  1. My stock chain and rear sprocket lasted 30,000 miles. I replaced the front sprocket every 10.000 miles. The stock chain and sprockets are very good quality unlike alot of other bikes. :icon_clap:
  2. I have a JT front and putting a rear on and a new chain next week. I got them from Dennis Kirk which is Parts Unlimited. Warchilds right about the chain noise, it is louder but I wear earplugs anyway. I put two stock fronts on to one stock rear sprocket. The rear stock sprocket still is decent for 30k miles we'll see how long the JT's last. The stock fronts are good for 10k or more it seems.

    Footpeg mod!

The ones I used are from Honda Direct Line. The part # is KUR 7945. They have them listed for $53.95 with free shipping. I don't know if the pegs with seperate adapters are the same.

Heres some pics if it works. peg_2.bmp
  5. I keep a tire plug kit and a Blackburn air stick under the seat at all times but thats all I've taken on trips other then the stock tool kit and some duct tape, tie wraps, fuses, rags and chain lube.
  6. I'm getting mine. I just used up a rear Strada and I got 8400 miles out of it, but that was mostly touring miles and I kept the air pressures up. I like it better then the BT 20 or any other tire I've had. The most I got out of anything else was 3400 miles. That includes the Metz z6. That form printed up 160 on mine too but I guess it doesn't matter cause they debited my card and all.
  7. Time for a new chain soon and I was wondering about the durability of the Afam srockets compared to stock. Does the undampened front cause any vibration of just some noise. The DID ZVM with the Afam sprockets is $199 if they'll last as good as the stockers I'm going to go with that.
  8. I have the Fenda Extenda and it does help protect the radiator some. I have a half mile of dirt driveway to my house and when it's muddy I used to have a mud streak up to the top of the radiator now it's only on the bottom part. Don't know about the ducktail but the stock rear fender seems to work well enough.

    Footpeg mod!

I changed the footpegs on the Bird to a set of Kuryakyn Dually Iso pegs that fit a Valkyrie and a GL 1500 Goldwing. I got them from Honda Direct Line. I think they were $60 bucks with shipping. In order to do this You need to shave the inside of the mounting brackets on the Bird slightly as the peg mounts on the Kuryakyn pegs are almost the same width as the space on the bird. Then you need to make a set of bolsters which fit inside the peg mounts as The Kuryakyn's flop down too far. A piece of 5/8 square or key stock will work fine. Cut it so it sticks out far enough to keep the pegs level, then angle the top part so the pegs can still fold up. I would cut this slightly longer then you need, insert it into the mount and then drill a hole in it for the pins to mount the pegs. Then you can grind off or cut it to get it the right length, then angle the top. You can use the stock pins to mount them but not the springs and can put the stockers back on if you choose to. These pegs clear the kickstand and the rear brake arm and they will lower your feet at least an inch and move your feet forward some. You basically have like mini floorboards so you can move your leg position alot on long rides. The nice thing is once you get the mounts right Kuryakyn makes about eight different kinds of pegs you can use. I'm ordering a set of Mini-Pilot pegs also. As far as clearence goes it looks like you will scrape your cans about the same time the pegs hit the ground. I have some pics but no clue how to post them so if someone will help me out I'll email you the pics to post here. I did this after the winter and have had them on for 10k miles with no trouble. I wanted to test em' good before I posted about it. These are really much more comfortable then stock and work better then the Buell pegs which I tried also.
  10. I tried Mobil 15 40 and noticed I got worse gas mileage, more clutch noise during warmup. I use Amsoil 10 40 synthetic. It seems the best of all the oils I tried.
  11. What's wrong with being a middle age drunken pervert? It works for me. I even help young, misguided, squids fix thier bikes at times. Occasionaly, I give them riding lessons too. Except when they act like insulting fuckwads.
  12. I just changed my fluids also. You may want to try gravity bleeding that line. I didn't let the master cylinders go dry though. I just kept adding fluid and letting it piss out till it flushed the old fluid. Probably not as good as sucking it all out but it doesn't seem to have any air in the system.
  13. Thanks - I figured you didn"t need to wind it to take it off but I wanted to be sure. Mine's not too noisy yet as the bikes only got 16k on it but I thought I'd change it while I had the bodywork off for some maintainence work.
  14. I have a new CCT to install. The manual says to make the key tool and use it to remove the old one. Do you need to do this if your installing a new one. I think I read on here not to take the key out of the new one before you install it. I could use that if you can remove it from the new one. Any advice. :?:
