  1. I've ridden a couple ZX14's: one with flies out, one stock. With flies out it was insanely fast all the way from the bottom. With flies in the power came on in a big sort of surge. Didn't feel as linear as the XX. You definitely sit "on" the ZX vs "in" the XX in comparison. Reach to bars felt very similar as did peg position in stock form. I liked the ZX. I love the XX.
  2. Bought a Campbell Hausfeld that you plug in. Noisy but works well. Much better than the bike pump.
  3. Thought that was your XX on CL. I can vouch that I've only seen Will go about 155 on that bike. And it was an effortless downhill. I haven't seen it in years but I remember it being a schweet looking Ti XX. I'm also looking at a metric cruiser too for occasional weekend smell the roses riding....if my lower back will tolerate it. It hated the V-strom...the XX never gives me grief and remains the ultimate backroad commuter for me.
  4. LOL...yeah it does give you a good workout. But I think the Craftsman is the ticket. Or a similar Black and Decker one they have at ACE hardware. Thanks.
  5. Not concerned about portablity. Just wondering what guys are using or the best tire pump for the garage? Preferably something that I can plug in. Been using manual bicycle pumps which usually break after a year. Thanks.
  6. Nice Tiger! If I could handle the upright riding position, I'd be interested. But the XX suits me best. You should have no problem selling it though. Someone will be getting a great bike at a great price. And love those bags...looks like they can carry the world!
  7. thanks for replies. Bike is running really smooth as far as I can tell. I just figured I'd wait till 35 or 40K miles. I definitely don't baby it though. I ride it fairly hard....like you're supposed to if that matters.
  8. First off let me point out that I'm not doing this myself nor do I want to learn how. I suck as a mechanic and am happy not to fuck up my bike with the harder stuff. So at 28K mi the same shop/mechanic I've used for 6yrs doing the following to my '98 XX: flush fluids new brake pads front/rear new fork oil (been 3.5 yrs) check air filter. check CCT-install APE possibly Bike is running great. So wondering if I need to add the hefty expense of valve clearance check? I know it's good insurance but isn't it very rare for Bird's to need adjustment? I don't think my bike has ever had a valve clearance check either. Thanks for any feedback.
  9. It's the angry fat guy again. Uh oh. What do you weigh now, Tubby? Put 1500 mi on it in 5 months.......in other words more than you've put on your 40 bikes combined. That's of course while also riding my XX that I've had for 3.5yrs.
  10. I agree with XXman and Keith. Just leave the extras on there. I too don't have the time/stamina to sell off bits and pieces. Someone will pay extra for the upgrades.
  11. Has a lot of nice extras which may be worth paying extra for a buyer who will appreciate it. But you have high miles (in motorycle terms not XX) and a tip over which does turns some people off. Beats me. I'd say list it $5500/obo and see how far down you're willing to go. If no response in a few weeks, then maybe $5K/obo? Just guesstimating here.
  12. Nice XX. You might want to mention where you're located though.
  13. Great video. Thanks. Maybe I should check what my rear shock preload is set to...
  14. Figured I'd post it here too. My shitty lower back just cannot handle the upright riding position at all anymore. I'm in constant pain after riding the Strom. I need the be leaned/feet behind me. So just riding the 'XX. The Wee's gotta go. Excellent machine. Only 8900 miles, New Continental Road Attacks-front and rear at 7800 miles Always garaged. Never down. 2nd Owner-Clean and clear title Lots of extras- • -Sargent Seat (also have stock seat) • -Ohlins adjustable rear shock • -Ohlins front springs! (sprung for 175-195lb rider w/gear) • -Steel braided brake lines • -mirror extenders • -Heated Grips! • -Throttle Lock • -Madstad screen bracket =zero wind buffeting • -fork brace • -Scorpion Slip-on muffler (sounds great and NOT loud)-do NOT have stock muffler • -Dual helmet locks • -Expandable Suzuki Tank bag-secured into custom metal plate • -Front fender extender • -Hand Guards $5500 /bo Howard Howielux@gmail.com email me or IM if interested. Thanks.
  15. I found this thread and am in the same boat. I'm about 177lb without gear. Bird has only 28K miles. Had 1.0kg Race Tech springs installed at 15K miles (when I bought bike) w/5WT fork oil. This was almost 3.5 years ago. Stock rear shock. I'm noticing the bike has a pretty rough ride over bumps now and I also can hear my front end "squeak"...? Don't know what that means. I have a couple good suspension shops near me that will do install but I'm thinking adding the gold valve kit to the front end and maybe a Wilbers rear shock sprung for my weight on the rear. Hopefully I'll feel a difference.
  16. Barry,,,put the voltmeter across the terminals when the engine is running. You should read 13-14V. It should increase by about 1 volt if you rev the bike. Ok thanks...will do assuming I'm able to jump start the bike later on tonight.
  17. Will have to do search on here...don't know how to check. Follow the RED wire from the battery... it runs to a rubber mounted block on the left side of the battery box, with a red cap over a fuse. That's the main fuse. There's a starter solenoid next to it. Thanks..saw that and solenoid seemed tighly connected but I'll double check.
  18. Will have to do search on here...don't know how to check.
  19. That's awesome....I hadn't ridden my '98 in 3wks......fired her and up and dead as a doorknob! LOL......but really Hence my thread in this forum.....
  20. Battery just read about 12.93-.97 DCV...not pulled from the bike.....nothing on. Considering I just got a new RR.....guessing it's the stator. Haven't pulled the plastic to look at the RR frying or anything yet. But to do any more of the testing on the flow chart, looks like I'll have to jump start it to get it running.
  21. So I got a new R/R about 2 months ago after my bike needed a charge to start...forgot who makes it but my shop swore by it. Bike started up instantly after the new r/r...no issues. Although I've barely been riding the XX in the last 3 months...maybe 4 months...maybe 500 miles total. Been riding the v-strom mostly. A week ago tried to start the bike and it didn't turn over. Then dead...nothing. No instrument panel lights..nothing. Been that way ever since. Always have the bike on a trickle charger and it still shows green. Battery was with bike when I got it 3 yrs ago...I'm sure it was NOT on a charger then. So can't run the tests that involve revving the bike obviously since I can't start the bike.....unless I get my neighbor to jump it. Should I start with a new battery minimum and then see if it's the stator (never been replaced)?? '98 XX approx 28K miles. Thanks.
  22. Cool, glad you like them.
  23. well went through the chart. Got to the part where I had to disconnect some of the wires from the RR connector. Couldn't figure how the fuck to get them loose......and was on the verge of breaking it. So said fuck it and took it my mechanic. He barely charged me to look at it. After diag, said my aftermarket RR quit. Replaced it with a new one from Rick's I think. Bike charges like a champ now.
  24. I have a pair on mine. Got about 140 miles on the rear-just put it on last week. Front has maybe 1000 miles on it. Initially the turn in felt a bit quicker but I'm getting used to it. I'm not an ultra aggressive rider but did about 80 miles of back road twisties last weekend and the tires felt great. Nice and sticky and smooth. Very confidence inspiring....just as good as the Pilot Road II for me so far....not as sticky as Pilot Powers though. I like em so far.
  25. The CBR1100XX has a chain? I was told it had a belt drive like a Buell when I got it 3 yrs ago. Crud.....you think my chain needs to be cleaned?
