  1. That a relief, Eric. I'm still excited to see what kind of numbers you guys can manage when you get things figured out. Good luck, man.
  2. How 'bout these...? That's exactly what I want for the bird... Nobody loves us.

    Coolant

I was on that track at first, I just didn't have any tubing long enough. My first attempt was with a really long straw (Here, hold my beer), but after a few straws full I thought better of it and noticed the sprayer.

Thanks Dave! I wish I had read this before I sat out in the garage contemplating how to get it right. I came up with the same thing. I used a squirter from an extra bottle and used it to empty into an empty water bottle, then checked with the light. Everything is up to spec. Thanks again for all the help.

    Coolant

I'm heading to AR this week for a few days of Roads and Relaxation. I was trying to check my coolant level and God help me I couldn't see the coolant level for the life of me through that milky white plastic. I ended up filling it to where I could just see come coolant at the bottom of the filler neck. Does that sound like I overdid it?? Like I said, I can't see anything in that tank. Thanks in advance.
  6. Damn it, Eric, I was really pulling for you on this one. Cheers to you for going out on a limb and trying something new!

    GIVI mount

Are you guys talking about the wingrack or a third party mount?
  8. :icon_clap: Way to step out of the safe zone with the paint on the Bird! Are you bringing it to OzarXX?

Did you buy the Stebel wiring kit for the install?

    New Horn

It's on my birthday list. How loud is it compared to what you typically hear on the road (cars, trucks, etc)? Twistedthrottle.com described it as "Loud enough to convince other drivers that there's a derailed freight train barreling down on them." It sounds like an air horn from a semi truck. I honked it inside my shop and my ears are still ringing. Awesome. That is definitely staying on the B-day list, then. :icon_thumbsup:

  12. I can tell you for certain that the radar is not always right. I was pulled over in Illinois with the cruise control set on a nice flat stretch of interstate with the GPS reading 72 flat. The cop told me I was running 71 and that I had a headlight out. Not that it's THAT big a difference, but it's a difference none the less.
  13. According to Dr. Garmin, mine is off about 7% as well.
  14. I'm not using the stock header. I have a 4-1 header from a Two-Bros Shotgun system that I'm going to use. I would imagine I'm going to save half the weight of an after market system since (mid-pipe back) the mid-pipe will be half he length, as will the exhaust can. I guess I won't know for sure till I try.
  15. What's you getting at there ? Mass centralization = better handling. Well, I am working under the assumption that by using a header designed for the Bird (admittedly the 97-98 and I have an 03) that there won't be any power lost. If there is any loss after the bike is tuned on the dyno then I'm hoping it'll be made up for in the weight savings.
  16. That bike was carbureted and I didn't have the system on long enough to bother to rejet the bike. I would assume a slight HP increase could be gained but at the cost of unreal sound levels, I don't know if it would be worth it? Yeah, I bet it was loud as hell. Probably pretty cool for the first 10 minutes or so. If you ping K9XX he has that old system of jeffs, he might be willing to part with it, but I am not sure. He is hooked on the migs. That is ultimately the type of system that I would want in terms of center of gravity, but I don't think I would like THAT much noise coming out of the bike. Still, I'm tempted.
  17. Did you have someone bend a mid-pipe for you or did it just fit right? Where did you attach the can?

  19. Jeff, did you see any HP gain with that setup? Was it the stock header? Wanna build me one? That's about what I'm going for. Do you have any problems with your foot over the exhaust can?
  20. I didn't see one in your gallery. Nice pic of the X-11 though.
  21. I'll sum up.. I'm trying to build a super light, MotoGP style exhaust system. I have the header from a Two-Bros shotgun system. I'm interested in using this 240mm can from Micron I'm going to need X amount (5-8") of mid-pipe to get past the peg. The can weights 1.5 lbs. With it being this light, am I going to have to anchor the can somewhere other than the pipe? Any other thoughts?
  22. I run Silverstars in my truck and in my wife's car. They definitely make a difference but they don't even approach HID. I have considered running them in the bike, but have been to lazy to mess with it so far. I've heard that PIAA Superwhites are better, but I have no experience with them.
  23. I use a K&N 303 filter, easy off with a with a socket wrench, easy on with a torque wrench. If I remember correctly (at work right now), the XX manual calls for 22 lbs of torque on the drain bolt, 7 on the filter.

    GPS device

I ride with a Garmin Quest 1. The only problem I've ever had with it is occasionally it hiccups here in KC and diverts me to Gregory Blvd. This has happened about 5 times. Other than that, thumbs up. You can find the Quest 1 on ebay, I don't know what they're going for now.
