  1. It will save you just about 3 amps. Not enough to offset heated clothing or grips but any little bit helps.
  2. Did you try re-torquing it? +1 on the HID. One of my favorite upgrades

    Get High

Did a 600 mile loop on sunday. Rode between 1400 and 8900 feet above sea level on my carb's 98. Bike was jetted at sea level. Felt the roll-ons get a little weak above 8000ft.
  4. Pilot Roads and Avon 45/46s seem to be the tire of choice for the sport-touring/LD set. Pilot Race seems to be the preferred tire for the track set. FWIW
  5. Love mine, makes the throttle much more crisper and more responsive but I get pinging on any gas under 89 octane, regardless of temp. or alt..
  6. +1 I never go under 5k in the twisties - power is never a problem
  7. Nope... Too many heat cycles, tires out lived their usefulness.
  8. How old is the battery? If it's older than 2 years I'd replace IMHO. Also, pull the connector off the regulator and inspect it for melting, charring etc...
  9. I've been using water wetter for a few years now and had good results. However, with all the dirt biking in the desert lately I was turned onto Engine Ice - Amazing Stuff!!! My 450 was always boiling over even with water wetter and an upgraded Boyesen water pump. I put Engine Ice in the 450 and viola!!! No more boiling over. Even with long idle times. The stuff is pricey, about $20 a gallon but I might try it in the XX after the next coolant flush. Engine Ice
  10. I'm pretty sure Crazy Glue (Cyanoacrylate Glue) will eat the foam in your helmet. Try silicone or "Zap-A-Doo" glue available at any hobby shop.

    SICK BIRD

+1 on the petcock plumbing. There is a "nipple" on the petcock under the tank that isn't actually a nipple, if you hook your vacum line up to it bikey no worky. It's a very common mistake. Do a search in Garage section. There is a recent thread explaining it with pics and diagrams.
  12. +1 It's suprisingly easy to split the head of the master link rivet with the chain tool. ... Go easy.
  13. It's only a 20watt strobe pack. It should only draw 1.6amps vs. a standard 55watt low beam which draws 4.6amps. I know some of the large 8 bulb strobe packs can draw over 40 amps this setup would work fine on a bike.
  14. Get yourself some real strobes.... They'll get out of your way! Real Po-Po Strobes $139.99
  15. I hear that the left mirror falls off after 100k on the older Blackbirds.
  16. +1 Just keep tappin'. It's easier and safer for the hub to alternate from side to side with the punch.

    Hugger question

I've got about a 1/4" clearance on the sides and top. My CF hugger was a little tweaked when it showed up, I used a heat gun on it after installing it to even everything out. It's CF and epoxy so it takes to heat fairly well.
  18. But ya didn't mention if they used a gas meter. If you are messing with the fuel/air mixture, a dyno with a GAS METER is the most efficient way to sort it all out. You'd be suprised how many dyno shops don't use them...or have them and don't know how to use them.
  19. +1 Find a reputable dyno shop in your area that uses a gas meter and start over.
  20. I got tired of mini-stalks and "flush-mounts" that stuck out a half an inch so drilled out a set of 1.1" holes in my tail cowl and installed these w/ the amber lenses.... With the LED tail light from the UFO group buy it looks pretty clean.
  21. Double check the fuel tank plumbing. Betcha you have a vent line blocked off somewhere
  22. Sounds like a balance problem. I'd also inspect the rotors, they may have damaged a rotor while they were installing the tires. Also check the bearings.
  23. No problems so far :knock_wood_icon: I've checked several times since reading these threads....no leaks.
