  1. Yesterday I went on a nice 350 mile ride and noticed that my bike seems to 'waver' back and forth when riding at speed. Nothing too dramatic...almost imperceptible but certainly new. The bars feel like they move about a quarter inch each directing in, what I can only describe as a 'waggling' fashion. I recntly had new tires installed but everything is torqued and in place. The tires are Sportec M1s. Someone suggested my steering head bearings might be the culprit but they were replaced once already. I'm open to checking them. Any thoughts? :?
  2. Yes, I just put the exact part on my '97 and it was a no brainer. You'll have to expand the holes on the R1 reg/rec to fit the mounting holes on your Bird's subframe. Remove the clips from the old plug and slip them directly onto the new part. Follow the image below and you can't go wrong...
  3. I'm in the same boat but figured I'll just remove the clips from the Honda plug and use them to attach the wires to the Yami part. Now I only need to know which wires go where...
  4. Bingo...tire pressure has always been the culprit when mine felt "weird"
  5. This is nothing new...the clutch on my Bird rattles after it starts when cold. This has been going on for years and I've always just assumed it was normal. Once it warms up all is good. Not sure why I'm bring it up today...maybe because that damn Airbus flew off the end of the runway in Toronto and I'm more atuned to mechanical sounds... This is normal right?
  6. I can confirm the bearing were shot. Upond removal of the wheel and rotors, the dust covers seemed fine. Once I pryed those out, the original bearings were a pile of pusstous monkey snot. One broke into pieces as I removed it and both felt like they were full of sand. 8 years old, 32,000 miles and ridden every day rain or shine must take its toll. It's all cleaned up and ready for another 30K
  7. Good to hear. I picked up some AllBalls from a local shop and the OEM dust seals. I'll pull the wheel tonight and see if this fixes it. Thanks all.
  8. The other option is to have an impact wrench on hand. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Disp...temnumber=45252 and no...I don't work for HF. I just like their stuff.
  9. Is it normal to do the rear bearings at the same time as the front even if they aren't making noise? Or is that a waste of time and $?
  10. Awesome! Thanks....there's a harbor store near me as well I found out....I'll be going by there tonight or tomorrow. While you are there I suggest you pick up a couple of things that will come in handy... 22mm socket - six sided and a set of metric hex sockets. They will come in very useful working on any Japanese bike! Hex set - http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Disp...temnumber=35183
  11. The past two days I've heard an irregular squeaking coming from the front wheel. It happens in the morning...when everything is cold. It changes frequency with a change in speed and continues with the clutch in...definately coming from the wheel There is no rubber touching anywhere and dragging or applying the brakes doesn't change it. Amy I losing a bearing? What are my next steps?
  12. Somewhere along the line I saw a thread with a link to an online source for shock oil. I'll be damned if I can find it now. Anyone?
  13. thx for the find! was able to save myself a coupla hundred bucks right there. now lets see how used those rotors actually are. I accept all kinds of payment in favor!
  14. There is a set on eBay right now - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...&category=35601. Not sure what year though...
  15. I'm just about ready to install my shock and springs but wanted to check on the oil weight before proceeding. I know Wilbers specified the 2.5 weight oil but that seems awfully light to me. Can anyone confirm they used 2.5 with the stock valving? Thanks, Peter
  16. Nope, I had no issues installing any of the lines. Thanks Dale. Did you find you made any routing modifications or were you able to pretty much duplicate the stock layout?
  17. Still no response from Dale on this thread. Has anyone talked to him or know if he ran into similar issues during the install? :?:
  18. I'm sure I'm not the only one who will be watching this thread with interest. Keep us posted! :?
  19. Maybe the fact that there has been no reponse from Speigler should be fact enough...but does anyone know what their return policy is?
  20. Got it! Do you have pictures of how I should do that?
  21. Does anyone have a link to a good article or write-up on replacing brake lines? I'm comfortable bleeding brakes but have never completely replaced the lines. What is the process to ensure no air in the system?
  22. OK, I've done gone and ordered a set of Venom SS cans and picked up a K&N air filter. Now for the dumb question. I don't have any experience re-jetting a carb. Where should I start looking for parts, installation advice, etc.
  23. I've been looking at several different exaust options for my '97 Bird. Over the weekend I saw a really nice Remus CF setup but they seem pretty spendy. Anybody have opinions on the Venom CF slip-ons? I've done some searching but can't find much on the Venoms.
