  1. I bought a set of the "CBR" grips on E Bay....love them.
  2. Mike, I called them and was quoted about $540 incl tax for the tires installed, which is a tad better than my dealer even including the tankful of gas. I'll phone a few more places. I'll get you to look at my chain this weekend. I'm sure It'll last the season. If so, I'll leave it for later. see you Sunday marty I bring All of my tires etc in from the US. With shipping etc, I pay 220CAD for a set of tires
  3. My 01 has a knock in the lower end, we tracked it down to the clutch, the knocking seems to be from the free play in the clutch basket and plates. Nothing worn out, everything seems to be to spec.....just gonna keep driving her.
  4. I run a Yoshimura R3 4-2-1 on my 01......bought it on ebay for 520$ runs louder than my stock pipes...., fits like a glove, no problem with oil filter, weights about 1/2 as much as my stock set up did and can still use my center stand. Go with a full system, it's well worth it...how ever if you go the slip on route, get the larger oval pipe. I saw a bird this summer with small oval slip on's and I thought it looked like crap.

    GPS device

The trick with any Garmin product it to make sure that you are running the latest software(free to down load from any Garmin site). My GPSV was ok until I installed the latest update....then it was WAY better. Your right though, the unit is only as good as the software, my new 2730 is pretty wild but still, you need to watch where it wants to take you. But enough about the navigation, what I really like is the MP3 player and satelite radio, sure makes those long trips fly by.

    Rear brake

Remove rear brake peddle and place in dumpster.
  7. Read an artical a couple of months ago. If I remember correctly, it said something about a cold start senser that opened small bleed valves in each throttle body to cause the engine to "idle up" when under a certain temp. Sorry I can't be more specific, but it sounds to me like this may be a likley suspect.

    GPS device

I have had 3 GPS's in the last 8 years. The one that you may want to look at is a "Garmin V ". I used one of these units for 3 years and found it to work very well on the bike or in the truck. You can probably pick up a used one for under 200$. The nice thing about this model, is it is completly portable, run's on internal batt or bike batt and water doesn't bother it. I like the Garmin's as I think they have the best software.
  9. Thats not a bad idea, they want 325$ Cad to do it in Calgary....then if I sold you guys maps for say 50$ a pop.......

    Alberta Birds

I have been up the the knife on quite a few occasions, I know all the guys out at Buffalo Airways as well as Adler Air. Nice town you have there, sort of a mix between Canada east coast and the mountains. I could do with out the ride up there though....

    Alberta Birds

Have been watching this board for a long time. Best f@*%g place to get reliable info etc. There are some very knowledgable folks on this site, the wisdom is appreciated. Anyways, thought I should get a little more involved... SO.. Hello to everyone. RED 01XX - Red Deer , Alberta,Canada
  12. Just bought and installed new PCIIIusb on my 01XX. Question.... there is damn little in the way of maps for this new PC as of yet. Has anyone had any luck converting a PCII map over to the PCIII. I have tried, and failed. The new PC has the bird running alot faster than stock, (love the accelerator pump software) but would like the proper mapping to go with my set up Yoshimura R3 4-2-1 with K&N filter. Right now I using a map for dual slip on's - with or with out a K&n. Any sugestions?
  13. How about the keyway on the out put shaft? If nothing else, pull your clutch cover (drain oil first) then try rotating the clutch basket by hand(with bike in gear) there shouldn't be any play between the basket and output shaft. If there is....you may have a problem with your key and /or keyway. Just helped a bro with a yamaha 600 that had the same symptoms as yours....just my 2 cents (CAD) worth.
  14. This is the tool I use....should have bought it 10 years ago :icon_wall: works like a charm. Just make damn sure that when your compressing the rivits on final instalation, that you don't have the push pin sticking to far out of the tool body as the tip will break everytime ... If you get the tool, you'll see what I mean.
  15. Improper chain adjustment.... Some folks adjust them with no weight on the bike, then as a rider and lugage etc is added, the chain runs WAY to tight.....just a thought
  16. Change it every 10 thousand miles. Fork oil breaks down over time and does not give the same dampening effect , more so in the hotter climates.
  17. Have a 2001, had to remove ignition key with pliers yesterday. After close inspection I noticed that the key had a slight bend....straightened that out, now key turns in Ing no probs.
  18. Buddy of mine just bought a set from http://www.targa-acc.com so far so good.
