Actual 175 miles or on odometer ?

Odometer. I believe the bike has a speedo healer, would that make a difference?

So what's the most you guys are getting back into the tank when bone dry?  And those two pockets on either side at the bottom, is that considered unusable?

I know for a FACT (personal experience) that when the bike runs bone dry, it can be laid down to the ground and righted and it will go a little further.

Tomorrow I will tell you which side.

  2. I got one dead-on reading riding up to NeXXt earlier this month. 99 FI with a PC, don’t know the settings, otherwise stock. One rider with moderate baggage weight. 91 octane ethanol-free. Straight interstate, 75-90 mph, no stops. 36.7 mpg.

Oh, and that was over 175 miles. Light came on then, and I was very close to a station.

Yes...the tools made from the tears of Chuck Norris and unobtainium.  Not exactly positive marketing.  No complaints on quality but cost is another matter.

Normally, when a website is trying to sell a product, they have pages showing the product, side by side comparisons to OEM equipment, etc., and then there’s the sales section.  If they want to rely on someone getting their product and selling it to their friends by word of mouth, fine...but they should be marketing on their own website.  That’s not a huge investment.

I contacted these people about application on the RS.  They don’t know if it will or won’t fit as they don’t have a definitive chart.  Sometimes some “adaptation” is needed on an install, sometimes not.  At least they were honest on this.  So, unless another RS owner has done it, the only smart move is go to a show where they are doing installs and let them have a go.  I can’t know when buying if it will be worth the money and hassle.

Has this come out since you talked to them?

I have been looking for this product for years. Glass cleaner in a spill-proof container that is travel sized. I had to buy a case off Amazon, but it is pretty cheap per can, and once you stuff one in each vehicle, give a few away, stash a few for later, and huff the gas out of a couple they go quick.

I gave some away at NeXXt, how has you guys’ experience been so far?

I did HID high and low beam.  I liked it but with one two caveat(s)...high beam took time to reach full brightness (noticeable at night), so if I anticipated needing the high beam, I made sure to cycle it on so the ballast would reach full charge and retain much of it when it was off.

    AND,

The high beam now cannot be modulated. A favorite of mine.

Tom, if you are dicking around with your illumination, this would be a good time to look into a modulator setup. Easy to install, reliable (mine was going on 60K on stock bulb), and other drivers notice you.

  6. OK, I have had Zero’s bike for a little over a year now, pit somewhere like 7K miles on it, and have always been going

”OH, SHIT, gotta flip the fan switch on, it’s almost on hot”

But every once in a while, the fucker cut on by itself. WTF.

So today, in the sweltering heat, and I mean it is hot and humid, I tested it out.

Looks like it is working. Heated up, fan cut on.

Cut on shop fan while running, fan cuts off. Cut the shop fan on, bike fan cuts on.

Ran it a few cycles, and I think we are all good.

I think the gauge is off. I am a genius. If any of your bikes are working, but you think it isn’t, give me a shout. I think I can help.

My bike operates at 176 to 180 degrees .  it has since new.

Temps went up about 2 degrees when I switched from dino oil to synthetic.  But still below 180, on days that are cool enough for the thermostat to regulate.  If air temp is too high for the cooling system, then you will be running hotter, thermostat or no.

Coolant change with Honda coolant won't hurt, and may help.  Stay away from DEX.

Evans waterless will prevent over boiling, but heat has to leave the bike, no matter what coolant.

Many, many years ago , there was a post showing a waterpump that had been destroyed by silicate based coolant.  Phillip?

I have had car flow rates tested at a shop years ago. It was done with a in line flow meter.

I don't know if there is a flow meter for bikes.

    Nope, bot me.

If avaiable, try a couple of tanks of non ethanol gas and check mileage.

My 01. Gets much better mileage (2-3 mpg)  on good old gas.

As posted by others, my vacuum lines were cracking, and caused some problems too.

Whether or not that fixes your problem, Craig is spot-on about the fuel increase. I just checked the Charlotte area on pure-gas.org (www.pure-gas.org) and there are a shit-bucket load of stations around there. No need for premium.

BTW, the gauges are very bike specific. My “new” bird’s readings vary drastically from my old one. Both 1999 FI’s. Expect 220 miles per tank, and thank Allah if you do better.

The blended gas has not been kind to your fuel lines, replacement is easy enough.

I have been living that dream too.

Kirsten has a 1993 Lebaron, needs all front end replaced.  Chris just returned from afganistan. He has never owned a car. Both are looking.

I get up some morning with only a bike to ride.

I have spent many a long night rebuilding a childs, or my own car to get to school.

I even put a ring gear on backwards once.  Old VW and porsche would let you do that.

Drove a 356 to school for a week with one forward gear.

My first car was a 1955 Triumph TR2. Shortly after being given to me by my older brother the starter went out. No problem. I was 18 and was living in the Mississippi delta. Flat land, convertible, just pushed the fucker up to speed, jumped in, and I was off to the races. i was a real cool dude back then. All the popular girls wanted a piece of me.

Cars now have security latches on the fuel doors.

Mostly true, but a couple of our fleet cars now have a door that you just push to open, and when it does, the gas cap is attached to it and the fueling pipe is ready to roll.

    Weird, and I was surprised.

Just WOW!  That sounds like German engineering.

Wait a minute..... we don’t have to tipurn our jap bikes sideways, do we? I hate people who stereotype.

Curious why you remove it so frequently that the two jacks is an issue.

It is mounted on a magnetic base for ease in removal. The unit is mounted high and is very visible. That lends itself to sticky fingers. I

have used one for years and it would require less fiddling when I get off the bike. The telephone jack in particular is more difficult to remove since it has that tiny tab on it.

I have a screamer unit on the bike and it requires being connected via the audio jack. As much as anything, I hate the lack of feng shui exhibited by the designer.

Absolutely, at the short distances we're talking about.  (Yes, about 6 inches which isn’t really that short, I have never heard a complaint)You really want stranded wire, which is the normal type used in patch cables, not the solid that's used in walls. ( I can do that) If you want some connectors and shit I can send you some, but then you would need tools.  (My pharmacy tech is set up with tools, I think, I will ax him first so as not to trouble you) So I'm not sure what you're doing, but if you think you can draw it out I can make it and mail it.

Oh, and you might want shielded to prevent noise, maybe.  Might not matter. (I can get shielded)

Stop breaking the fucking law and you won't need the damn thing!

Not gonna happen. That unit has saved me so much money it is stupid. The bird is just so awesomely overpowered these little 35-40 mph roads are almost impossible to ride on responsibly.

  14. My Beltronics RD has a serious design flaw. It uses a 4 wire phone jack for power and I guess other stuff, then it has a mono speaker jack. I have always thought this is retarded, there are 2 things to unplug when removing it.

If I could put the two in a single jack, like maybe a CAT-5 thing a ma jig, and have it as sort of a pigtail, I could more easliy unhook it.

A CAT 5 wire should easily be the right-ish amp/current/relgious preference to do this, right?

Thinking about it critically makes my head hurt, but it seems loke it should work, right?
