BBs, being small & round, will be very slow at cleaning.  And they're small enough to get into fittings/hoses so if you use them be sure they all get out.

Small is a realtive term, of course, but I get your drift. This is a nekkid tank, so no hoses or fittings to get into. Once I put them in, I will use air pressure to knock them around, and a magnet and vacuum for removal.

  2. Thanks for the help guys.

Why a month? A month shouldn't hurt it.

My bikes sit over winter with no problems. Are you considering Por-15 at all?

Or anything because it's only a month.

Well, by a month, I guess I mean up to 4 or 6. I get sidetracked easily and often. And yes, I thought about coating the inside, but jesus on a cracker, 85,000 miles, 20 years old, bike worth maybe $1200, why? I won’t be riding in 10 years. But tell me your experiences. I did it to a sportster about 30 years ago and do not remember anything about it.

XX tank? Was it rusty? If you etched it to remove rust add a little premix and slosh it around. Even without being full the vapors will protect it. Skip using ethanol and use pure gas.

Yes, on my ‘99. It had an awful lot of what I assume is varnish. I have the fuel pump off, and can reach in there. I got a big speaker magnet in there and it did come out coated with rust, so I assume the shit left inside is the remains of all the negative karma that has flowed from me while riding to be bottled up there. Maybe I should leave it there, like Dorian Gray’s portrait.

I vacuumed it out and am going to put a couple pounds of BBs in it to break up the rest.

  3. I am working on my tank right now. By right now I mean for the last few months. The interior had a bunch of shit in it that I have pretty much cleaned out. Thing is, it will prolly be at least a month before I get it installed and filled up.

Is there something innocuous and cheap I can coat the inside with to keep it patent? WD-40? Mineral oil? Thin motor oil?

So, the kid stuffed his XX out in the back shed at gramma's last fall. His Mom heard of a natural cure for rodent infestation.

Makes sense. There are no snakes in Ireland, so prolly no rodents either.

Learning to deal with temptation is a good process to go through.

Duh. It is a good process simply because dealing with temptations is just life. There are multiple ways of dealing with any specific temptation, and we are bombareded with temptations from the moment we wake until we take our dirt naps. We cannot ge5 away from temptations. Breathing, not a temptation. Pissing or not...... temptation.

Temptation equals choices, and fuck I have problems with the whole “choice v. choices”  deal.

  6. Huh, the filter that came out was the straight one. I KNOW it is original since I bought the bike at 2700 miles. Already bought the crooked one. Prolly the last one I'll get for the this iteration.

OK, KNOW may be a stretch, but pretty damned sure.

    XX?

if so, I would change the filter while there.  I the filter has a 180 degree fuel line on one end, then there is a cheap replacement at your flaps.  If metal 180, a replacement was $50.00 a couple year back

Way ahead of you there, buddy. Have one in my cart right now. $55 and shipping. About to order the assembly gasket also. Like I said, it is not rust, and easy to clean out. Air gun and BB’s ought to do the trick.

Might use Slappy’s warm milk recipe just in case.

I looked at many of the suggested battery’s.

    I finally chose a scorpion.

Mid range price (for these batteries), equalizer circuits, to balance the cells, and no specific charger required.

But you are correct. When you pick it up, you are sure that you have been ripped off.

So light.  And the XX spins real fast.

Time will tell how long it last.

I missed a early retirement package by being 11 days too young.   So I guess that I will be testing the shelf life function this year.

Craig, what model is it? I am about to get a new one.

  9. I’ve had the truck since ‘96 and no, the plugs haven’t been changed. I put 1 set of tires on it during that big Ford tire recall. A/C hasn’t worked in 20 years, both window regulators are shot, and no windshield wipers. It is used as a trash hauler mainly. Long bed free trucks are not cheap to come by, so I owe it to her to tune her up.

    I'll take a set!

    I'll PM you my info.

I have been putting off changing plugs, wires, and rotor cap. Have a feeling that after 25 years and 114K miles I shouldn’t put it off any longer and it will not get any easier. Probably bought parts twice and just forgot.

Will try to get it out the next few days.
