  1. Get the clear alternatives led kit. It looks good and the blinkers are integrated. I have the kit that has amber leds for the signals built in. so the brakes are red and singals are amber. IMO it looks really trick and from what others tell me it is pretty visable
  2. True story! that bottom screw isnt going anywhere! slid the rubber boots on the mirror mounts up and there should be two bolts, take out the bolts the mirror slides out and they the signal assembly. dont mess with the screw on the bottom of the mirror you will just strip the screw all up
  3. Well what i ended up doing was putting the bike on its center stand, then used a small scissor jack on the oil pan to get the front wheel just off the ground. i took the front fender off and slid the front wheel out. this system seemed to work pretty good!
  4. i will be getting my metzler mi/z6 combo on monday. i rode the dunlops to the cord today. any ways i was wondering what you guys do to get the front wheel off, how do you hold up the bike. i dont have a stand for the front, i have access to a tire changer so thats no problem but how the hell do you guys brace the bike when you take the front wheel off?
  5. This topic has been well hashed over check it out at this link: http://www.cbr1100xx.org/forums/index.php?...hl=drop+it+like
  6. I used some Techron in my 87' Magna to clean the carbs and I felt a little difference. The strange part of my expierence is that when I had the Techron in the tank the exhaust really seemed to snarl. I could feel a little more throttle response after the Techron but no major hp gains as you speak of. The only products that I've tried that actually did anything are Techron and Seafoam. i've never used the Suzuki stuff
  7. I'm getting my new tires put on here in a month after my dunlops are fully worn out, and I will check the wheel bearings then. The dealership sells just about all jap bikes but Suzuki. We also sell Buells and harleys. A few of the guys out in the shop ride Buells, but I'm not sure i have ever actually seen one on the showroom floor in the last two years. I think Erik Buell has some great ideas but Harley engines are what is holding him back. The dealership sells the hell out of harley tshirts seems like every good ol boy wants a Harley Davidson tshirt from Dodge City. Out here in south west kansas Harleys and cruisers are the big sellers. No twistys to have big fun on a super sport, so the cruisers provide what these guys are looking for. The roads out here are long and striaght. I suppose if there were anymore twistys in south west kansas I would have gotten an RC51 instead of the XX but the XX owns the straights and that seems to be all there is out here. This is a bit off topic but its not worth starting a new thread for. I was going to shimm the rear last night. I pulled the tank and all that stuff only to find it was already shimmed!! I was then tempted to pull them out and ride a little just to feel the difference, but figured there was no real benifit in that so I put it all back together and went for a nice long evening ride.
  8. I got a new job and will be starting May 22. The good thing about this new job is that it is 50 miles from my house so I will put 100 miles a day on the XX. But also for this reason I need to make sure everything is ready to handle all the miles I wil start to put on the bike. My front wheel makes a very very slight grinding sound when i have it in neutral and I am coasting at speeds under 20mph. I dont know if its the wheel bearing or not. how many miles can i expect from the wheel bearings? I've got about 15,000 miles on my 97' XX. My new job is at Dodge City Harley-Davidson Honda, we also sell Yamaha, Kawasaki, and KTM needless to say I'm pretty excited to be surrounded by shiney new cycles everyday. I cant see me standing around in em for 9 hours a day with out getting attached to one. I'm already schemeing about a black ZX14 to share the miles with the XX.
  9. How is it different? What can I expect from one that I wont from the other?
  10. Its been raining here for about two weeks straight and the forcast has it raining until the weekend. I'm tossing between the rear shim (6mm) or simply lowering the front via sliding the forks. I know that we have had many threads recently about how much you can slid them up and all that. But what I want to know is if i slid the forks 6mm through the trees will i get the same results as raising the rear 6mm? I imagine that I would be changing the geomety the same so it should have the same results. Anyone see a reason (other than clearance) that raising the rear would be better then lowering the front? Will the handling changes be the same if i lower the front rather than raise the rear? thanks for your help guys!
  11. I've had Dunlop, Metzler and Avons on my 87' and I think the Metzler ME880 is the hands down winner. The Avon has a cooler looking tred pattern and mounted the Avon looks wider on the rear ( I guess thats cool?) but for performance I really would suggest the ME880 in the stock sizes. They wear pretty well but more importantly at the Gap is they are really predictable and corner very very well. If you have not used the Metzler ME880's before on the Super Magna you are missing out. When compared to the factory Dunlops there is no comparison the Metz are literally a 150% better tire in every way over the Dunlops. I dont know if you know about www.supermagna.com but they have a great discussion board the guys over on the supermagna.com board are really good guys and can answer any question you would have about your super magna. Also they have some really nice bikes i post on the supermagna board as KCSuper so check it out! The picture below is a picture with the Metzler tires mounted you can see the sidewalls pretty well. The rear shocks have been relaced with some from a VTX1300
  12. I bought my XX in late aug with around 10,000 miles I just turned 15,000 this weekend! Anyways I bought the XX used from a dealer who bought it from a widow that knew pretty much nothing about the bike. her husband died and the XX sat in her garage from 9 months before she sold it to the dealership. The bike runs great but i was wondering if at 15,000 should I replace sparkplugs, carb tune up, and perhaps get the valves looked at. The chain and sprokets are still in good shape and The bike IMO runs really good but I was just wondering what things may need to be addressed at the 15,000 mile mark.
  13. Do you know about how much they cost? Also I was wondering if you have heard the Hindles on an XX? I've heard a Hindle on a Hayabusa and it was really really quiet. I'd go so far as to say the Hindle on a Hayabusa was almost as quiet as stock. Are they really, really quiet on our Blackbirds as well? Are the Hindle for the XX single or dual exhaust? Could you possibly compare the sound to another company? I'd forgotten that Hindle still made highmounts for our XX's. I knew that MIG quite making highmounts for the XX and thought i was outta luck for highmounts!
  14. I have been practing a little and have borrowed a set of heel plates from a friend of mines RC51. He just bought some i think Vortex sets so I have his old heel plates as a template to copy. I will post pictures as soon as I finish it up. The weather has been really nice so I will wait for a rainy day to take off my plates and drill them.
  15. I would like to see a picture of your powdercoated swingarm. I have been contemplating PC'ing mine but just couldnt quite imagine how it would look!
  16. My other idea was to buy a single leo vince, or blue flame silencer and make it a single outlet high mount. Then I would powder coat the swing arm black and I think the bike would look pretty racy. The first thing I would want to know is if you think it is reasonable to get a highmount mid pipe custom made. Would it be difficult to make this custome midpipe a single outlet? what are the difficulties I may run into? And second If I were to buy a single Exhaust silencer (blue flame, Leo Vince) would it be best to get one that was made for a litre bike? or does it really matter? I know this idea may be totally rediculous but Its something I've been banging around in my head for a while and wanted to have an idea of what i was getting myself into before I started possibly throwing money away. Thanks guys
  17. Id like to get a set of high mount Erions, but they dont make em like that! I was wondering if anyone has had midpipes made? I was thinking either a chopper shop or muffler shop may be able to custom bend me some midpipes to fit the Erion cans. Is there a reson that no one has had this done before?
  18. You guys are not kidding about SWMototires having good prices. i feel foolish for every buying tires anywhere else! unfortuantly they do not carry the Bridgestone BT-056. after reading around here for a while I think I will go with the AVON's it seems like they last a long time. and as i stated before there are no canyons in kansas, so I need a tire that is good in a straight line for a long time!
  19. I have decided I will either get Bridgestone BT-56's or the Bridgestone BT-010 or the Michilan Pilot Powers? I can get a pretty good deal on these tires from a friend of mine who sells Bridgestones and Michilans. I was wondering what the pros and cons are of the two types. Having a bike like the blackbird is interesting to buy tires for since they are so powerful and heavy but still very capible of sport riding. Thanks for the help guys!
  20. Easy enough! I'll do that this weekend. Its supposed to rain
  21. I've heard plenty about shimming up the rear shock. I was wondering if there is anyone that has directions on going about this? I did a search for it but the words rear shock and shim all bring up lots of results. I was hoping some one could walk me threw what is needed to shim the rear shock. Thanks!
  22. I have been looking at my XX and thinking about the things I'd like to change. One would be the Heel plates. I know that the XX is a tourer but the heel plates are just so plain looking. I was thinking of drilling them in a pattern similar to the RC51. has anyone done anything like this? I dont really want to shell out any kind of big bucks just to make the heel plates look different, and I have a drill press and an array of nice hand drills but i was wondering how well the aluminum would drill. Do you think I would be able to do a nice clean job my self or would it be worth my time and a little money to take them to a machine shop and pay them a few bucks to do it for me? Or I guess do you think that the idea is stupid and would probibly not turn out as good as i would want it to?
  23. I've got a set of Dunlop 208's size 180 rear on my blackbird. I just bought the XX in Aug and have since put on about 3,000 miles. The tires were pretty new when I bought the bike but I have worn them down a considerable amount. I live in Kansas where the roads are long and straight so I dont get much to any action in the twistys. My tire has a fairly nice curve still but it has developed a slight flat spot in the middle. I have been getting more and more comfortable with the bike and as a result have been pushing it harder and harder. Now when I sweep threw a light left hand turn (like when riding in town) and get on the gas pretty good it feels like the rear tire is sliding out. Is it because I am leaning just far enough to set the tire on the curb of the flatish middle spot? Or am I simply over powering the rear and the wheel spin is enough to push the tire out from under me? Is this a normal feeling? Are my tires pretty much worn out, Id bet they have 3,700 miles on them, and most of those miles are in a straight line? I want to clear up that I do occassionlly ride curvey roads and feel comfortable getting very far over, and at 60mph and up I dont feel this odd sensation but it seems that at a slower speed corner and under accelleration is when the tire really wants to step out. This is probibly a stupid question. but the XX's tire is by far the biggest tire I have ridden on, and I just dont know how these wider tires act and wear. I am unable to look down and back to see whats happening when I am traveling through middle of an intersection. So i was hoping you guys could diagnose my problem.
  24. I just emailed you about a set in the Natural finish. I didnt know if it would be better to contact you here on the board or threw your email. Either way I apprecate the cool product you provide. It will really clean up one of the few eyesores on the XX. How do your plugs mount in the hole? (oh i'm probibly asking for it by putting plug, mount and hole in the same sentence on this board) - Elliot
  25. I think I rememebr seeing a Blackbird with a set of frame plugs that matched the allen head pattern on the faring bolts. Where do you buy the frame plugs. It looked like they fit into the two rather large holes on each side of the frame. I was wondering where I can buy a set
