  2. I seem to be having trouble posting pics. (New at this, and handicapped on a Mac). http://www.dotphoto.com/MemViewImage.asp?AID=1715947&IID=54161250http://www.dotphoto.com/MemViewImage.asp?AID=1715947&IID=54161257
  3. You're right. I do have the MotoTek undertail. I didn't realize that because the only site I've ever seen showing this is Streetbodies. I guess they're just distributors. Since I got mine used, their was no box or label. Yeah, the instructions are useless, but I finished mine today. Probably about 6-8 total hours. I bought some 3/8" strip adhesive foam at Pep Boys and lined the bottom edge of the tailpiece where the undertail makes contact. This made the fit more snug, quiet, and hopefully water resistant. I remembered to read Blackbird service manual to learn about the electrical in the tail section. After soaking that in, I got all the wiring right on the first try! While I was in there, I even hid a couple of blue led lights inside the tailpiece, so that a faint blue light glows out of the grab holes at night. It looks pretty bad ass, especially combined with the yellow led running lights in the tail. I'm going to try to get some pics soon.
  4. Thanks, good to know. I thought maybe "MotoBeagle" has this undertail installed. Do I have the wrong person? Somebody here on this forum has posted pictures of their bike with the undertail.
  5. I got it off of Ebay, but I was already familiar with what I was buying. Here's the company that distributes them: http://www.exoticsportbike.com/street_bodies.htm scroll down and you'll see the bird. I decided to just figure out the installation on my own. Got a lot done last night, and will possibly finish tonight. Looking good!

  7. I will... if I ever get the damn thing on! Got a cool hugger to go with it too!
  8. Hey all. If anybody out there has the Streetbodies undertail (the one with the built-in led brake and marker lights). I just bought one used (no instructions) and have no idea how to approach the wiring. I don't want to just experiment, because I don't know how sensitive these LEDs are, and don't want to blow them out. I tried to contact the people who distribute this product new, but they haven't been alot of help. Do you still have the instructions? If not, can you describe the wiring procedure for the brake light? The marker lights seem pretty self-explanatory. The brake light seems to have a total of 10 wires coming out of it. (Dual LEDs). 5 on each side. 3 black, 1 red, and 1 white. I think 1 black is ground, (attach to frame?) and I imagine red goes to red and white goes to white, but that leaves me with 2 extra black wires per side. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Jim
  9. I've got a Yuasa in my 99. I'm told these are great batteries. But, you know, it's not like they do tricks or anything. They either start your bike or they don't. The Yuasas are pretty pricey, but if they last longer and are more reliable, they might be worth it.
  10. I went to Met-All.com and saw that their aluminum cleaner is water based and is purported to clean "water stains." I wonder if this will work at least on the silver aluminum parts.
  11. I have alot of staining on the Black visible sections of frame, as well as silver aluminum peices like footpegs, shin gaurds, levers etc... The stains look like someone spilled liquid on these parts, and it got baked into the metal. Is Mothers a good gentle approach? Or will that screw up the black powdercoat? I'm not trying to shine, just clean these waterspot stains off. These stains are too deep for the usual Pro Honda and elbow grease that I employ over the rest of the bike. Anybody else deal with a cleaning job like this? Any success? Jim
  12. Hey gang, I just wanted to report that my new CCT came in today and I just finished installing it. Holy shit! That was easy. All of my unexplained little noises are completely gone! I wanted to cry! Just so you know, I didn't end up getting the X-11. I just got the current Honda OEM for the BB. I didn't have to remove my fairing (just loosened it and propped a roll of masking tape in between the inside of the fairing and the frame towards the front of the bike to keep the fairing out of my way). Getting the hexnuts out of the original CCT was a little tough. Not a lot of room to negotiate, and years of heat, pressure, and elements get those things stuck pretty tight. My hint to anyone who is planning to do this and never has before: If you don't own a vice, take the top end bolt off of the old CCT BEFORE you remove it. You'll need to reuse this one bolt and washer with the new CCT. (Honda does not send this bolt with new replacement CCTs). If you take the old CCT out and then try to remove the bolt, it's kind of hard to get a good enough grip on. IMHO Anyway, I'm very pleased with the results, and only hope it lasts a while.
  13. You guys are right. My bike was very sloppy looking when I bought it used. I don't think the original owner EVER cleaned it. That would probably explain why one of the forks is leaking with such low miles. I keep my bike spotless, but I fear I'm too late because it is indeed seeping oil. I'm getting it fixed tomorrow so it won't progress any further. I'm gonna let somebody else do it because I don't feel confident enough yet to take my own forks apart.
  14. I should add, that when I bought my bike used about a month ago, it was absolutely filthy from top to bottom. Dirt, grime and god knows what was everywhere. It cleaned up nicely and people who see it now can't believe it's 5 years old. My point is that I may easily have missed a spot on the forks while cleaning it up.
  15. So, not being the most mechanically inclined, I was getting the oil changed in my Bird last week. I went to a new shop here in town for the first time cause they're right by my house and I thought I'd give them a try. After the guy was finishing up my oil change (he was actually polishing the bike up for me!), I was about the go pay, and the guy said "ohh man, your fork seals are blown." He showed me a little spot of muck below one of the seals, and rubbed his finger through it and said "see there." I thought "oh shit" we've gotta fix that. He gave me a quote of about $200.00 for the job. It was the end of the day so I told him I'd bring it in the following Monday. Well, I've never noticed any performance issues with my suspension. In fact, my forks feel great to me. Just the right amount of stiffness for handling, and never dive. I decided to clean the little patch of muck off the fork and continue riding over the weekend then check to see if any more muck accumulates. It didn't. Clean as a whistle. Not having a history with this mechanic, I was wondering if there are any other signs or things to check to know if I truly have a problem with my seals. My 99 Bird only has about 7,500 miles on it.
  16. Thanks for the info Suf Daddy! You've gone and scarred the crap out of me about that R/R stuff. Now I've got to go check mine. If I decide that mine needs to be changed, do you know what the technical specs are for an R/R in a '99 Bird? I'd love to find a good replacement (not Honda of course) that is about the same size so I won't have to move any other components around (I'm anal that way).
  17. Don't worry, I don't make a habit of revving the engine cold. I only did it for researching this sound. I hope you're right about the clutch sound. I did PM Chester, and he said that the BB clutch was bulletproof, and shouldn't be making any sounds like that. Thus my frustration. I can certainly live with the sound (being that it's minor), just as long as I know nothing is being mashed around in there. I'm gonna try and hook up with Chester here in LV. He said he would take a listen. Thanks for all the feedback guys! Jim
  18. Also, I just had an oil change about 500 miles ago.
  19. Okay, upon further investigation: This morning I confirmed that the noise only happens at idle when first started. I'm in Las Vegas, and it's currently in the high 70's in the mornings (5:30 am). So, I don't think temp is an issue here. The noise definitely goes away when I pull in the clutch, but it makes a slight chain-knocking kinda sound when I rev the engine hard (in neutral, on the side stand) if the bike isn't warmed up yet. It really does remind me of that sound like when you're on a roller coaster, and you get to the bottom of a big hill, when the chain on the track first makes contact with your car and starts to pull you up. (But of course, it's not THAT loud). For a split second there is that grabbing sound. Again, this sound does NOT happen at 4k. CCTs are pretty inexpensive and seem relatively easy to replace, so I'll definitely check into an X-11, but I just wonder what else?
  20. Thanks guys, I was just worried because the bike I bought (from a dealer) had apparently sat in their store for a year without being sold (or cleaned, but that's another story). They also made me a killer deal on it, like they really wanted to get rid of it. ( I live in Las Vegas, and if it's not a Harley, or a Gixxer, it doesn't sell). I was concerned that something might be wrong with it, and in a dealer situation you don't get a test ride. Luckily for me, she runs like a top! The salesman mentioned to me at one point about the counter-balances in the Blackbird, and that you'll hear it rattle some because it had "high-performance cams." I remember wondering if he was full of shit and trying to explain away the noise I would soon be hearing from the bike after they got my money. It's good to know that this is a normal thing for the bike. Thanks again! Jim
  21. Why yes, I think it does stop then. Uh oh?
  22. Hi all, I just bought my first BB a couple of weeks ago. ('99 stock). Let me start by saying I love this bike! I know that the cct thread is pretty popular in this forum, but just wanted to ask about my particular situation anyway. My bike has that "marbles in the engine" sound when I first start it up. It's usually gone in 5-10 seconds though, and I've never noticed any rattle or marble sound while riding. Is this a first warning sign of a bad cct, or is this the normal process of the cct doing its job? It sure is an embarassing sound when you start it up to show off to a friend! Just wondering Jim
