  1. Valid point kf4mtw! I would like to be able to change the Auto fluid occasionally. (Bloody stupid Automatic Transmissions, mumble, mumble :icon_wall: )
  2. yeah, but if you remember this reccomendation was changed when the triplanes were all the rage. Ah, those were the dayz... Good one! All true, but they do last far longer than the ridiculous distances some have mentioned. ...and the triplanes weren't built like the old biplanes.
  3. No No No! Don't listen to the manufacturer. What would they know. You have to change it every 500 miles. In the old bi-planes we used castor oil and you will glaze up the bore if you don't change it every ride. :icon_hand: Sorry, Getting a little caried away. :icon_shifty:
  4. I don't think it has to do with being able to read, or comprehend. It is a belief system you are trying to change, and that is always threatening to some people. Whoever ‘got in first’ with the differing opinion has set the belief system and it is difficult to change. The dogma such as ‘Oil is cheaper than engines’, ‘You can’t change your oil too often’ etc will not easily be dislodged with fact and information. It will be seen as a plot to undermine the belief system and resisted firmly. But hey....it's fun trying.
  5. If YOUR oil hasn't changed color after 1300 mile's there's something seriously wrong with your oil! Don't you think there's a possibility an oil company can add something to keep it clean looking for appearance, feel good reasons? WOW! I got five thousand miles on this new oil and it still looks like the day I put it in here! YIPPEEEE! I found an OIL I NEVER have to change..................If you don't mind an Ole Carpenters Opinion, oil is beautiful fresh out of the bottle, soon as the engine starts and the whole time it's running there's fuel contamination and metal, ever so fine, wearing down and going through the engine. The hotter and more rpm's the more contamination. How long would it take you to put 3000 miles on your lawn mower? Id venture to say many decades. How often do you change oil in your mower, once a year, :icon_think: every 30 miles at what, 500 rpm's?????????????????????????????????? He did wrote "black" not "changed color",I won`t even respond to the rest of your idiotic post or in the future, becouse, well,,,,,,,, "if you argee with an idiot it is hard to bystander to tell etc ". Apology to the rest of you guys. Have to agree with you :icon_duh:
  6. Seriously nice work there. :icon_clap:
  7. Just talking to a guy tonight. He has a 2005 cbr1100 with the problems you described and it was a fucked gearbox. Apparently the selector forks were worn very badly and did other damage as well. He has had other Blackbirds before with no problems so it seems it was a badly setup box from the factory. All covered under warantee. I've never heard anything like this before about Blackbirds. His description was "It felt like the chain was jumping over the teeth on the sprocket". I know yours is not a cbr1100. but it sound like a similar problem.
  8. If you use the wraps, how much/is any insulation is needed on the left bar end. Any suggestions on what to use would help. Shrink wrap? Electrical tape? etc.
  9. Back on topic (sorry) Get a can of Inox and spray into the switch. It is excellent for electrical switches. It has dielectric and lubricating properties and also stops corrosion and displaces water. Doesn't build up or gum up the switch either. No I don't have shares in the company. OK back off topic now.
  10. A friend’s 03 Bird had electrical issues relating to the FI light. Not your problem I know but it may have a similar cause. The problem was finally traced to the large connector behind and below the windshield. It has a large open ended rubber splash boot around it that had the open end facing up. It used to fill up with water every time he washed it. Changing the angle of the boot solved the problem. Mine was positioned correctly from new. May help. :icon_think:

    Chain Oilers

    Bump! Just keeping it fresh.
  14. Are you sure? I am (almost) positive that there is no catalytic converter in the junction box, only in the pipes.
  15. Thanks for the heads up. I was starting to wonder if it was a joke....getting a little frustated.
  16. That was my point. Little bits of metal don't float around your engine. Unless it's flying apart!
  17. Actually the oil in the pan is the remains of what has run through your engine. All lubrication is done with filtered oil. If you use a good quality filter (and good quality oil, more later) the particles you can see, even with glasses on do not get pumped through the engine. Side issue: Oil filters have a bypass valve to allow oil to flow around a clogged filter, so it is feasible that damaging particles can be pushed through an engine, but not likely if filters (and oil) are changed regularly. Oil has a number of jobs. Lubrication, Cooling, Preventing oxidation, Carrying particles in suspension, Sealing are among the main ones. Keeping particles in suspension is an important one because it is the only way they will get to the filter. Some particles may settle because of mass, or drop out of suspension because of long periods of rest between rides but they do no damage at all in a sump. If they get disturbed at all they will be taken up by the oil sump pickup….and taken to the filter. A magnetic plug is a useful tool for gross particles like valve collets or gear teeth but not much use for engine wear diagnosis. Just a gimmick. I do agree with an early oil and filter change but 3-4 times in the first 1000 miles is pushing it a little. But oil is cheaper than engine parts. :icon_think:
  18. I think you mean there is always little bits that the filter can't collect because it's stuck to the magnetic drain plug.
  19. You still have the blanking plate.
  20. No, never. I believe you should change them, I always forget to buy them.

    Gas grade???

Does your F250 do 200MPH on premium
  22. I've got an 04 "Super Blackbird". A friend has the 97. The 97 walks away from mine in all situations. Don't pass up an early carbed one, they are reliable and do go better than the FI models. Having said that, I like the "no fuss ever" situation of the FI. Hot, Cold, No problems...ever, and easier to retune with a PC if you change stuff.
  23. No! I'm actually enjoying it, but I like to watch
