  1. That really looks great, Brett.

Now, all you need is an area rug so the dogs can arrange themselves strategically under your feet where you'll be sure to trip and kill yourself when you try to pry yourself out of the couch.

    :icon_biggrin:

  2. Don't be afraid of carbs. If you are going to eat them first thing in the morning is the best time. If you want some texture/fiber and not many carbs throw in some milled flax seeds.

Also your son should be eating like a horse and lifting really heavy weights. Right now he is a testosterone factory. If he drinks a gallon of milk a day (google Mark Ripptoe Starting Strength) and lifts heavy weights he will blow up. His high metabolism should help keep him from getting fat but he should still be able to build muscle if he eats enough. When guys get to be my age their test levels go down and its harder to pack on the muscle.

He read this and went to work. His eyes did bug out a little over the gallon o'milk a day part.

Hey Mikey, he liked it. :)

He says less PB and more blueberries and ice next time. Thanks!

  3. My standard shake:

    1/2 - 3/4 cup cottage cheese

    1/2 cut oats

1/2 cup frozen blueberries (Ive tried fresh one and like frozen better)

    1 - 2 scoops chocolate protein powder

a couple of cubes of ice

You can also toss in a couple tablespoons of smooth pb if you need extra cals or just need more flavor.

The cottage cheese is nice and bland and has a way better protein to carb ratio than yogurt. I have the nutrition info on it around here somewhere.

I just figured I'd share with the 3 or 4 other people that actually click on this section.

    Ooh, thanks!

Haha. Let me know if you like it. Some people are put off by the cottage cheese.

I have no problem with cottage cheese, except that I happen to be out of it at the moment. :icon_wink:

Found this in an old thread:
    The shake is roughly:

    410cal, 24g carb, 42g prot, 3g fiber, 18g fat, 7g s fat

For less (pretty much zero) fat just lose the PB.

I guess thats when I was putting pb in them on a regular basis. I generall don't any more.

OK I just pulled up my diet tracker from back when I was keeping track and found this:

Without the pb and with the oats:

    323cal, 30.9g carb, 38.9g protein, 4g fiber, 6g fat, 2.5g sat fat

Wow, way too many carbs for me. I'll tone down the oats, use low-fat cottage cheese and definitely no peanut butter.

I did pass it along as is to my son who is actively trying to add mass right now. He's built up his muscles a teensy bit lately from starting a gym routine and diet modification, but I haven't yet burst his little bubble that as a High School Senior stick figure, it's really not possible for him to build much mass for close to the next ten years. He can dream. :icon_twisted:

He liked the looks of the shake ingredients. :icon_biggrin:

  5. Eat some carbs! Good ones

+1 Sounds like you need another glycemic reset. Eat some good carbs for a few days and go back to phase 1 for 7-10 days. That will get you back into ketosis and burning fat again. Then go back into phase 2, eat fewer/better carbs then you did the first time around and exercise more. I would include weight training along with the cardio you are already doing.

That's really funny combined with your avatar. :icon_biggrin:

  6. I was looking at your photos and noticed you have the same issue I have, very high ceilings (2 stories high)

What did you do to paint them? Contract it out? I have thought of renting a scissors lift ( I have double door entry) that is probably the only way I could access the top.

A scissors lift never occurred to me. For some time, I pondered having to paint those walls and ceiling with a very long pole and it just seemed beyond me. I have physical restrictions which helped rationalize just hiring someone to do it. I did paint my kids' rooms myself years ago, but this time someone else did it all. They used the long pole and a ladder. That ceiling looked like a total bitch to paint. Watching them do it confirmed it was money well-spent. ;)

Hey, where's Todd with my "Mmm, yellow"? I could get huffy. :icon_mad:

  7. I have Santos Mahogany engineered hardwood in my house. I tried to find some photos but this is all I could come up with. I'm pretty sure I have more so I'll scout around a bit, or take more shots if you're interested.

The floors were installed 2½ years ago in most of the downstairs rooms. I couldn't afford to also do the living room at the time so that was installed the following year. Laminates were considered, but I'd heard they were noisy and with the high ceiling in the entry way and living room, I was afraid of that. Also, I thought lighter to medium laminates looked better, but the darker ones looked too fake for me. I'm sure that's been improved even since I did it.

The floors have scratched quite a bit from the dogs' nails, but and I've noticed a bit of a film that's built up, even with using the Bona wood floor cleaner which is the one which is most recommended.

That being said, I still love my floors.

(Ignore the ugly pink carpet. I hope to replace that when possible, but one project at a time. :icon_wink: )

  8. Go ahead and have one.

    Take you're pick from below...

    IPB Image

Just remember one thing. You have to take out every extra calorie you put in.

That would be like about a 5 mile run after one of those donuts.

    -------------------------------------

+1 on the Apple Fritter just the same. Those are worth the run IMB.

Oh man, I hate you, Steve. I'm suddenly dying for a donut. :icon_mad:

A chart. He has to post a chart. :icon_rolleyes:

    :icon_wink:

I want this one: IPB Image

  9. :icon_think: I have never seen "Honda" publish the Horsepower for the XX, has anyone else? :icon_pray:

Amazing that a clueless, airheaded female such as myself had no problem finding an affirmative, specific answer with barely any typing.

    Google is our friend.

Motorcyce.com had it on their dyno at 135.7hp at the rear wheel and 79ft-lbs torque at the rear wheel. Cycleworld har it at 138rwhp and 80.9ft-lbs torque.

These are at the rear wheel so figure 155hp at the crank and about 92 ft-lbs at the crank as well.

    Hope this helps,

    James :icon_lol:

Honda-claimed, I believe was the actual question.

  10. I have a girlfriend in WA with a mole infiltration. I e-mailed a link to this thread and this is what I got back:

I tried the gum but didn't get the desired results (and I've tried just about EVERYTHING). The one thing I haven't tried is my shotgun, but there are so many large rocks in the dirt around here, I'm afraid the ricochet action would end up shooting me instead of the %$#@! mole.

Tell your friends that moles can be stunned to death. It's TRUE! One day, I had  stomped down the mole tunnels in my front yard and was standing there with a shovel and bucket, waiting for the earth to move (heh!). When it finally did, I quickly took a big scoop of earth and dumped it and the mole into the bucket. The mole was completely dead. Wasn't damaged in any way, it was just dead. I figured I must have given him a heart attack.

I mentioned this to a clerk at a local gardening center, and she confirmed that moles can be stunned to death. Another method is to use your shovel to whang away at the ground (or even better, at a big rock) near the tunnel. Provided you're whanging away at a spot right over the mole, the shock waves will often short circuit their wiring somehow and they croak.

Short of killing the little bastards, a 10-1 mixture of blood meal and cayenne pepper dumped in their tunnels sends them scurrying for new digs (it's also amazing on lawns - the nitrogen in the blood meal makes grass grow lush and green). Unfortunately, you can never be sure which direction they're going to run - back toward the front lawn, or over the property line into your neighbors' yard.  ;)

  11. Yeah, they're great.

The only issue is not being able to throw in one more thing once the cycle has begun.

I do that all time so I couldn't get a front loading washer. I hear they're fabulous though.

    :D

  12. Let me know if I can help with any thoughts... My office is very close to you.

    Thanks Steve!

I did go to Conejo Hardwood on La Baya a couple of times to look at stuff. I picked a couplef things just to get an idea and asked for someone to come give me an estimate. They never called to set it up! After a week, I called again and left my name and number once more. Still no call. I guess they aren't hurting for business. :(

There's apparently a Lowe's out in Ventura, though.

  13. Thanks Rick!

I'm not sure there's even a Lowe's anywhere near us, but I'll check. I was going to a local small business hardood/stone flooring place.

We do have Home Depot. Maybe I'll run out there and look.

    :D

  14. Can you believe I started this thread and then forgot to come back and check responses? Good Pam.

Yup. I put one in my house (if my site was back up I would post a pic) not only did it turn out very nice, it was WAY more durable than real hardwood!

Any pics you could post here or PM?

if you have kids or/and animals.... Laminate is the only way.

My kids are old enough not to be an issue, but I do have big dogs with nails. I was actually worried about the noise they would make on laminate floors, not to mention possible scratching. I know they are much louder.

Even the youngest kid, at 13, says he can tell the difference between the laminate and hardwood. He votes for wood. :?

Should I raid his piggy bank to make up the difference in $$ for wood?

  15. I know laminates are cheaper and extremely easy to clean, but I love the look of hardwood floors. Does anyone really think a laminate floor looks like real hardwood?

Anyone have experience with the pros and cons of either or both?

  16. You need a bigger bar area!

    The kitchen is beautiful!

Would cedar in a bathroom eventually warp from the moisture? I don't know, I'm just asking.

It's too bad you have to scrap the iron tub. The fiberglass ones I have got cracks and seem more difficult to clean. I prefer the iron from a practical standpoint.

I have an oversized jacuzzi tub in my bathroom which cracked. Now I'm afraid to use it so it won't leak (again) into the kitchen ceiling below, and I can't afford to replace it. I hear the jacuzzi jets can leak, but I also know there's a crack in the bottom of the tub.

I've seen black toilets and sinks.

Bronze mirrors = gay? Um, yeah. I'd wonder about a guy whose home I was visiting if I knew he designed that himself.

But that's just my opinion. YMMV

  17. Just seeing this post now:

    What works for me:

Back and biceps about every 4th day

Chest and triceps about every 4th day.

Shoulders thrown in with one of the above days depending on when I have the most time. You're a guy so you'll want to do a lot more shoulders than I bother with.

Leg Day- this consists of working everything from glutes to calves. I like to do this twice a week if possible.

Abs- two to three times a week

Cardio- four times a week - 35 to 40 minutes on the eliptical machine. Changing the machine, or whatever you decide to do for cardiovascular exercise, every 3 weeks is better, I'm just limited because of back issues.

It's usually 3 days in a row of working out and one day off, although I may just go in to do cardio and abs. I sometimes won't work out the entire weekend, but ideally I can get in one of the days.

Of course, I haven't now worked out for 5 weeks since I discovered a herniated a disc in my back and it's making me very cranky! I'm just waiting to start some rehab.

A "skull crusher" is a triceps exercize done with a barbell or an ez-curl bar.

Huh. My friends call those Head-bangers. :)

So, 2equis, how's the exercise going?

You can't just add a file extension to something and have it work. As I said, if it doesn't already have that file extension, there's internal software at work on your hosting website....specifically to prevent automatic linking......which drives up bandwidth.

Thank you for your help. I guess I'll just try finding a different host.

It's so weird how Mike (99Birdman) used Snapfish to host his photos that are in his profile, but using the exact same links, he can't get them to show up in PMs. Perhaps the newer firewall on Geckobox has something to do with it.

I may ask for one of those Gmail accounts with the free storage and try that.
