  1. I'd say yes. The only reason I hesitate is because "winter jacket" could be subjective now that I think about it. I've definitely seen jackets with heavier insulation, but I wouldn't hesitate to leave the house in 20 degree weather in that thing, assuming I wasn't just wearing a t-shirt under it- and even that might be okay for a short while. It has a medium weight fleece lining with some additional insulation between the lining and the shell.
  2. My in laws have a tradition of giving me a pretty nice jacket/coat for Christmas every year. While I appreciate this, I've been married for a long time and a guy can only use so many coats. I've never been one to sell a gift, so other than a couple I've given away, I still have most they've ever given me. Time for that to change for a good cause, I'm sure they'd understand. All of these jackets were new when I got them. If they've been worn at all it was very little. That said, they've been hanging in a closet, some of them for literally over a decade. There are no tears, damage or funny smells, but some may have a slight case of "hanger nipples" on the shoulders and may or may not hang just right when first worn. This will be a "no reserve" auction format, to end on 02/05/13 at 12:00am. Post a jacket number and a bid. If you'd prefer to bid anonymously, PM me and I'll put it up in the thread. You're just going to have to trust that I won't abuse that, hopefully my reputation here is good enough for at least that. Highest bidder a month from now has bought the jacket. Get some $$ to a good cause and get yourself a nice jacket in the process- everyone wins. That said, onward... Jacket number 1 is a Dockers 3/4 XL black leather coat. It's got what 'd call medium weigh insulation. Jacket number 2 is a Brook Brothers 3/4 length XL brown leather coat. At least the tag says leather, it's a really supple and has an almost suede like feel to it, and yes I know suede is actually leather, shuddup. Just trying to be clear. Insulation is again what I would call of a medium weight. Jacket number 3 is a Tommy Hilfiger, I guess what you'd call a ski jacket. I'm not a skier, so I'm not sure. XL Jacket number 4 is another XL Tommy Hilfiger. More of a parka. And the fifth and final jacket would be an XL Columbia 3/4 length brown leather one. Once again we have what I would call medium weight insulation. All payments will go directly to zero2heroguitar7@gmail.com Once Keith confirms receipt of funds, I'll cover shipping.
  3. I like the looks of that, but can you still wear gloves? I used to work out bare handed all the time, but now that I'm used to gloves it just feels weird. I need to get my bag set back up. That and a bike (a real bike, like, outside) are the only kind of cardio I can ever get myself to do. Not doing much biking lately, so... Seriously, the cardio and core workout is one of the main reasons I stuck with martial arts. I suck at self motivation on both of those even when I'm all in the zone. A 9th degree black belt screaming at me seems to do the trick every time, though.
  4. I wear gloves with wrist straps when I'm lifting, but the lifting isn't really the problem. In the same spot on both wrists I get this little catch/click and when it happens it's like someone stuck a knife in there. It's totally unpredictable and has nothing to do with load- it can happen when I'm taking the cap of a milk jug or brushing my teeth and I occasionally drop shit because of it. A brief hit of intense pain, and then it's gone. The orthopedic guy isn't sure what's wrong even after an MRI, but it's happening more and more. Creatine- yes.
  5. I've been back at it myself in the last few weeks. I hadn't touched the weights in over five months, and man, it goes away fast. My first session was truly pathetic, but on the upside it is coming back pretty quick. I guess "muscle memory" isn't just a cute buzz phrase. I also picked back up with the martial arts in December, another thing I've been terrible about in recent months. The one thing I learned is once I stop, it's really hard to get motivated again. Next year I'm going to find the time and energy to at least maintain over the summer so I don't have a hill to climb in the fall/winter. The one fly in my ointment is both of my wrists are going to shit and may require surgery. That's absolute last resort, but it's looking less and less avoidable as time moves on. Dean, whatever you have going on with yours, tread lightly. There's a tipping point where they simply don't come back anymore- punching shit doesn't help.
  6. Rayovac makes a line of "indestructable" LED flashlights, I own several of them. They're waterproof, I've dropped mine on concrete from 10-12 feet without issue and the 2 "AA" version puts out more light than my 5 "D" cell maglight. Oh, and the batteries last forever. http://www.homedepot.com/buy/rayovac-indes...t-diy2aa-b.html Couple of those and a roll of duct tape should run you about $40.
  7. It's all yours, John. I'll plan on bringing it to RacerXX, drop me a PM with your addy if you need it sooner.
  8. One is marked "Nuvi 1690" and might be missing part of the retention system, see pic. The other isn't marked for a model but seems a bit fancier. There's a fused power cord and two ports on the left side, one audio out and the other is a mic input. Check out the pic and see if it might fit your unit. There are currently Ram Mount balls attached to the backs of both, but those will be removed before shipment Free to your door, just PM me dibs and an address.
  9. IIRC, Canadian frames were/are grey. That one is black, so I'm guessing it was a body swap.
  10. I do a fair amount of light metal work and Wiss has always served me well. Do yourself a favor and don't just grab the first set off the rack. Even amongst the same model some are definitely smoother than others and it's worth the time to hand pick a pair.
  11. Been good, but busy. Things are slowing down now and it's just about time to start work on that bike in my garage. A rat tourer is gonna need bags...
  12. If that wingrack is serviceable and you're looking to sell, drop me a PM. Aesthetics are a total non issue.
  13. To be clear, the adjusters need to be snugged outward (clockwise), not turned in. Turning them in will just make it worse.
  14. +1, that method has even been tested by a skeptic.
  15. In business suits an off the rack 48L is about perfect for me, though I have to buy separates because I don't have the 38 inch waist that's apparently supposed to go with a 48 jacket. If you're a 52, you and I are built very differently even if our heights and weights are in the same ballpark.
  16. I actually own a 46 and a 48. The 46 is a little short in the sleeves, but nothing a pair of gloves doesn't easily cover. The sleeve length is close to perfect on the 48, but it's a little big through the torso. Both could be called short in the waist, but that's more a product of how Vanson cuts their sport style jackets than anything else. It's worth noting I'm 6'10" fingertip to fingertip, so my arms are longer than they should be for my height (6'3"). I recall you're a tall guy, are you heavy as well? I was still squeezing into a 46 when I was 230+ and out of shape and it actually fit pretty damn good when I was 215-220 and in shape.
  17. Me too. If I didn't already own two Vanson jackets, I'd be all over that thing at that price. Still tempting, but I need another jacket like I need a hole in the head.
  18. Sorry for the rewind, but something just clicked... Not that I have any huge experience, but I've sparred at a total of two gyms and both of them required head gear, never mind "letting" you wear it. I have zero personal experience with any MMA type gyms, but as a business owner I'd have to think that anything else would be an insurance nightmare. Concussions are way too easy to come by doing the bare knuckle/head thing.
  19. LOL, that's me living in my little world. Only time I wear anything besides jeans is weddings and funerals. I forgot some (most?) people don't wear jeans to work.
  20. Hell, if it's muscle, buy different jeans. Seriously, I can't picture anyone but a serious weightlifters filling up the legs on a pair of relaxed fit Levis. Not that I've ever had that problem. You been squatting or working your legs a lot? Weightlifting has never helped me at martial arts, probably the opposite. Stronger is better, but heavier generally isn't. Martial arts= cardio, flexibilty, balance. Weightlifting (the way I was doing it) = strength and mass. For my purposes they offset each other nicely and earlier this year I was in the best shape of my life at 42, but if I was to focus on one of the other I'd certainly see more progress. My instructor kinda frowns on weightlifting, at least the low rep/high weight variety. I do. It's still nice knowing you've got at least some training if push ever comes to shove. That's the only sparring I've ever done, and that'll fuck you up, too. A few shots to the side of the leg/knee will have you walking funny for a few days. I'd honestly rather be hit in the head, I've got more experience with that.
  21. Not to kill any potential sales, but there's no way you can know that after one "real" ride. Get used to the bike before you spend money fixing shit that might not be broke. What was your last bike?
  22. Muscle or fat on your legs? You're confusing me a bit with the above. Muscle loss is the problem. I have no business weighing more than 200, maybe 205 unless I'm working out. Since I dropped a bunch of weight 2.5 years ago, I've vowed not to be significantly overweight again. I'm doing okay with that, but I am totally out of shape for the first time in over two years. So it's much less a matter of what I weigh than what that weight consists of, which is gooey softness at the moment. I've weighed as much as 220 in the last 2 years, but I was in much better shape at the time. That MMA shit is going to beat the hell out of you no matter where you go. I can see the attraction, but if you're dealing with constant injuries, where's the true benefit? At 40+ I've conceded that my badass days are behind me (or entirely in my head ) and focused more on beneficial forms/movements. I consider any increased competency in a fighting situation a bonus rather than a goal.
  23. I actually dropped a bit of weight, but it was all hard earned muscle. I now weigh less, but my waist is bigger, neat trick, eh? The roofing season will be over soon and I'll be back to it...hope to be back up to 215 and testing for black belt by next spring.
