  1. 'Bought the bike with Pirelli Diablos, don't like'em! Can't wait for them to bald-up so I can slap on those sweet Pilot Roads like I had on my previous bird! got 12k miles out of 'em no signs of cupping, front or rear, and what I admired the most was the fact that the grip (although not the stickiest I've seen obviously) is very constant regardless of temperature...It's one of the most predictable tires around.
  2. Mithrandir's version is pretty much the way to do it but could refered to as the "short version". There's a post by bhanxx called "6mm ride hight spacer installation gotchas" that's pretty explanatory and goes into a few "nice to know" details. As far as parts and goodies go, being in Montreal pretty much defeats the purpose and convenience of buying online (with the customs and money exchange and all), so I usually deal with my local parts shop. But one guy who's helped me out a lot is a guy in the UK called Jaws...he's got a few "Bird only" items, even manufactures some: his world famous "shrooms" (the bird's equivalent for frame sliders) You can reach him on the Brittish forum (superblackbird.org) or on his website (jaws-motorcycles.co.uk) and he ships to this side of "the pond".
  3. Hey Danie Congratulaition on purchasing the great Honda CRB1100XX. By the way, what color, because you might have to get it repainted in "titanium" to enhance performance. I know it sounds weird, but it's a fact that the titanium carbed birds are the fastest! The Givi bags are of good quality..but top of the line...you gotta take a look at the "specifically designed for the bird" beetle-bags from Corbin (some pics in the mods section of this site). Speaking of Corbin...your butt would thank you for purchasing one of their seats, a definite must! The carbs inserts were also added in the "restricted european (France Spec) bird": limited to 100 hp. No chance that happened in Colorado. Pipes, I have a set of D&D slip-ons, but if your looking at a full system, AKRA is the only way to go. On the no-no side I was told by my dyno guy that the Yosh full would actually bring a significant loss in power at mid-range. Your 97, like my 98, will without a doubt show the typical 5500-6000rpm "flat-spot" in acceleration, which is instatly cured with a jet kit (Dyno-Jet does-it real well). You also might be tempted to look at a screen if you're a bit on the tall side...Zero Gravity's Dubble Bubble does it for my 6'1". If you're one to enjoy the twisties and tight turns, raising the rear-end by 5-7mm should make your bike more nimble and seem much lighter...I raised it 6mm and I love it! Quite possibly the best improvement for the money...total cost: about 1$ and 30min to install. Hope this will be the start of a long and beautiful love story for you, like it is for pretty much all the guys that roam these pages!
  4. Thanks for the info...very helpful  . EUREKA, I do have a ripped diaphragm, thus, fuel starvation at the tap level. I called the local Honda stealer this morning and this thief is teeling me I can't buy a diaphragm, I have to buy a complete tap assy for 125$ :pissedfingers: . I smell bullsh.. , Please oh please lord tell me he's lying. Does anyone know if it's possible to get the piece alone (even in aftermarket) or I'll have to, once again, bend over and let Mr. H stick it to me one more time :whip: (damn, I almost don't fell it anymore). Let me know. Thanks
  5. Thanks guys, you make a lot of sense, I think you're sterring me in the right direction. Now, if I have the valve on the "on" position with the bike not running, sould I get a flow of gas or it absolutely needs a vacuum...'cauz I ain't gettin' any, even with the cap opened! where the heck is the filter, within the valve assembly? anybody gotta pic/procedure?
  6. Hi guys still having probs with my baby (98 carbed with 20k miles on). Coming out this year I thought I might "spike the sauce" a bit so I went with a dynojet/K&N combo. Once intalled to instructions settings, it idled great, lots of punch on acceleration in first couple of gears so I thought let's go for a supersonic ride... soon as 125mph (about 7k in 6th)came, she just died on me, right there, like I had hit the kill switch! she came down in rpms (even with WOT) and then stared to jerk and cough... went down to 3rd gear, cranked it; she hesitated a little, bang, acceleration that would rip your soulders out of sockets, only to die again in 5th at about 9k. She wouldn't hold a steady 100mph in 6th or any kind of mid/high revs in 3rd or up. I played around with needle settings, mixture screws for a while, without any results, other than the bike being worse (wrong mixture and stuff). I then proceeded to take out everything and go back to OEM settings (needles, jets, air filter), nothing...still acting in the same way. So I thought, I must have wecked something in the carbs, so I changed the whole carb bank (all OEM). Nothing. I took my baby to the shop, told my guy to do a valve clearance check (which was due) and to install to jet kit (I figured he might be able to get it better than I did). Got MY baby back, still sputtering and jerking at steady high RPMs in last 3 gears, and it wont go anywhere past 130mph. I am going nuts, I checked my vacuum line to the tank, all sorts of things and now it only seems to be getting worse, I'm pretty sure it's not carb related, it might have to do with fuel delivery, or it might be electrical. Now, I'm down to complet desperation...I even though about (GOD!) trading it in for a busa (I'm sorry baby). What would be the signs of a REG/RECT that's going, is there any way to test coils, (by the way I've put in new plugs). DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEA?
  7. I just read the voodoo post on jetting...I'm all set!!!
  8. Hey guys, Iknow this is going to sound dumb  but I'm at the re-assembly process on my 98 carbed bird and I completely forget where to hook-up some on the fuel lines...OK, OK I know where the two "main lines" are hooked up, I also remember the little one slight in front of the right main that goes on the little nipple on the "block". I'm just wonderin' about the two other ones dangling from the tank...if memory serves, they're somekind of overflow (i'm pretty sure about the small one) but the bigger one, left hand side...should it drip under the bike? Just wanna make sure!
  9. Thanks Andy. Are you saying that if I order an emulsion tube, the needle jet would be included? Allright guys, finally posted som pics of MY carbs...so here it is , The inner Keihin CV42...and the goddam neddle jet. This is my nightmare in terms of size where it goes When in place The Keihin is pretty much steup like the pic below, the emulsion tube and needle jet are seperated and are not set in te same 'passage' (they meet at an angle.) Note that in this pic the "collar" should look like this firts pic I posted up there! So I'm still looking for a carb...
  10. Would anyone of you guys know a junkyard who has a bird carb laying around...it does not need to be in good working condition. I have a shipping address in the great US of A! Thanks guys
  11. hey guys, thanks for the replies but the diagrams are the same I've been seing lately, the needle jet is not there...what these guys call the needle jet is in fact the "emulsion (or sray) tube" (thin brass tube with tiny holes in it that's about 1.25" long and holds the main jet). What I'm lookin for would only be seen from an "inner venturi view"! Here's a view of a similar carb. Look at the part where they say "Needle Jet (Collar)"...That what I'm looking for! Any Help?
  12. 'cauz I'm a dumbass  ! The carbs were off for re-jetting and a screwdriver fell in the tube and scratched it a bit, I THOUGH "well lets try and gently take it out and sand it off..." but of course a soon as a pair of needle nose pliers came close to this tiny piece of brass, it dented! So then I THOUGH " well let's pry this little bugger out and replace it with a brand new one, I 'll stop by the shop on monday..." that was a month ago. I the only scarp yard anywhere close to here is probly one of the worse crooks on the surface of this planet... He says he's got a set of carbs that he's not willing to split..and he'll gladly sell it to me for 500$ :devilfinger: . He's even worse than Honda!
  13. GREETINGS FELLOW BIRD LOVERS. This being my first post here, I wanted to begin with a friendly Howdy! Now the question, I've got a HUGE problem  . I damaged a neddle jet cap on carb #4. I'm not sure the terminology is quite right 'cauz freakin' Honda ( ) doesn't list this part. I'm actually talking about the small solid brass cylinder that sticks out of the main body of the carb and that the needle slides in and out of. The last orifice the fuel comes out of before going through the air funnel. It is said to not removeable...well I've got it in my hand and it's broke. The tube is about 1/2" in lenght 1/8" inside dia., and has a tiny rubber O-ring at the end of it. It's basically the 1/16" brass lip that sticks out of the aluminium body into the air funnel. I do have pics of my part but dunno how to post them! I know Factory-Pro carries some of these aftermaket "non-removeable" neddle jets but not for our dearly beloved! If anyone can help finding one of those (or has a used carb at a kickass price) please let me know...I don't like the idea of getting ripped of by Mr.H for a 400$ new carb cauz these bast... don't stock what is probly a 3$ brass tube! If you think you know the part I'm reffering to but wanna make sure , send me an email and reply some pics Thanks a bunch!
