  1. My Two Brothers are loud. They are anything but stealth, especially being geared 16/45 the added revs make the bike seem loud all the time now. I suppose I could repack them, but the sound doesn't bother me that much, but for your info two brothers are generally loud all though they are repackable... but who really want to do that?
  2. Ti Force and Akrapovic give the best power gains, i think. Both are 4-2-1 systems, the yoshimura 4-2-1 system gets good hp gains as well. but as a trade off the center stand wont work on all the 4-2-1 systems. Get a full system if you want the most power. I put dual carbon fiber two brother slipons on my xx because I like how they look, like the way they, sound and they saved me alot of weight. do some thread searchs on exhaust I'm sure you will find your answers.
  3. Colorite is the supplier for honda touch up paint. and its true metallic paint is nealy impossible to patch. either sand down a large section and feather it back in, or maybe a good air brusher, but I honetly dont think you will be thrilled with any touch up job on the metallic silver bird. probibly easiest and least frustrating to just get the piece repainted

    Jardine??

Not to take anything away from Jardine. The Team Hondas pipes were Akropovics with Jardine labels. Jardine paid Honda alottttttttt of money to label them as so. Nothing wrong with Jardines. Gettem and ride!!! Well you may not mean to take away from Jardine. But i know one little girl who is going to be upset to find this out... looks like I will be soon reporting on the Akrapovic exhaust for the F4i. And for those that were curious about the akrapovic/jardine switch i found this story: http://motorcyclebloggers.com/2005/04/29/j...e-or-akrapovic/ As we were BS’ing all that is motorcycle at lunch, I was reminded of the following incident that I witnessed with my very own eyes at the Daytona Superbike races in 2000 or 2001 - the one where Scott Ru$$ell got ran over at the start of the race (compound leg fracture) riding for Ducati. Anyway, a good friend of mine and riding buddy at the time when I was still in Michigan, Jim Sheldon (now owner of Trackoholics - a track day organization out of Michigan) and I flew down to Daytona to hang with his brother at the races. Let’s just say that we were able to get access to areas that mere mortals did not have. It was incredible to get that close to the race machines as well as the riders. Christ, Jim jumped the wall with other photographers and started snapping pics of the riders during open practice on Saturday. Very cool. We also had access to the factory trailer areas. As we were wandering with our bibs strapped on to catch the drool, we came across the factory Honda trailer…and the tailgate was open. As we got closer it became apparent that it was Nicky Hayden’s trailer / crew. What I saw next was pretty disappointing and moreso disingenuous…not illegal, but a little grey in my book. We saw a guy open a box of Akrapovic mufflers (yeah the Titanium ones) and take a heat gun to the side. Hmmm…take a heat gun to the side of perfectly new muffler? Well as we were standing there un-noticed, the guy peeled back the Akra sticker and replaced it with a Jardine sticker. I nudged Jim and asked quietly “did you just see that?”. He did. At that time we now became noticed. The tech then scurried into the trailer and lifted the tailgate. Later that afternoon, we went down to Hayden’s bike and took a closer look. At the time I had a full Akrapovic system with that same muffler on my R1 and was quite familiar with its shape, finish, and appearance. Well, you guessed it. Surer than hell, the muffler with the Jardine badge on it was in fact an Akrapovic. We shook our heads a little and pretty much left it alone for the day and watched the races. That night as we were BS’ing around the campfire (so to speak), we all came to the conclusion that there was nothing technically wrong with what we saw. Jardine (a big sponsor to the Honda / Hayden effort) bought a piece of real estate on the bike for their logo. A choice one at that. Again, nothing technically wrong but its a little shady for my taste. I always think of that phrase about racing “win on Sunday, sell on Monday”. Well, the same applies to exhaust systems. I wonder how many RC51 people went out and got Jardine exhaust systems / slip-ons under the assumption that the successful factory team uses Jardine products. However, the two of us witnessed the best Akrapovic endorsement one could possibly see. The moral of the story: Just as in everything in life, not everything is as it appears…even factory race team sponsored parts.

    Jardine??

We have a Jardine slip on mounted on my girlfriends F4i. I was thinking of maybe a Leo Vince for it, but she said "If the jardine was good enough for Team Honda and Duhamel, its certianly good enough for me" I thought that summed it up pretty well. They are well made and the fit is soo much better then my TwoBros. They are a little more quiet then some exhaust but it is really a nice tone and it sounds good. I actually really like the noise level of the Jardine on her F4i, but I've never heard one on an XX.

    FI-LIGHT

Well i have a problem of a with my FI light as well. It seems back in 1996 when Mr. Honda was dreaming about air bags for the Goldwings he just flat out forgot to put that light in my cluster. I dont mean to hi-jack this thread but does anyone know about velocity stacks for my old Carbd' bird?
  7. I did loose one of the bolts on the left hand side. I didnt loctite it when I put it back on. and never I checked the torque. It took about 5000 miles for it to wiggle loose, so I would probibly recommend some loctite
  8. I've got a clear alternative LED signal integrator. I replaced the bulbs with a LED board, Its pretty damn trick, the signals are orange leds and the brake and running lights are red leds, I dont know if this setup is avaible for 99-, but it would solve the over under bulb delima
  9. I think I am going to chrome as much as possible. i think i will most likely polish the fork legs. Do you think there will be a clearance issue if I chrome the brake and clutch lever? Will everything still fit alright. I know there are some awsome aftermarket levers, but i want my XX to still look very stock. With my powdercoating and chroming I dont want to really change the look of the XX as much as accent it the way I think Mr Honda would... say he was not so damn conservative I called a local chromer today and got a price quote (he said it would be around $200, but mostly likely a few dollars less) This is what I will be getting chromed, or polished if he cant get a good chrome job: - passenger pegs, peg hangers - rider pegs, sets -brake pedal - shift lever - gas cap ( I am leaning toward maybe buying the Pro-Tek one instead * thanks rockmeupto125) - clutch & brake levers -fork caps -headbolt cover - machined frame plugs bought off ebay The local powdercoater shot me a price of $200 to flat black powdercoat: - swing arm - exhaust hangers - top triple tree - handlebar clip ons I have never had any powdercoat or chrome work done, so i really dont know if this seems like a far price or not?
  10. It looks like I am not going to have any good riding weather here for a while so I am going to start disassembly for my winter projects. I was curious if ayone has gotten their gas cap chromed? I've decided I am going to chrome the gas cap, clutch, and brake lever, passenger pegs, Fork caps ,steering head bolt and rider pegs/sets. I will be flat black powdercoating the swingarm, top triple tree, and clipons. My wheels will continue to be factory black. What do I need to do with the lock mechanism on the gas cap when I get it chromed? or better yet does anyone know where I can buy a chrome gas cap? I dont really care if it locks or not. alsoI would rather just buy a set of chrome clutch/brake lever anyone know where I can get this stuff for the XX?
  11. So... you did pull it out of the factory filter and put it into the groove of the K&N, right? That's the way the '97-8's are, and I've been into several XX's, but they have all been carb'd, and I know the air boxes are different... Mike anyone have to rejet their bike because of the K&N to compensate for the leaner mix? or did you experience a flat spot at high RPM afterwards? just curious.. I doubt you would HAVE to rejet, but rejetting even with the stock filter and stock exhaust will help with the flat spot. I have stated my thoughts about rejetting a stock bike before. Rejetting for me anyways is too much work to be worth it. after installing an exhaust and K&N the a/f mixture is pretty far off and i would suggest rejetting but i guess to simply answer your question yes rejetting will help your flat spot, and no i dont think just installing a K&N will move that flat spot up in the rev range any. These are just my opinions, others will likely have different opinions
  12. Why dont you just call a local dealer? These questions would be answered in about 2 seconds on the phone by any decent Polaris partsman I would imagine.
  13. The K&N in my 97' fits very well also. Seals good and tight I've got no complaints
  14. I've got an old carbd' 97' XX. Stock it turned 130.53hp after the K&N airfilter, Dyno Jet Stage 1 jet kit, and TwoBros dual carbon fiber slipons it dynoed 135.98hp. Seems I'm about 5hp under most you guys with FI bikes with similar mods. Is this typical? is there about a 5hp difference between carb and FI. Is my XX maybe not running right? or was the dyno tighter? My girlfriends dads Haybusa with full HMF exhaust, K&N, PCIII, and Ivans TRE, only spun 159hp which I thought was alittle low. Since there have been so many hayabusa threds lately, I attached a photo of the XX the day after I bought it with his Busa. My best quarter mile time was 10.51@ 134mph I weight about 210 to 215lbs, run 16T front sprocket stock rear sprocket, tires at 28psi, and strapped front.
  15. I would bet that many of you have seen the bolt on swingarm extentions that are available for so many of the new sportbikes. does anyone know of any made for the XX? Or is their a bike that we know of that would use the same adjustable swingarm extentinos as the XX? I would like a set because it looks like they go on and off fairly quickly, this way i could make the bike long on drag days and return it to stock form for the rest of the time.
  16. Out side of an RC51 with a full Sato system, Leo Vinces sound the best on all bikes. They are awsome exhaust. I wish I would have known about this guy before I dropped the dough on the 2Bros!

    6mm Shim

I dont know what tires you are running but they will make alot of difference as well. Well cupped tires drasticly effect the handeling on the XX.

    6mm Shim

It is also slightly more difficult to wheelie, which can be a mixed blessing: if you like to wheelie it takes a little more effort, but switching to a 16T sprocket makes wheelies easy again, however for heavy throttle riding the 6mm shimm helps keeps the front planted a little better. Otherwise the only drawback is the added height. For refrence i am 6'0" with a 34" inseam and i can hardly tell a differnce on ride height with the 6mm shimm turn in is awsome and this mod costs less then a dollar, and improves turn in greatly
  19. I actually wanted a pair of Leo Vince's pretty badly, but i could not find them. I called all over and I guess they quite making them for the XX. But Leo Vince stuff is the best IMO. If you can find em buy em!
  20. Sounds easy enough. I was wondering if those bolts were some sort of tamper proof. Did you get all your faring bolts powdercoated black? that would probibly look pretty trick on a red bike! I will be doing my triple and bars flat black to match the swing arm and frame, but like you I will leave the fork caps and the middle bolt silver. Looks like we have rain for the next week so i might get started on this project a little sooner!
  21. Of couse I would! I remember in 1998 I think it was when Chevy put running lights on the corvette people threw a fit. They said Its a corvette I dont need running lights to draw attention. I feel the same about the XX it will look cleaner without em, and if you dont see me coming with my headlight on, and hear me coming with the 2Bros exhaust your certainly not going to recoginize me because of the two little orange lights.
  22. IMR9A-9H is the iridium plugs... I stand corrected, thanks for catching our goof
  23. I guess maybe I am most interested in the shrooms then. I dont really want to cut up my plastics. Are all shrooms escentially the same or are some better then others?
  24. Well whatever came in my 01 (platnium I presume) , are still going strong @ 37000K (23000Miles) I'm changing them out this week for a new set of the irridiums....wonder what I'll get out of them :icon_think: I pulled the stock plugs on my 97' carbed XX at 20,000miles and they were still like new. I only put the new ones in because I went to all the trouble to get the old ones out.
  25. The weather is dropping quickly now and So in a month I will start my powdercoat project. Which has gone from just the swingarm to swing arm and peg sets, and now I'm thinking of adding the top tripple (the one with the ignition) brake and clutch handles and the clipons. But how is the best way of going about taking off the top triple, and how do I get the ignition out of it? also does anyone have any pictures of this done?
