try it. Still wondering how you get at the left side balancer seeing as how I couldn't find it at all.
  8. Thanks a ton for that - was losing my mind looking for it - still have to locate it on the bike and do the job

  10. Yea have one-I'm tall too. Better than double bubble. I have it set at max all the time There is another one with a flip at the top but no adjustment which I would like to try buy can't justify expense. They warn not to adjust while in motion. I agree ! ! ! !

Been suggested to me by a mechanical guy that I should check oil pressure. Could be low at tickover.

Well here we are in June 2009 ! and I have a Blue Blackbird which has a leprechaun trying to get our. He's ok as long as the revs are up - he hates idling - then he knocks at a nice even tempo. I though it might be as a result of being late with an oil change but reading this it seems it may not. I changed the oil but no different. Performs well. The bike is never abused fast at time but rarely 'race starts'. There is another thread on koncking which mentions 'open heart surgery' - scary!!!!!!!! Any - greeting from Ireland once again - home of Obama (great great)x99 grandparent.
  14. I've done the forks on a BMW K1100 by sliding off the tubes only. This way you can wash them out easily. I think they say to take out froks complete to work on them. The K has a bolt above the spindle too. Will this work with a Bird??
  15. I need to change fork oil - anybody do it without takin gout forks- don't wnat a major job!
