  5. I only use the clutch for takeoffs, 1st-2nd shift, and downshifting. Clicks in like butter upshifting 2nd thru 6th. So who needs it?
  6. I am pretty sure the M-108 is the filter for a Mazda RX-8 available at any Autozone.
  7. I have used this filter on my last oil change with Mobil 1 15-50 after 2500 miles the oil still has the color of honey. I have read alot about filters, from what I understand this is the best filter on the market.
  8. I have heard Galfer green pads are excellent in the rain, having nearly linear power in the rain, easy on rotors, and shorter life than the black ones i use. I have only gotten caught a serious rain one time and had no problems as you describe with the black ones. The black ones are only slightly better than stockers.
  9. Micron 4-1 PCII no idea what the map is, anyone have a map and a cord to interface the two? If i had to choose i would like a map wiyh the most midrange 4-8K . Thanks!! ] Under 150 ( grunt!)

    FI light

last Sunday I was late for work and recided to ride the bike. After about 5 miles of speeds between 130 and 150 my FI light came on. I turned the ignition of and right back on while riding and it went off. In next long straight stretch i wound it up again to about 160 and held it there for about 3 miles and the FI light came on again. It has never come on before, but i have never ran it that hard. any ideas?? Steve
  12. Will the bird actually pull to the redline in 6th with a 18T front sproket??? I know for a fact it wil with the stock gear. Will the bird pull till the rev limiter in 6th with stock gearing?
  13. First off, besides oil and filter, I have never worked on a motorcycle before. My bird has 14.5K. Plugs, air filter, brakes, chain, and tires are due. I cant even mention the $ quote the local dealer gave me without cursing outlloud ($750+). It is time for a little DIY!!!!! Search the board for info all winter. I changed oil & filter, plugs, air filter, brakes and clutch fluid in just over 3 hours today. Tires and chain will have to be done at the shop $120 LABOR ONLY. The dealer is still a rip any way you look at it, but thanks to you guys he got a lot less of my hard earned money!! After the tires and chain, It should ride and run like a new one all summer long. DANM IM GLAD RIDING SEASON IS FINALLY HERE!!!!! Thanks to all !!!!!!!!
  14. Bought new dial guage today, just checked them cold. 25psi in both.
  15. 6.2K on the Avon 45/46's and very pleased with mileage. I change both tires at the beginning of the riding seaeon every year. Most people seem to get 2 rears out of one front with this combo. New rubber on front and back at the same time gives me better confidence/cheap insurance against a crash due to the front skidding. The rear tire is about a tank full of gas from the wear bars in the center. the front has plenty of tread but is lumpy to the touch. They were installed by the local Honda dealer, drive in, pay $92, drive out. 5K of hard riding with excellent straight line traction and twitsies grip I had never checked the air pressure untill one day in the XX forum reading a thread about tire pressures. it had 14# in the front 16# in the OMG this was way off from what most people run. Decided to try 40# in both, rode for 2 miles and was scared to death felt like i was about to lowside in every turn. It usually takes 6-8 miles of easy riding before the front tire feels good and sticky, but i couldn't ride another inch so I pull over and drop both to 35#, better but still felt uneasy. Dropped them both to 30# and felt OK not great but OK. the past 1.2K in 1st and 2nd gear the rear will often spin instead of wheelie, and the front seems to want to slide a bit in the twisties. Since i change both tires at the same can i run a softer tire in the front than the rear? Has anyone tried the SP sport/46 combo? Would there be any drawback/benefit in handling. Would the rear outlast the front? I am also considering to try the Michelin pilot road combo. Anyone that has used both the 45/46's and Michelin pilot road willing to give me a comparison would be great. Anyone running the Pilot sport front/ pilot road rear? Thanks

Just ordered a DID 530ZVM 110 link $135 shipped from: http://www.accwhse.com/did.htm#Chains was the best price I found. Steve
  17. The smell is like no other on the road. They slow down to 45 mph drop to 3rd gear hit the rev limiter and dump the clutch, It is the only time i smell it. several of them are on there 3rd set of clutches in <10K. btw they are R6's F3's F4's RR's ZX6's' all 600s. that i smell it coming from. The 954, 929. 1000 gsxr bikes dont smell because they usually dont have to use the clutch. I am always, ALWAYS in the very back of the pack.

    Galfer pads

My bike is a 99 and now has 13K orig pads, figured it was time to replace. pulled them tonight and the fronts are 1/4"-3/8" deep and all 4 pads have perfectly even wear. Even with 13K they are twice as thick as the new Galfer balck pads i bought for the front, and about the same thickness as the new Galfer pads for the rear. I was reading another thread about brakes (EBC HH i think) and it stated that all three sets of pads were the same. The Galfer is different for the front FD205G1054 and the rear FD207G1054, they look the same but the set from the rear has a much thicker pad. Do i have the correct parts for the bird? Could you use the thicker FD207 on the front? Steve
  19. Damn couldnt get 87 at this pump  Is this still considered gasoline? What would fuel containing lead do to the bird? So, if there isnt any difference between the grades of gas what can you do as far as a fuel or fuel additive to keep the fuel injectors valves, combustion chamber clean. I still havent gotten many suggestions for a FI cleaner. Steve
  20. I ride with several guys thet like to ride 5 mile long wheelies. when two or three of them pop the clutch at the same time there is an very distinct sweet smell of the clutch burning. Steve
  21. I have read the old posts about octane and didn't mean to stir that up. I was really wondering about the pop from the airbox, it has never happened before on any bike i have owned. Running 93 I get a very consistent 170 miles on the fuel light. 5Gal 34MPG. On the 89 I got the same mileage and besides the two pops the bike ran amazing like it always does. Not sure about the air cleaner, it has Micron 4-1 and a PCII with god knows what kind of map. I would apreciate any kind of help and or links to on how to map the PCII. I could easily run a cable from my PC out the window to the bike, but i have no idea about the cable type, and the software i need. I got the bike in May and have done nothing but tires, oil and gas. I wanted to wait untill the winter months to do the other things i need to do (because I hate to give up riding time). After the pop from the intake and exhaust in the same day I decided it was time for a tune up. Changing the plugs(CR9EHIX-9), air filter(OEM) and CCT(OEM) this weekend all for the first time, and thanks to all for the DIY threads. Thought about FI cleaner and was curious to see if anybody even uses it. Thanks Steve
  22. I recently was reading posts about how it was a waste to buy 93 octane gas, so i decided to put 89 in the bird for the first time saved a whopping 52 cents. after about 100 miles on the tank of gas i heard the first ever pop from the exhaust during downshifting/engine braking ( i was told FI bikes dont backfire). later that day during a downshift with a small blip of the throttle there was a semi loud poof from the airbox i could actually feel it in my legs, almost felt like the gas tank swelled between my legs. Any ideas what is going on/similar experiences. also would like some input on what kind of FI cleaner to use or if it is even needed. '99 with 12k. Steve
  23. I was talking to a guy last night about the bird, he tells me there is an aftermarket cooling fan blade that has a different pitch and cools the bike better. It was 58 deg last night and OMG the bird was running cool as ever, but i can still remember a coulpe weks ago when it was 92 stuck in traffic and the needle creeping to the top of the H. Any input? Steve
