  1. Actually, have had them since new, never have rode My bike without them, so it's difficult for me to compare. I had test ridden, at length a used '97 that my dealer had, and found the suspension very compliant, but I don't know if it had been modified also?! I also had ridden a '03 Demo before I bought mine, and the hobby horse effect was very apparent, that's why I bought the Hyperpro's and had them installed before I even took delivery of My '03. BTW - I have raised the forks to 50mm between the yoke and the top of the fork as you had suggested, and, so far, so good! I haven't had a chance to really try it out on the twisties, but on the highway, at least up to about 100mph(160kph) there appears to be no difference from before. The steering did feel a little lighter however, and it seemed a little more nimble, but not at all nervous.
  2. OK - so I looked around somemore on the threads and found the one about "Hyperpro Springs" which discusses all about the measurements of the top of the forks! http://cbr.geckobox.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=18887 Sorry 'bout that, funny that the thread didn't come up when I used the 'Search' though! Anyhow, there is more than enough info to digest on the other thread, and I already have the 'Hyperpro Springs' front and rear also! Thanks anyways!! Good Riding All!!
  3. I don't think she would find that too comfortable in the twisties, something the Choppers don't take a shining to either!! Yes, I got the backrest also, #297 if I remember correctly, like on their website, very nice! It has a slight tendancy to push her forward a bit, but if she is 5'2" that shouldn't be a problem, she should find it quite comfortable. My son's G/F is 5'2" and it fit her like a dream! And it gives her a greater sense of security when you whack the throttle! If you PM me I can send you a pic if you're interested.
  4. The issue with my wife is that she is fairly long legged and with the stock seat her knees tuck in underneath my butt, whereas, with the Corbin, I'm lower so her knees are higher, thereby spreading out her knees on either side of my butt! Great for sex, but not long rides! Shorter legged people have ridden in behind, and have found the Corbin very comfortable, so it's just an issue between myself and my wifes physiques.......and I'm not about to trade either my wife or the XX - too expensive, plus long legs are good in other situations!! You'll know what I mean if you encounter the problem, she'll let you know in short order!!
  5. Thanks Airborne900! That helps, 1 5/8" is @ 41 mm, and by my calculations I have 34 mm to the top edge of the cap, the caps themselves are about 2 mm thick. So, that would mean that my forks are at least 6-7mm too low in the triples. I think my dealer didn't set the right clearance when he put the Progressive Suspension on when it was new. When you changed to the Corbin saddle, did you find you were too upright and is that why you lowered your bars back to stock? I have a G/F & Lady Corbin that I bought when I got my '03 in Nov/03. I like it, but my wife doesn't, says she feels like she's at the OB when she sits on it, she prefers the Stock seat!
  6. Hi Everyone - Sorry it's been a while! Anyways, it's time to get the XX back out on the road, it's been a long winter here. But before I do, I wanted to raise the Bars a la Joe's suggestion's. So I check out the top of the forks and find the circlips jammed into the top of the handlebar bracket.............no joy!! I measure the mm between the top of the forks and the top of the triple clamp and whadda ya know............32 mm. No wonder it's as steady as a rock at high speed and I have to muscle her a bit through the twisties. So I searched the threads and found where it is supposed to be 38.3 mm according to the manual, and that some have increased that to even 39-40 mm. Is that correct? What can I expect when I move them back where they should be? Change in handling turning in for sure, but what about riding position? Should I make that change before I move the bars up on the forks? Any comments appreciated..... Thanxx!!
  7. Now THAT"S really GOOD news!! Thanks, I'll make sure that they check that out also!!
  8. Northman - I sent you a PM - Thanks!!
  9. Thanks for the info, at least we'll know where to start, I'm going to bring it back to the dealer to see if he will give us a break at least on the repair. A tranny teardown, rebuild is beyond our technical skill level!
  10. I was afraid of that, expensive Huh (eh), It only has 44,000km (28k mi) on it and motor is very soild, clean burning, and hauls ass. Ya think tranny work at that low mileage......for a Honda, of course! I know the chain needs changing and the sprockets, which we are going to do soon, end of April when he gets home from University! Thanks, Gary
  11. My son bought a '97 CBR900rr last fall with 28k on the clock. Nice bike, actually one of the reasons I traded my ST1300 for the '03 XX - He let me exercise  it in the fall while he was at University. When low idle below @1200rpm, there almost sounds like a knock, I was told that is normal, as soon as it's at 1500rpm, nothing. Just thought I'd ask those of you in the know! When accelerating moderately to hard, it has slipped out of third occasionally, it catches at first, and then pops out as you twist the throttle! Doesn't seem to happen in any other gear, and has happened to my son and I! Any thoughts? And before anyone suggests it, I know, I know, Change the rider!!
  12. Update on Flasher Info - Apparently the SM-3 SignalMinder will work according to a Kisan tech advisor! After numerous e-mails, he must be an engineer or something, he finally told me that the SM-3 will work with Led's in the signal lights out back and Halogen bulbs in the signal lights in the mirrors. So i'm going to order it this weekend probably, or early next week. I'll let you all know how it goes! Gary
  13. Thanks Bruce - If they can't see you coming with that set up, they shouldn't be behind the wheel....................well that's another subject for another thread............maybe!! I'll check out Signal Dynamics!! Gary
  14. Joe - Did some searching last night and came up with a Tridon EP37 Electronic flasher that will work on a R1. The R1 has the same rating as the 'Bird - The SignalMinder (SM-3) is the same for both bikes. However, I believe a Tridon HD-12 electronic flasher would also work! The HD-12 is easier to find than the EP37. Both are 2 terminal and the HD-12 is good for 10 lamps, and the EP37 is good for 16 lamps. I don't have any idea why he used 16 :???: , I have an HD-12 in my truck for when I pull a trailer - that's 6 lamps and have no problem. The thread for the R-1 installation is http://www.cartestsoftware.com/fz1/tridone...stallation.html Gary
  15. Joe - Confirmed wattage last night - Std 5w/20w Halogen 8w/30w! I wanted to "go all the way" with a Kisan SignalMinder but 'No Joy' they wrote me back that it will work with Std Bulbs! Oh well, I guess I'll have to install an Electronic Flasher like they have for cars. There are others 'out there' who have installed LED's and Halogens, etc....... I wonder what they did? Warchild, with all the farkles you did to the 'Bird, you didn't by chance change the Std Flasher? Gary
  16. Warm yes, I could hold my hand over the lens without it getting too hot, I was in the garage and it was about 60f - I just don't know how HOT they will get when it's 90f - mind you they are made for autos, which have closed enclosures for their turn signals too, so they'll probably be ok. They could double as handwarmers when it's cold out though! I don't see the wattage on the website either, but I believe that std is 5w/15w for running and signal and the Halogen is 8w/25w if my memory serves me correctly. I did a lot of searching around on the web to find out the details. I'll check to see what's written on the bulbs tonite to be sure and will let you know K. In the garage, they looked almost twice as bright as the stock bulb, not just 50% brighter as they advertise. I haven't been able to compare in daylight, but your visibility has got to improve a lot. The 1156 appears to be almost a backup 'Headlight' output! Holy shit that's really strong! I never noticed, because I am putting in LED's back there.....they may have or have access to something a little less bright. It might be worth contacting their Tech Team. In auto applications, 1156's are mainly used for Back up only, and 1157's are for running/signals, so that may be why the 1156 is so bright. I've got the light fetish too, that's why I'm also looking at a Headlight Modulator also, to use when and where I see the necessity. Any thoughts on that? Hope this helps, Gary
  17. RMU - I ordered these from DesignTech - They are Fucking Bright!! The lens (Honda Yellow) got warm - don't know how they'll be in the summer. You'll need an electronic flasher due to the increased load - the standard flashes too quickly. 1156's are also available, but I'm putting LEDs in the rear flasher and taillight.......haven't received them yet! http://www.designtech-intl.com:8080/mercha...catid=12&step=4 Gary
  18. Be sure to check the legislation articles - there are certain pulse rates to adhere to to be legal! Gary
  19. Iceman 40 - Check out this link - yes they are legal in Canada - only for bikes though - there is a link to the legislation. Because it only works on High Beam, you don't have to ride around with it on all the time, just when you feel you need to be seen, like if you think someone is going to pull out in front of you from a side road or you're passing, etc. I wouldn't ride with it on all the time, don't want to attract TOO much attention, especially from the local R.C.M.P. http://www.treestumpmse.bc.ca/page3.html PS - I think I would carry a copy of the legislation with me until the cops realise it's legal!
  20. Welcome to the crowd - I went through the same questions as you back in the fall - I'm a little south of you and east in Quebec City! You getting any sunshine up there Yet? The corbin is great - got mine in Jan - expect 6-8 weeks delivery. If your S.O. is going to do any riding with you get a backrest too. I have only put 280kms on it in the fall - but drove a '97 XX that my dealer let me try in August last year for a day - about 550 km Test Ride. I did have "Hyper Pro" springs installed right away b/c I found the front forks on the new ones a little harsh - and didn't like the hobby horse effect over bumps. They seem really nice. compliant and comfortable with no loss in handling capabilities. You'll need a tank protector - I got one from Mag Knight. I like the fit. I wouldn't mess with anything else until you have a chance to ride it a bit - oh and the corbin will take a while to break in - @2500 kms. The only other thing I'm looking at is a Throttlemeister (For sure) and possibly changing the bars - but that's personal preference - ride it for before you decide! Oh a headlight modulator is also in the near future plans. I have a CDN connection in B.C. if you're interested!! Again, Welcome from another Canuck!
