  1. I went for gas a month ago in 30 degree weather.

Pulled up to the pump, kept it running (cause the battery was weak) gased up, check the girlie watching me in the suburban, square up to drive off, downshift and STALLS.........................

Battery wouldn't turn it over. Kick stand safety got me. DOH !

So I rolled it and jumped on it and caught it in first and rode off into the darkness.....................

    1 for two.

  2. F'n CLASSIC.............. So I guess I'm screwed huh?

So do I lean on Pirelli because the tire was backordered? (Bought in Feb)

because I don't get an invoice or receipt until I get the tire delivered............So I cann't send in the completed form with a reciept. GRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

    Kinda of a catch-22........................

the promotion ended....  ......

  3. BTW: The tire came UPS and it was 28 degrees out or so. The tire was sticky in my hands at that temperature so I'll bet these stick like glue when up to temp and wear REALLY fast.........

I sent invoice and coupon with credit card info for shipping. I did call pirelli yesterday they were real helpful they are trying to find out what happen.I have the rear installed and so far it seems to stick and feel better than the dunlop it replace but with the worn out cupped front I cant really push it.
  4. Okay so I got a rear now.............I sent in the coupon for the free front and the shipping $20............. Visa info.

Let's see how long this takes...................

Tempted to do another one before the month is up (and the promotion)

$140 for two is alright!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 IMHO

  5. Everyone (okay three sources) is on backorder.

Ron Ayers & Kneedraggers (noted above)

Bought mine in Feb still not here. UPS says expect arrival date is Fri 3/19........I have the coupon and the CC info ready to go.

    MARCH 31 DEADLINE..............................

Hell I may buy two at this price but SLOW getting them....................just in time for the first set to wear out?

  6. Because the manager of the shop was a nice guy (refunded a tire - Christmas gift) I'd buy misc items and other items from them.

As a reference the Pirelli Diablo rear was ~$190 vs $120 shipped from Ron Ayers...............If they do my mount and balance I figure I'm still ahead. -Suf Daddy

    SNIPPED:

    Last time I went to

Cycles 128 they charged me 2+ hours labor! I don't

know how much of that had to do with me not

    buying the tires there.

    thanks, Ted

  7. I have a 1157 right here in my hand. I've been doing experiments with it:

    3 THINGS:

Brake Beam on Ebay? Not the best: You need two they sell them 1 at a time.

MANY sellers out there. Shop around LEDTronics Inc., and other have MULTIPLE sites. Get 1157 30 LEDs minimum. Find the new ones with extra facing backwards

Some of these companies (do yahoo.com & google.com search) sell LEDs off the back of the bulb MAJOR IMPOROVEMENT !!!! Why?

Well those back facing LED project NO light into the brake lens reflector (where the bulb going into.)

So they are dim in comaprison Vs. Incadescents. Because the incadescent bulb actually projects light behind it due to the balloon shape of the glass.

    I have DVD-R video I can e-mail about the test.-Suf Daddy

I have a '97, and was wondering if anyone out there has updated their early XX with one of the newer, longer oem lenses. Is it a simple bolt on as I'm hoping?

I need all the safety advantages I can get around here. I'm also thinking of adding led bulbs to replace the stock #1157's- any possible issues there that anyone can clue me in on?

    Thanks for any advice!

  8. 97 carbed w/ 29K

Boston: ~30 degrees tonight, so I went for a 13 mile run to get gas and cruise the interstate. Used choke to maintain 2500 RPM so I wouldn't push bike home...........if it stalled.

Bike stored indoors ~50 degree but bike sat outdoors for 1 hour while jumping battery and warming up.

    Q's:

On the freeway, above 50 MPH bike thumped like tires out of balance, but accelerated smoothly and if I eased the throttle back, I could feel a GENTLE chain backlash meaning I was slowly coasting and loosing speed.

Meaning coasting was smooth and vibration free.

Tires suspect? They were hand warm 6 miles later at the gas station.

    OR:

Chain has MAJOR slack. Like WELL past the change chain tag. Is this the cause of the vibration/shudder on the freeway? Quick trip to 75 and all was smooth...............

A combination maybe? Or is the choke also fighting the cracked throttle?

I have new sprockets and waiting for tires to do all at once.

    -Suf Daddy

  9. Excellent, Thanks for the info. I figured there couldn't be a diff between 97 & 98 unless the sprocket was "offset" differently.

    Thanks! Rock.........

    -Suf Daddy

No, you shouldn't be worried. For instance, the same sprocket fits an old CB750 as well. It's not the "same" as the XX front sprocket, because that has the rubber damper in it, but none of the aftermarket sprockets are available with that feature, as far as I know.

  10. Just ordered two Vortex sprockets from a listers recommendation.

The items were drop shipped from suppliers to me.

The FRONT sprocket is Part # 3504-17

Looks right with same number stamped on part but here's the question:

    The sticker list(s) these applications:

    Honda CBR 1000 87 - 96 AND CBR1100 98-99.

Should I be concerned if I have (what I suspect is a nearly identical '97?) a bike NOT listed in the application sticker?

  11. Okay I've gone through the 97 service manual sect: 3-20 and other sections...only drive sprocket torques...................

What is the OEM front sproket #

What is the OEM rear spoket #

Figured out the chain: manual covers that..................

Gonna Try Ron Ayers, but they list two choices in 17T fronts.

looked under transmissions.........HOW ABOUT LISTING AN F'N SPROCKET

    Front? 23801-MAT-000 $39.14 17T or

    23801-MAT-760 $41.14 17T

    Rear: 41201-MAT-A00 Sprocket 45T $72.43

    or 41201_MAT-670 Sprocket 45T $74.90

  12. Awwwww it was more fun to push the bike to the top of the driveway and "b"ump start it (twice) in second jumping down on the seat.

Wow was that a work out!

I stalled it at a stop sign so I rolled downhill to get it going again.............

I run the choke (97 carb) so idle is 1500 rpm to prevent stalls in the cold.

    -Suf Daddy

  13. Answer to my own question?

"Get the Avon 45, 46's.......you wont be disappointed. Great wet and dry grip( all the way to the edges). I'm on my first set but look to be doin great on mileage." from the tire thread..................

    -Suf Daddy

  14. Oil & everythings thickens in the cold.

20 degrees? You CHAMP! its only ~30 here, was 50 today.

I see ice on the road now.

    3 miles 'round the block'

Front felt flatspotted due to "sitting" for a month or so (basement).

Figured the pulse was the chain slack after crusing around at 25 MPH for twenty minutes.

Cold air is dense so you get better proformance in the cold. (Engine output)

I need a new battery mine goes click click click.

    -Suf Daddy no gloves though.

  15. A newbie says:

" Can someone explain the tire treadwear ratings for bike tires?"

I'm guessing that's the 49/50 combo or 45/50 is what's being referenced here...........................

-Suf Daddy ~3 miles tonight around the block. Some ice on the street and my fronts BALD>>>

  16. ASK FOR THE PARTS after the work is done .

    -Suf Daddy

Wouldn't be the first time some dealer F'd the customer over a simple fix or the like.............................................then again it could be true.................

    -Suf Daddy

Dealer called this morning w/ horrible news. Apparently the bike threw a rod and now needs a new crank.  G.D....... M.F'n.......S.O.B  !!!!!!!!!!!   Said it will be a week or two before it will be done.  Most of the time will be waiting for parts, 7-10 days at the least.   In the mean time I picked up a new battery for my Aprilia 650. I guess that will have to hold me over for a while.

                                                              Keep ya'll posted
