  5. I think harbor freight tools are "bargain bin" type tools...you know the stuf you get at winn dixie or kroger...keep in mind I am refering to hand tools like sockets, wrenches, ratchets etc. I have used craftsman tools most of my life and I find them as good or better than snapon at a reasonable price
  6. yea mine did that once...removed the switch and blew it out with compressed air...small squirt of graphite and its been fine ever since
  7. or when you lowside...two times...they dont break off...I know someone who knows first hand...

  10. if the bar is offset toward the front from the center axis of the mount its stock...if the bar is lines up with the center axis of the mount its likely a VFR bar...post a pic to be sure
  11. if you have continuity from ANY yellow to ground your stator is toast...I just replaced mine with 2 legs grounded out...fired 2 R/R and 4 headlights before i figured it out
  12. I have a set but havent installed yet...waiting to get my truck running before I tackle that and many other mods...quality looks quite good and pretty straightforward operation/installation
  13. identicle post times!!! you must be faster than me....
  14. I got mine from john(jaws) http://www.jaws-motorcycles.co.uk/
  15. No i mean i tried a 99 XX regulator when i purchased the 99 XX stator thinking it would be good to help regulate the extra juice. It didnt work well at all, something like 18v, I thought maybe it had something to do with the black wire...at least all it did was pop the headlights...as for the R1 regulator I am BACK to using it and both previous units put out the 13.9v and thats all ya need
  16. I was having issues with the stock bars so I purchased VFR bars and that helped a bit. I then installed 6mm shim on the rear and handling was noticeably better. I then dropped the front end of the bike 4mm and the difference was tremendous both in handling as well as in comfort, so much so that I dropped the bars back to stock height with no dis-comfort at all...hell I was even considering putting the stock bars back on too
  17. You won't have the problem with the '97. With the '99 (and I think '00 and up) Honda wired 2 hot wires to the reg and 2 ground wires. If you look at the schematic, they join in the wiring harness so it must have something to do with the design of the Honda r/r. Again, just plug the wires according to the picture in this thread, you'll be fine. Mike how did you connect the black wire? I recently tried to use a 99 RR on my 97 but it didnt work so i thought it might be because the black wire wasnt connected to something
  18. 45 bucks from university motors...see the vendor review section for the link and avoid Ron Ayers like the plague...Oh an the R1 regulator wouldnt work on 99 and above without cutting the harnes... On a related note didnt Honda switch back to the single connector in 03 or something like that?
  19. DOH!! How did this get here?!?! Move along, nothing to see here..uumm Admin please move this to garage...
  20. So I am interested in real world experiences with plugging a motorcycle tire... Katrina not only brought with it death and destruction but a slew of construction crews with holes in their bags. I picked up a drywal screw in my brand new road pilot. I had to plug it because I cant afford another new one right now. I plugges a hole on my 82 nighthawk way back when and never had an issue. I also spoke with a couple local guys that also had no issues. Obviously I wont be going 180 with it in there but I was just curious how others have fared...
  21. be sure to check the voltage at 5k rpm...i had put a 99 on mine and everything seemed to work until i hit 5k then headlights popped...turned out it was pumping about 17volts
  22. My first one lasted 2 years. I am on my third because I didnt know how to thoroughly check the stator, it had continuity but ultimately had 2 legs shorted to ground...I kick myself cuz I should have known better but yea mine puts out 13.9 as well, which is totally fine by me
  23. I just installed a new 99 on my 97...the only visible difference is the connector...Sorry I dont have any pics...I think my terminals were l_l where as the 99 was side by side lll or something along those lines
  24. Well I had plenty of tread on the dunlop front when I bought mine early in 03 and it acted the same way...It dissapeared completely when I put road pilots on...mine is a 97 by the way
