  1. That wasn't really an option. Real sudden engagement, extremely small movement that didn't allow for controlled slipping off the line. If it had been mine I would have removed it.
  2. Ok, bought a stem mount a long while back that won't work on the bird, or my 1000rr. Ditching the cordless detector for a hardwired version that works better but need a mount. I remember Hobie had a good piece of hardware, but with all the bugs, grime, oil, and soot on his bike I don't recall exactly how it looked. Who has the line on hardware for this?
  3. Ever consider murdering it out? Stretching and slamming it? Making it a street fighter??
  4. Since I have the front end apart I will check the hardline connections more closely. Honestly I never really paid attention to them, beyond a safety inspection.
  5. Friend of mine installed a SS clutch hose and it really fucked up the launch on his VMAX. Went from nice and progressive when coming out of the hole to very sudden engagement. I viewed it as a major step in the wrong direction. Anyone find that on the Bird?
  6. Ok, after 21 one years the old girl has had serious upgrades and has had performed brilliantly. Thinking the original brake hoses should go. Possibly clutch hose as well. Would like a braking improvement over stock. Not really sold on the delink for a performance street machine, so leaning towards retaining the LBS. Have you done the change? Brand? Long term opinion? HH pads do feel better. No initial hard bite, but progressive force right to the point that the front starts a controlled chirping lockup. Didn't play with stoppies yet since the bitch was on the back.
  7. When you are moving motorcycles are cooler.
  8. For now I will protect the possibly innocent. Once I resolve the tuning I certainly will.
  9. I hear you, but receiving a set of forks with essentially no rebound control is no minor issue. Further communication with the shop that delivered this condition resulted in the suggestion that I tear the forks off the bike and switch to ten weight oil. It doesn't take a works suspension guru to understand that affects both compression an rebound damping. A bandaid approach at best. There simply is a direct correlation to the components that facilitates a rebound only damping change. I won't go into the phone call I had Friday with the company that inferred that the fluid was now too old and likely the issue, that only experts could work on the valving since it's too complicated to understand, that there are no instructions to install the kit, and that I should make adjustments as described in the paperwork included with the rear shock to correct the issue. I have a short duration of cordiality when talking to a "tech" that doesn't know the bird has no external fork adjustability and believes "old fluid" is to blame even though I calmly explained the condition existed as delivered. This is a simple fix. The stock forks were BETTER.
  10. Yes, I am aware the assembly needs to be changed, and I am sure instructions exist. Its just hydraulic valving, and I couldn't make it worse than it was when I got it returned from the "pro". I dropped a fair chunk of cash on this mod specifically to avoid the trial and error but here I am with trial and error I should have done originally.
  11. Kit was installed by a professional tech. I shipped the forks to them to rebuild respring and install the kit a few years ago. Upon receiving them I reinstalled and hit the road for an 1800 mile trip to find I had about zero rebound damping. When I called the man that did the work his "fix" was for me to switch from 5 weight to ten weight fluid which I did. I did help. But I still do not have enough rebound damping. Since I have to pull the front wheel for a tire change I wanted to finally address this myself. However, while some additional parts were returned to me I never received the instructions so I do not know how to facilitate additional rebound control.
  12. Does anyone have the installation instructions for the Ohlins fork valving kit? I need to work on mine but never had the paper work.
  13. Ok, left side hose looks good to go, right side....nope. Have to return it. The shorty hose behind the cylinders looks ok. Odd they changed the hoses, but I guess injection made it so.
  14. Nope...probably buy into something a little more hardcore though...
  15. Hoses are starting to show age, what with being 21 years old. The system runs about the same pressure as a car, so I am sure sooner or latter a hose will give it up. For less than 50 bucks I can afford to replace them the only time I will ever have to.
  16. I checked 97 vs 2000 and the numbers were the same, but they were n/a for the 97 and 98.
  17. Can anyone confirm that carbed birds use the same upper and lower radiator hoses as injected birds? I believe the part numbers are the same.
  18. 1300? Unless I could find a good used unit cheap I would consider converting. That could be a big liability when it comes time to sell though.
