  1. That seems about right, where would it bolt up tho?
  2. I just notices a metal wire loom clup thingy that came unattached on my 97 bird that looks like it goes to a bolt on the clutch slave cylinder. Can someone tell me where it goes or throw a pic up? No it is not the thing that holds the idle adjust in place, this is for the wire harness piece. Thank you Kinley
  3. Wipes of easily and is pretty glossy..........I have found that is lasts for at least 18 hours and that is a pretty hectic day. Smart ass!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. Went with the blue loctite as recommended. They got a new "lipstick" tube out that works slicker'n shit, less mess.

  6. Ok, read the brake pad replacement advice and I am good to go. Except what if I replaced mah front tire and in doing so I dropped the old pads out so I could clear the rotor; THEN decided to replace the worn pads? Problem is how do I now get the caliper pistons pushed in far enough to get the new HH's inserted without fugging up the rotor? Thought maybe I could try slipping the old pads back in and then going forward but may run into the same problem with lack of clearance. Caveat is I do NOT want to remove the calipers or wheel again. Can it be done Obi Wan? :?: Also what is this "stock" shim that I have heard reference to? Is this the spring clip dealio on top of the pads or something else cause I dont have that? As always, thank you. Kinley
  7. I know the manual says use new bolts for the caliper mounting bolts, well I am going to use Loctite instead. Opinions on what I should use; the blue or the super duper red? thank you Kinley
  8. I am about to replace the lifter set (CCT) on my 97 'bird in the next few days. I have the new lifter and gasket arriving tomorrow. One thing I am unclear on tho in my forum reading and in the service manual, do I need to apply any type of sealant to the new gasket when installing it? Thank you Kinley
  9. Thank you all for the responses. While keeping the coffers full is an appealing idea, I think I am going to go with the magority and start fresh in this instance. New sprockets and chain all the way around. Might be able to pinch down the road but a good foundation is prolly the best way to start. To answer your question, Joe, other than the wear indicator, the chain is nice and shiney, no flat/tight spots, o rings look good (from what I can see) hence my "looks good" statement. But then again up until now I didnt know you had to change sprockets out with the chain Thank you all again Kinley
  10. I have read through the forum and see the two schools of though on chain replacement. On my "new" 97 'Bird I had new shoes put on this weekend. It was pointed out to me that the rear sprocket is "shark finned" and thereby toasted. This along with the chain was replaced by the previous owner 7-8K miles ago. I plan on going back to a steel 45T rear and replacing the front with an OEM unit. Bike has 39K on it with the front never having been replaced. My question is, Do I need to shell out the additional cash for the chain or can I forego a new one this time around? Chain looks good and still plenty of life in it according to the wear indicator on the swingarm. I will replace if recommended but could use the cash other places. Need solid advice please. Thank you Kinley
  11. S'ok I think I may have the answer. Are you using part number 06140-MAT-315, perchance? May post more later, working with someone atm. Kinley
  12. So then 'splain the difference, lucy between the green dot and the X-11 tensioner??????? I am confused Kinley
  13. Rales--Jredd has a buy going on for a block off kit for the Pair valves, got mine yesterday and it is a nice kit. New to the bird but I dont see how the reeds would be broken especially at 15k miles. I am also looking for the X-11 CCT. Try doing a forum search on "X-11 tensioner" you will get about 18 hits with a lot of good info. One has a url for an overseas link to purchase the item (about $90 US) plus other info on how to possibly obtain one. I called my locale stealer ship today for part number of the X-11 CCT and it is not a listed part :x Kinley
  14. I was wondering what that little hole was for!!!!! I will check that option thanks again!! Kinley
  15. Ah so no sticky tape just electrical tape, eh? I will give it a try. Thank you.
  16. Before I go wrenchin on the left contol pod on the 'bird I thought I would throw this out there. It is loose enough that when you pull the choke lever or push on the turn signal switch it will begin to rotate on the handlebar. I have snugged up the screws under the pod but dont want to crack the enclosure (had this happen on my V45 once). Wondering if ya'all have any suggestions? I was thinking of taking the pod off and putting 3m double sided tape in the mounting groove then reinstalling????? Thoughts???? Thank you. Kinley
