  1. I've decided to switch over to synthetic at 15,000 miles. I will be doing a huge 4000 mile trip on the new oil. Is there anything I need to worry about? What are the chances of any problems or should I do a test run before leaving for the trip?
  2. I accidentially overfilled my overflow tank. It's about an inch above the hot mark when it's cold. Do I need to get it out?
  3. I ran across my old Sport Rider and there was an article about a 210,000 miles CBR900 engine. The XX is essentially a bored out CBR900 I read some time ago. He said he used Castrol GTX car oil every 5000! miles and the filter every other change. The engine is still very strong with no gearbox problems. I just found this interesting with all the oil talk going on.
  4. I heard somewhere it was bad to bump start a fuel injected bike. If this is true how come? Thanks
  5. If you plan on going in any kind of heat and keeping you speed above 90 for days at a time you'll need another rear tire. Mine lasted 4500.
  6. I just checked my r/r wiring harness and it looks great just like the one in that link above. This is very encouraging since I fried my stator (turned it black) in only 12,000 miles.
  7. That's a great write up from bajjer9, He mentioned the 02's and up have a larger better cooling R/R. has anyone with an 02' actually had an R/R go out?
  8. If I were to go ahead and replace the CCT and R/R, It probably would be better to replace with a different, so someone mentioned an X-11 (or anything else) CCT...where and how much are those? Thanks
  9. I hear you on the tires! I wore a D220 down to the wire in 4400 fucking miles.
  10. O.K. so this isn't an official poll but I take some pretty high milage trips (4000+) by myself and recently had a stator go bad nearly stranding me in Death Valley, CA. I'm now very worried about something like that happening again and I'm the type pf person that would rather replace it before it goes bad if at all possible. The XX seems as reliable as anything but it looks like there are several riders having problems with just keeping the battery charging.
  11. The F4 was out at the time so I'm guessing the F3 is the only one that works
  12. When I put a 17 front on my 900RR, I used XX rotors with an F3 wheel and all I needed was a few spacers by the axle. The calipers were free floating if that matters. Hope that helps.
  13. If I let go of the bars when there is engine braking or a rough road, the bars wobble back and fourth sometimes as much as couple of inches. As soon as I touch the bars again, it goes away. My rear wheel alignment is fine(not using the swingarms marks) and my wheel balance and steering head bearings (I think) are O.K. as well. There's 12,000 miles showing. Thanks.
  14. It's the stator. We swapped the 2 and it charged 14.0. The only problem now is where do I get one? My dealer wants $220!
  15. Thanks for the great idea!! I tried my rectifier on my Dad's bike and it works just fine. It must be the stator/alternator, no other choice other than the wiring harness!
  16. The same rectifier works fine on another bike. From what I understand, the stator is the basic part of the alternator. The technical manual tells me the test for this is to check the resistance between the 3 wires that go to the rectifier via the stator which should be between 0 and 1. It checks out at .3 for all three combinations of wires. You also check continuity of the 3 wires to ground and they should show 0 to 1 as well. They also checked out at .3. I think the only thing that goes wrong with the stator is a short, or an open, which these 2 tests show should be ok. The recitifier I borrowed off my Dad's 99 works perfectly and charges at 15 volts.
  17. If the alternator charging coils are O.K, doesn't that mean it's not the alternator?
  18. O.K. so, my bike is only charging the battery 12.1-12.3. First I replaced the battery. Then did the battery current leak test. It showed less than 2 mA draw which is under specs. Then I checked the alternator charging coil, which was within specs at .3. Warmed it up, reved to 5000RPM and voltge was still 12.1-12.3. even with a DIFFERENT rectifier off a 99' which connected up just fine (even though the part number is different), still no charge. I've also checked all the fuses, no leaks. W T F
  19. I'm positive it's the rectifier and I did some searching but I just need to know where to get one an what kind. I've got 12,000 miles, a new battery, a good stator and the 3p connector showed 3 olhms, so the alternator's good. This damn thing almost stranding me in Death Valley 3! fucking days ago! Thanks
