  1. My stator packed it in about a month ago. I had the same problem as you. No stators or RR to be found anywhere in Canada. My bike was a 99 with 70,000 kms. I was tired of waiting and replaced it with a stator out of wrecked cbr 600 that had 1800kms on it. Oh by the way, Electrex specs the same stator for the CBR600 and blackbird. This is bullshit, because the cbr600 stator is narrower. However it fits perfectly into the alternator case and all I had to do was use shorter bolts. It most likely does not have the same output as the blackbird stator. However, it has worked well and believe me I check the output a hell of a lot more than used to. I am alittle bit paranoid now and I also have a used RR out of a 03 VFR sitting on my workbench in case the RR has to be replaced. In fact I suspected the RR was the culprit until I took the case off and saw the chared wires on the back of the stator.
  2. At what mileage did your stator go? I checked the resistance on the stator and all three yellow wires were within spec. Voltage output at the battery was around 11.6 v no matter what the RPM. I guess this was just the battery voltage, yes it was low. It seemed that no charge was coming from the RR. I have 72,000 km on my bike and I am seriously wondering if I shouldn't also replace the stator. It would be a real pain to have it go and take out a new RR.
  3. Thanks for replying so quickly. The 1999 part number is 31600-mat-e01. The 2001 - 2002 part number is 31600-mat-d51. Does anyone know if this is a superior part and if the connectors are the same as the 99 RR? Has anyone retrofited their 99 with a 2002 part?
  4. Help Does anyone know where I can get a Regulator Rectifier pretty quick. Both the honda and yamaha parts are backordered here in Canada for at least 2 weeks, maybe more. No way I cannot ride for the next few weeks, I will lose my sanity. 99xx
  5. The best front tire that I have found that wears evenly and resists cupping is the Michelin Pilot Road. They may not be sticky enough for the track but they are plenty sticky enough for the road. Ive used them 3 times and I get about 6 - 7 thousand miles. I' ve also run them with an 010 and 020 and they worked well.
  6. Anybody have slip-ons, or full system for that matter, and beetle bags? Some of the slip ons I am looking at are: Laser ovals or hot cams- looking at the literature I don't think the hot cams will fit. Scorpions Micron WRP slip-ons - I can't find much info on these at all.
  7. I suspected that my regulator/rectifier my be the culprit after reading posts about this problem occuring around this mileage. When you refer to the left bar switch housing are you talking about the housing mounted to the handlebar clip-ons, clutch side? I replaced the originals with vfr clip ons a few months back and I have been loosening and moving them around a bit. Also I transport my bike on a trailer a fair amount and the canyon dancers that I use to strap the bike down may be resting against the housing. I didn't even think of this possibility. Thanks for pointing it out.
  8. This is my first post ; however, I have been lurking here for the past couple of weeks and I have found this site very informative and useful. I have a 99 bluebird that just turned over 50,000 km, most of which was done in the past 2 years. Now I have a little problem that I only discovered this weekend while leaning on the horn to alert a deer, (a fair ways own the road) that I was coming. The engine was spinning at about 6000 rpm and when I hit the horn the engine missed for split second as if the power was cut. I was very curious so for the rest of the day I tooted the horn at different rpms and under different loads. It didn't seem to miss at lower rpms, but at the higher rpms it would always miss. The miss would only occur at the initial split second after I blasted the horn but would disappear if I held the horn open. I have also noticed that lately the bike has not been running as smoothly at certain rpms. However, I contribute this to the fact that I have just installed a new power commander and I haven't quite found the right settings yet. I don't think that the 2 are related. Does anyone have any ideas?
