  1. I posted here about the 99 BBXX with 3700 original miles I bought earlier this week for $2900, and the electrical issues as well. I have to say, the advice I got on this forum was great and even though my understanding of "all things electrical" is miniscule at best, I wasn't flamed or lampooned. The best part was I pm'd a forum member (mikesail) and he came over, twice, and spent three hours here today fixing the issue while educating me on "all things electrical". For anyone interested, Mike found a broken stator wire (inside the cover, long story) and soldered that puppy up and now the bike runs great! Bottom line, great Forum, Great Members! Thanks. Can't wait for a group Socal ride! Keith

    600 dollar bird

I thought I got a deal. Paid $2900 for a 99 with 3700 miles on it last weekend.
  3. mikesail came over and I think we have the fan problem diagnosed. now the dim dashlights are another story.
  4. I'm in tustin, ca. I just found mikesail here in local and contacted him. He said he can help. I will check out the "loom".
  5. The fan fuse blew "again"? I have another post going about the dashlights being dim, and now I'm wondering if they're related. I wish I knew more about electrical??? The bike fires right up and I rode it about two hours yesterday. Anyway tires, I'm roasting the rear tire exiting corners on public roadways at intersections, very entertaining but a little nerve racking too (ah right)! The tires have "got to go"! May 16th Cycle Gear will have a set of Pirelli Diablos for $189. Yes, both front & rear for that price. Gotta keep the shiny side up for that long. can't wait to dial in the handling (shim the shock, front springs and fork oil change). I must say, what a great forum. Seems like everyone really is on top of things without rude flaming going on. Very helpful guys! been on other forums and ask questions and they treat you like your an idiot. I may not be good at diagnosing electrical but I have mad skills in other areas.
  6. I rode it for about two hours yesterday. It starts right up when thumbing the button. The fuse for the fan blew "again". Wish I understood electricity a little better.
  7. Okay, I picked up this 99 BBXX with only 3700 miles for $3K. great Buy, I'm stoked!!! Even has the original tires which need to GO. Anyway, I rode it tonight for the first time and the dash lights are very dim. Seems like the headlight isn't as bright as it should be either? To top that off, I'm horrible with anything electrical, even though I play lead guitar for a kick ass rock band. Can someone just give me a clue what it could be? Thanks! Keith
  8. Okay, I popped the seat, opened the fuse box, and found a blown fan fuse. WHAT A FREAKIN ROCKET SCIENTIST I AM!!! Good thing I'm not in charge of the economy.....
  9. Well, looking at the manual (thanks spicholy) it may be the fan motor switch. I'm terrible with electrical. Anyway, does anyone know the fastest place to buy one?
  10. I'm not sure what the temp was because it is just a gauge that reads 'C' on the bottom and 'H on the top with no numbers. It ran all the way up to dead on middle of the 'H' and i shut it off. At that point the fan was still not kicking on.
  11. I just picked up a 99 BBXX with only 3700 miles on it. Even has the original Bridgestone tires on it. the bike runs amazing, but for one thing, when in traffic the fan won't kick on and it gets hot, all the way to the "H". Can anyone point me in the direction, via photographs or an in depth description of where to look for the fan fuse? Is there anything else that it can be? Thanks Keith p.s. I tried searching and found lots of "hot" running BB's but couldn't find anything about fans that won't turn on.
  12. ebay has a few different styles for cheap.
