  1. I've asked that question many times. Unfortunately, everyone I ask gives me a different answer. One of the things I've kind of discovered though is the tire says "max pressure at max load" So that means if your vehicle is fully loaded, you increase the PSI. That's what I do with my truck. Otherwise, my PSI is set somewhere between the door jam and max tire pressure. If anyone else has an answer, I'd love to hear it.

  2. Right! On the highway or while I'm moving, the bike is perfect...as many of you are encountering, when we're in stop and go traffic, it's an issue. With my bike though, I don't think I should see the upper quarter of the temp gauge until mid summer. Right now, it's only 47 degrees out and on the first stop light, I'm almost into the red zone on the temp gauge. It might just be a faulty sensor...since the bike has never over heated AND since the temp gauge is 'normal' when I'm moving, I don't think it's the radiator...yes some of my fins are bent and I've spent many hours straightening as many as I could...any other ideas?

  3. Okay, now I need an explanation as to how it all works. My thought was that the thermostat would stay closed until the engine got to operating temps, then it would open, allowing the coolant/antifreeze to circulate through the system, thus keeping it at a constant 'ideal' temp. - not too hot, not too cold.

    By me removing the thermostat, the coolant would flow through immediately....keeping the engine temp cooler, earlier.

    If I'm wrong, please let me know. I'm fairly new to DIY. I just didn't want to spend another $1300 to my shop's service department and have them not fix the problem again.

  4. Took out the thermostat to see if it would run a little cooler this season...the bike is a 99 and I have had heat issues since the beginning...nothing serious...just want it to run a little cooler. I tried that thread, but after the day I had, I didn't have the patience to sift through it.

  5. Okay guys, what started off as a quick 20 min. oil change has turned into a bbbbbbiiiiigggg mess. Instead of just an oil change, I also did a coolant flush and refill AND change my air filter AND took out my thermostat. That's where the problem is...I over torqued a bolt in the thermostat housing cover and it's fucked...I've tried drilling it out and it's not moving...SO, I need to find the part numbers for the thermostat housing and cover please....as well as if there is a gasket between the housing and cover. I know there is a gasket between the housing and engine, so if you could please get me the part number for the gasket as well, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

  6. underneath my bike in the garage. There's a foot of snow on the ground and won't be riding any time soon. My question is: What should I be worried about? I figure the 50/50 water/antifreeze mixture had too much water in it. My hope is that the solution just came out the overflow tank and didn't rupture any of the lines. In the spring, what should I be looking for? Do I do anything now? Any help would be appreciated.

  7. If you were in Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada today I'd tell you the answer was easy...the temperature. It's -40 degrees Celsius today. For you Americans that's -40 Fahrenheit as well. The only number on the 2 scales that are the same! No riding today!

  8. Someone from the board PM'd me asking how the SSR2's sounded. I figured I would share with the rest of you just in case you were interested.

    Here are the soundclips from their website. The actual sound on the XX is a little deeper. I've included the soundclip for the S4 pipe. It's not as deep as that one. As far as loudness, yes! louder than stock, but not so loud as to wake the neighbours once the bike is warmed up. When I first start the bike, I feel it is pretty loud for the neighbourhood I live in, but after a couple of minutes it's good. I also ride in going about 10 km/h and in 2nd gear to keep the rpm's low.

  9. I did the same a couple of bikes ago. Had a flat and just happened to have a can of tire inflate/sealer. I used it and went directly to the dealer and he couldn't find the hole, the sealer plugged it up. Rode around for 2 more seasons on the tire, with no problems. Having said that, I was nervous when I went on my high speed runs. Just to be safe, I would replace the tire, that way you know it's safe.

  10. I'm glad this topic came up. I replaced my old CCT this spring, I don't think it needed it, but the mileage suggested that maybe I should (as preventative maintenance). I put in an OEM CCT and wouldn't you know it, I hear more noise at 4K rpm now, than before? Any suggestions?

  11. Sorry, should of been more precise. I just removed for screws/bolts from the fairing, two from the top and two from the bottom. Then I took a block of wood to prop the fairing away from the CCT and I had enough room to work.

  12. That happened on my wife's Chevy Blazer, she just kept driving for weeks, thinking it was a normal sound. I replaced the rotor no problem. I suppose it depends on set up on the Ford, but it wasn't a big deal. Just remove and replace.
