  1. I've got a '99 with a PC2 and 38k on it. It used to belong to Vern (xrated). Great bike, has been well taken care of. But lately, the last month I'd say, I keep getting the FI light with more and more regularity, especially when I ride in the rain. Which would make me suspect a connection or wire. The code is always 25, the knock sensor. I've checked the connections from the PC2 to the ECU, I've done the '99-'00 wiring loom fix, I've left the neg cable off the battery for 15 minutes. The FI light comes after about 10-15 minutes of running. I can feel it effect the performance of the bike. It's a noticeable loss of power when your cruising along at a steady throttle. Anybody have any suggestions as to what I should try next? I'm pretty handy and do all my own maintainence, so I'm willing to give most any idea a try. Is there some wiring I should check, or is it the sensor and I should just replace it? I've also downloaded the manual but I haven't found the sensor yet. I usually burn 87 octane and haven't tried any higher grade to see what that would do. Thanks in advance for the help. UPDATE: I found the knock sensor location on the engine under the gas tank. Details are on page 40 of chapter 1 in the manual, if anyone else is interested. Also found part # and price for new one from Ron Ayers.[attachmentid=2922]
  2. I couldn't get the vista to fit well, the NEP went on like a glove and works well.
  3. That's true, but the SUV oil shifted the same as the Mobil 1 moto 10-40, so my comparison was based on how both oils felt in the tranny to me compared with the Repsol.
  4. Here's where I bought the stuff, looks like the price has gone up a little since I got mine. Repsol page at Cycledepot
  5. I've got about 40 miles on it and it shifts even better than the Mobil 1 SUV 5-30 I had in there. I normally run the Mobil 1 moto oil from autozone. It's $32 plus some change and this was $37 shipped to me plus I got a free Nicky H. t-shirt. A friend of mine has a one of a kind Repsol CBR 1000 and he uses Repsol oil in it. Some chemical, melyndium? (sp) that he claims Honda clutches don't care for. I'm not sure about that but for $5 bucks more and a free T, I thought I'd try it. Mobil 1 is a clear honey color, this repsol stuff was like an unfiltered honey color, just a little cloudy. Engine seems a little quieter and the 1st to 2nd shift would get difficult when the bike was hot with the SUV oil. Just a little more clunky. Not with this stuff, I sat in traffic for a while and the motor got hot. The repsol stuff was very smooth from 1st to 2nd. We'll see how it does in a few thousand miles.
  6. C'mon guys, the secret to going faster is to chrome more parts, everybody knows that. I think I speak for most when we say we want pictures from FUXXT. For Sale: clean 1999 Honda CBR 1100xx with the slower MIGS dual exhaust and PCII WTB: clean 2002 Honda CBR 1100xx with 2 Bros exhaust and PCII (will consider Euro model too)
  7. I've been riding in the rain a lot lately and decided to give the Bird some much needed TLC. I removed the L/R cowls and noticed a build-up of grime and dirt clogging the fins on the rad. About a half inch wide on both sides where the cowls send airflow to the rad. I was surprised, I'd never seen that before, but I've only had the XX for a year. I had noticed on hot days, 90F plus, that the temp gauge was going higher than normal and was going to change the coolant. So I grabbed the Purple Power grease/grime cleaner, sprayed it on and used an old tooth brush to loosen it up, then sprayed the stuff off with the hose. Just an FYI, check you radiator and I also got the oil cooler element while I was in there too. There were quite a few dead bugs, moths, etc on that 'cuz it get a more direct shot of airlow.
  8. just had my new tire put on today, take all the spacers out but leave the discs on, you want them to be balanced too with the rest of the tire.
  9. I've got the Avon combo on my BB now and have notice only a little slippage getting a drive out of the corners. They've been right to the edge, (not as often as I'd like, the middle is starting to flatin' out) so I've been happy with them. I used to own a ZX-11, similar to the BB in weight and hp and the combo that was sweet on that bike was the Bridgestone BT-010 in the front and BT-020 in the rear. Has anybody ever tried that combo on the Bird?
  10. when it gets dirty I touch it up with some silver spray paint. Makes it look brand new. Be careful of the overspray though and make sure it's dry before you take off. I'm thinking about trying gold spray paint next for the bling bling look. Or maybe chrome paint.....
  11. Hey Techno and KA, I thought my fuel light was broken when I got my 99 Bird but it works. That needle gets below the line quite a ways before the light starts to flicker. When it glows at a steady speed, I've got 30-40 miles left. I usually reset my trip meter so I don't run out. Of course I won't get into why I reset now.
  12. thanks Rockme, I was sure it was there cuz I sure couldn't find a filter in the fuel line before the FI. Are there any alternatives for replacement besides OEM? thanks for the help
  13. I did a search for fuel filter and there's not alot of info to be found. I'm afairly new owner of a 99 Bird. Iwas wondering where the filter is and what are the options for aftermarket replacements. ie, can you get them at Advance or NAPA instead of paying top dollar at Honda for the the same thing? Thanks. Thanks for the help, I sure enjoy this site, lotta good information and alot of crazy people. The pictures and commentary from MiXXT, Mega, etc are great entertainment.
  14. are the pan designs, bolt patterns, etc, the same for all birds, or did Honda change some things over the years? For example, will a pan from a 2000 model fit on a 98?
