  1. Damn! I actually knew the answer to this "technical" question Glad you worked it out.
  2. It's about the fit. They're both good helmets with reasonable prices. Personally, the AC fits my head much better than the CL. Round, tall head I am.

    pc11 question

I have heard that's a common problem with the PCII's I checked out a guy's 99 this summer who had the FI light on, when I asked him what that was about he said that the local shop traced it back to his PC and that if he disconnected it it would go away and the bike would run fine. Had him do it for me and sure enough, no FI and the bike ran brilliantly
  4. I read that damn auction today. The '02 with really low miles. I have never heard of anyone fucking with their balancers to "tweak" the bike's smoothness. Christ, the bike comes from the factory about as smooth as anyone could ever ask of a bike. He also goes on to mention that the XX is criticized for having rough suspension because it's setup for 2-up riding.... I have never heard that complaint either, actually the exact opposite, the bird's suspension being too soft. :icon_duh:

    4-2-1 pipes

You might do better to post this in the For Sale section
  6. Very nice :icon_thumbsup:
  7. What you're describing is reasonable to assume it's a CCT. That is a very cheap and easy fix and you should definitely contact John for the replacement part. The fix is about 5 mins worth of time and will make all the difference in the world
  8. Pretty sure they're 43mm http://www.cbr1100xx.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=36685
  9. My stock '97 was smoother than all my other FI XX's.... .no snatchiness, ever. With that few miles on it, likely it needs the carbs cleaned and probably wouldn't hurt to get them sync'd.
  10. Hindles Check out tjvulvula.. he has them on his bike.

    Vista vs. Nep

I have a Vista Cruise ( The Honda/dual throttle cable version not the Universal ) and I find it great :icon_clap:. I have put it so that the actual lever is facing forward/down towards the headlight after following a couple of article on Alternative mounting positions ( one from Jaws on the bird site I think and another of the net somewhere ) and at first glance you would not know a throttle lock was on there The advantage of this position is that the setup is nearly invisible, the lock will not foul on the tank, and doesn't get in the way of the starter button. The only real drawbacks are that it takes a little longer to fit as you need to file the mounting lug and put a short screw into the throttle housing and it is slightly harder to activate with thick gloves - I just use my index finger while gripping the throttle. It is the best AUS $ 40 that I have spent :icon_clap: :icon_clap: BTW a guy at work has an NEP on his 98 XX and it is mounted so that it sticks up towards the rider - looks ugly, makes it harder to reach the starter button, and could be a bit dangerous in an off :icon_think: although it is easier to put on/off That is exactly how I had mine setup too. dual cable, top notch, worked perfectly, can't see it from 5 iches away, doesn't knock the tank. And a very reasonable price.
  12. Damn you beat me to it! I knew that was the one when you asked about it but I couldn't find the thread!
  13. I do look forward to most of Joe's tech responses. Having very little mechanical aptitude I enjoy reading his self proclaimed long winded responses. They always make sense.
  14. +1... those are what I had on my '01
  15. LOVE Diablo Stradas...... LOVE THEM!
  16. http://www.cbr1100xx.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=35487 SCORE!!! Looks like you can get them for $145 shipped to your door... damn nice price.
  17. I asked that same question during the original group buy.. http://www.cbr1100xx.org/forums/index.php?...96&hl=pazzo and Randy said They're damn nice looking though after taking a good hard look at my stock levers. But I don't know if I'd see the benefit of putting them on my bike for anything other than asthetics.
  18. Any shorter a ride and it wouldn't have leaked. I tried a 5 min ride but showed no signs of leaking after having cleaned that entire surface area. Speed was kept under 70mph during the ride and shifting was kept under 6k rpm. Having said that, I took the bike by my local Honda dealer and had the mechanic check out the leak/area. He said "that's a bad o-ring on the rear balancer" and he explained to me that the fix was easy and he has seen it on several honda's over the last couple of years but mostly 929's and 954's... said they don't get many birds in so he can't confirm whether it has been a problem with them or not(though I suspect not since I haven't seen any posts relating to this issue). He showed me how to replace the supposedly worn o-ring. Last night I pulled the bike apart a bit and replaced the o-ring with the new $5 Honda o-ring, reassembled the bike and took it for a ride. No leaks. This morning's 30 mile ride to work was a better test. No leak. $5 and 90 mins worth of time. That certainly would have been easier to replace if that had been the problem.
  19. Well after the first bout of oil leaks I tightened down all the bolts around the various components that were accessible and appeared to have a lot of oil on them... since that time I haven't had any oil leaking from those spots. This morning I came out and found a small spot of oil on the ground(about 2 inches diameter). Pulled off the right side panel and tracked the oil up the side of the engine to the rear balancer area. Has anyone had any problems with oil leaking from this area? I have looked through the service manual and don't see any gaskets associated with parts in this area so I'm not certain what it could be... O-ring? Here is a pic of the area where the leak appears to be coming from(not a great shot but will give you an idea.. it's behind the CCT)... in the second pic you can see, just under the black hose, the small bit of oil build up. This is what the service manual says about that area...(could it be the o-ring on the end of the balancer shaft? That is a very hard area to get any tools into... any advice how to get into there and possibly tighten those bolts up if that might be the problem or should I just take it to the dealer and have them do it?

    Chain Oilers

http://www.sport-touring.net/forums/showthread.php?t=85535 if anyone is interested in a used one....
  21. Fork springs/spacers can be done with the forks on the bike. it's really not difficult, and certainly worth the extra $, IMHO. I will most likely be doing the forks on the 97XX I'm restoring. I'll take pictures of the whole process, and do a nice write up with a "how to". Which aftermarket springs are you going to go with?
  22. So for those of us who want a better ride it's adviseable at this time to swap in new springs along with replacing the oil? Seems like it would be a pretty simple mod for only a couple hundred bucks... but then I think, if it's so easy, why hasn't everyone done it... :icon_think:
  23. So it seems that chaning the fork oil isn't so much a chore but what about chaning the springs while you have the forks off? Is it such a difficult task?
  24. I hit my goal of 215. Officially I'm down 34 pounds since the start of the year. My new goal is 210 and cut up a bit. I have NO clothes that fit anymore. What a fat fuck I was. Dammit... This has been a complete life style change for me. Exercise almost every day, eat lots of fruits and veggies, stopped drinking soda, don't eat my weekly bag of doritos or peanut butter M&Ms.... very low sugar intake, high protein intake. This week the wife has been out of town and I have eaten like shit... there is no food in the house so I have been ordering pizza and eating subway. Gawd, i can't wait til she comes home and starts taking care of my eating habits again.
