  1. Hi guys, wrecked my bike a few mths back, estimated repair cost will be ard $3k so opting for a streetfighter project.Gonna fix a dual projector headlite for the front. But the main question is is there anyway i can drill the top yoke to fasten a handle clamp for Renthal bars as i wont look gd if i use the clips.I've search under LSL handlebars and its almost similar except i'm drilling the yoke as i can get the handle clamp for a fraction of the price. Will it be strong enough to take the stress steering this beast???

  2. Have an issue w/ my '02 Bird: The FI light will sometimes, randomly flicker (occasionally staying on steadily for up to several minutes). This is accompanied by rough running and lower power. Once, this shut the bike down while idling right after I started it, though it did re-start and got me home.

This is very random - it's occurred riding down the interstate, idling in a parking lot after starting, whenever.

Search turned up lots of info on the test block fix for the wiring harness on '99 & '00 Birds with this issue, but nothing on the newer bikes. Do the '01-'03 bikes have a test block, or are there similar weak points in the wiring harness (I'm thinking of the set of wiring connections under the gas tank on the left side)? Any other things to check out?

Check for any loose connection on the grounding area. Not to forget check the ECM unit whether any frayed pins.

  3. I pulled the vacuum line off the fuel pressure regulator, turned the key on, and drip .. drip .. drip.

It makes sense that this raw fuel running into my intake would cause these problems. Thanks for the advice.

I have it off and I'm looking for a new one. Suggestions?

U dun have to turn it on,if it drips, then ur FPR is busted.

Do take note while removing the FPR,there's a spacer attached to it.Reuse it with the new FPR.

Once fixed, ride away and blast off,u'll be surprise to see the accumulated fuel in ur endcans.

  4. I just got back from my first XX Iron Butt, and it went great, except my '99 ran worse and worse the whole way.

I'm loosing a cylinder or two at low RPMs and I slowly gain them back as the revs increase. I have to give it a ton of throttle so I don't stall it just to take off. It has okay top end, not quite it's normal self. Also, the tips of my stock pipes are turning Black, like it's running too rich or something.

I threw in a ton of injector cleaner and that didn't help.

Here's my guesses, in order of likeliness in my opinion.

    - Plugs

    - Clogged injectors

    - Loom needs the fix (although it's not throwing up the FI light)

    Ideas?

    Fuel pressure regulator????

  5. My bike had its 1st electrical glitches after i've changed the coil, rectifier and battery.Mine a 01 Fi model.2 days ago, during warming up,my neutral starts to intermittently blink during idle, suddenly all lights were up and then dead.Upon inspection, found my magnetic starter assembly which is house the main fuse(30A) got toast really bad.Managed to get spares from the dealer at $48/-.Fixed it and go.

Now my question why is dat so?Is there an overload somewhere?I checked the 2 wires connected to it 1 goes to the starter and the other goes to the battery +ve.

  6. false neutral

    +1

If the clutch doesn't slip while on the gas, it sure as hell ain't slipping when you're decelerating unless you're not letting the clutch lever all the way out.

    ya thats it..false neutral.

    Will it harm my engine????

  7. Hit the track for the 1st time and man, this bird could handle corner very well along with gd tyres-Pirelli Diablo Corsa.Hot weather making the tyres stick to the road with ease......but when trying to drop gears after a long straight,my clutch slipped, making my bike powerless till it reached a certain speed, then it engage.Been a couple of times it happen.Clutch plates recently changed, oil is 15/50w(semi).Mebbe i didn't kick down the gears hard enuff,i dun noe, adrenaline rush upon reaching those corners mebbe setting my balls up my throat. Is there any other contributing factors which lead to this? Oil due???

  8. What your doing should work fine,

    increase low end,

    slightly hurt very top end.

Hmmm...tot of modding the collector and getting rid of the left connector but vehicle inspection here is very strict and of cos wat i'm doing now is illegal but who cares.s long i'm able to fit my 2 ori pipes for vehicle inspection,i'm good.

  9. Does your wiring have the test connectors? Old and new? Analog gauges?

Check the ground connection to the frame on the front of the rear shock mount under the tank. Make sure it is tight and clean as in wire brushed both connector and frame. Maybe even coat in dielectric grease after cleaning. This connector is very important. But maybe not in your case. Also do the knock sensor connector. Any connection that you can get to use DG on. Bet it is wet there. Might do the switches on the bars to cover corrosion there too. Had it before, still do after the wiring change, almost has to be something else....

Wet connectors???Well i see some connectors are wet with oil especially those near the engine bay.Not sure whether its the cause.

Mine is a 2001 Fi digital dash by the way

Wet as in "weather". Corrosion and such, in the switches contacts, and the wire loom connectors. But they should be sealed enough.

Why is there oil? Oily connectors can conduct electricity, the wrong way.

May have to put a new knock sensor.

Hmmm, wet with oil...mebbe i'll clean-em up and see whether thats the cause..til then, wait for the result.Wondering where the oil come from...mystery....

  11. I remember a thread about the knock sensor where someone put a washer under the knock sensor to pull it farther out of the block. I guess it screws in. He did this to isolate a sensor that was too sensitive.

My question is could it really be detecting a knock. Old/bad gas? Fouled plugs?

Joe mentioned that the sensor generates it's own voltage. Could you put a scope on it and look for pulses. If I saw pulses with it disconnected from the harness, then I would look at sensor or real knocking. Never tried it, but I would think it could be done.

1st edit. did a search and found a dead link to knock sensor troubleshooting. Continued to find live link.knock sensor

Second edit. Thread where troubleshooting was discussed. Ron's knock knock thread

I bet Ron knows the answer now. I wish he was still with us to give the answer.

Thnx for the thread/link guys, done everything as above but still the same.

  12. Just to be obvious.

Have you unplugged the ECM and reconnected it and see if it goes away? Sometimes a harness comes loose.

The other option is find someone with an 01 model and see if they'll let you switch out the ECM. If it goes away, you know it's your ECM. If it remains, something else is the cause.

I don't know how many 01 Blackbirds are in Singapore.

I've unplugged the ECM,check the KS but the problem still exist.

If i were to swap the ECM,would there be any issue with the HISS?

If no problem, then i'm willing to spend on a new ECM as i've chaged the main harness.

  13. Hi all, been browsing the forum for quite sometime now and this is my 1st post.

My bike is a 01 Fi model, been having great fun with it til the Fi light came put which reads 25 blinks-knock sensor.

I have the manual and i've recently changed the main harness.I took a look at the loom on my old harness and its clean as a whistle. But my bike's Fi lite will stay on along the journey.Once i hit 3k on the RPM,the Fi lite will appear and will remain ON til the end of the journey. My mech says my ECU a goner..is it true. And yes the performance drop once the Fi appears.

Any kind soul to help me out.....Oh yeah...saying Hi from Singapore.
