a simple way to check for ground problem. turn on lights/indicators - what ever shows problem with FI light, then run a wire from the battery earth to anything metal at the front end, if FI light goes out you have a simple earth problem, there is an earth under below tank on left, heavy red wire in black sleeve, you can see through the hole in left cowling, not much room but if you can remove philips screw and clean with sandpaper this should fix problem.

have a 99 model xx and would like to brighten up the dash lights, what options do i have apart from fitting those fancy dials etc, i guess i'm looking for brighter bulbs or maybe LED replacements

Lift your hands off the steering at 40-50-mph and the steering starts into a wobble and if you didn't get those hands back on there it would wobble out of control, i believe my bearings are worn or need tightened, wheel balance may also have a share in this problem, i doubt that a brand of tyre is the cause.
