  1. Hello Good People, I too have experienced my XX knocking at idle. I know that my CCT needs replacing because of the infamous "MARBLE" sounds. I have noticed for the last 15 to 20Kmi a vibration that would start around 5k and kinda go away around 6k but now it seems to hang around after 6k. My thoughts were the counterbalancer train had gotten out of tolerance. I am gonna replace the CCT and see what my girl does after that. I also have an 06' CBR 1k that has a vibration that starts around 6k but no knocking, just ticking when cold.
  2. I forgot to mention that my MPG's are around 30 is that about right for a carbbed bird?? The reason I asked this is, if I go any richer won't I lose some more of my MPG?? ( not that is a deciding factor on whether or not I will ride but I thought she would get better than 30).
  3. That weekend is better for me to be there. I'll look for you then.
  4. Is that weekend bigger than King of the Hill?? I heard there are riders from all over and soooo many women on that weekend. You ought to check it out.
  5. Thanks for the reply Demon. I'm still trying to get there, want to ride with a fellow XXer  peace out.
  6. Yes she is carbbed 97' vintage and fast ass BLACK. I noticed when I had the header off before that 1&2 exhaust ports were sooty black and 3&4 were ashy grey color. Any comments as far as 2 Bros. is concerned??
  7. Hello all, I was approached with an offer to purchase a full Two Brothers single can exhaust with a kit to match at a very very reasonable price. My question is what will I gain or lose with going to a single pipe versus dual?? I love the sound from the 2 Bros. dual, don't want to lose that. Presently, she bogs when under 3k rpm's and comes to life @3.8k. I am thinking and have been told that this is a lean burn issue and shims will have to be installed to correct this. She also sputters and pops a bit around 3k when in 6th and cruising. Any suggestions?? Thanks, control1
  8. What do you gain when you remove the pair valves?? :???:
  9. NORTH, The only one that was disturbed was the front balancer, the rear stayed in time with the crank and cams. I did not remove the head or disturb the cam chain. Oh BTW, I had posted before about the marble sounds and thought it was my CCT, well I removed the bolt on the end of the CCT and tweaked (tightened) it a little and viola! no more marbles. Now if I could stop the ones in my head I would be doing OK!!
  10. I am such a retard, I didn't have the gas tank on so she was just running on what gas was in the bowls plus the vacuum line on the intake was open so that didn't help much either. Got her all back together, got her clothes back on and she is running just fine. Damn I love this bike. Rode her today and she is tip top. It is amazing how one tooth on that balancer can make that much of a difference. Thanx 4 your support you guys are the greatest. Many many props to the XX ORGANIZATION!!! I'm not feeling very fuzzy anymore. Peace out, Control1
  11. Hello all, BTW, turns out I did have a bent shift fork ®. M3, M4, C4, C5 were also worn on the dogs and windows. She now shifts sooooo damn sweet, it's like having a new bike. I screwed up and got my front balancer out of time and now she is a little fuzzy. The front balancer can be serviced without removing the engine, just have to drop the oil pan, which I did and now seems to be running worse, backfiring throught the carbs  . What the hell is going on, I have had to ask myself too many times now, getting frustrated..     :?: :?:
  12. Anyone from Alabama on this site??
  13. J, As far as running the engine out of the bike you would have to have some sort of fixture to mount it in, with a fuel cell and then it would still be difficult to tell if she's right (for instance your balancers are out of time.) Exxcellent idea though, might have to look into that. Good luck J, it sucks when you think it is right and you get it all back together and it is not.
  14. It is like Elixxer said just taking the time to make sure everything is in time and lined up, makes all the difference. A second set of eyeballs is not a bad idea either. BTW guys, the external adjustments is to adjust the backlash of the gears and it doesn't take much, each indicator has marks that are only one or two degrees apart. Since I didn't get everything in time I will be removing the engine tonight prob.
  15. I did try to make the external adjustments to no avail. Damn shame, I didn't want to remove the engine again.
  16. I had to replace 3rd and 4th gears in the tranny, and when I put the halves back together, I lined up the mark on the balancer with the mark on the case all the while making sure my timing marks on the crank and cams were on also. Go figure. I am not 100% sure that was the right mark and not a mark on the end of the shaft as illustrated in the shop manual. But I do not remember seeing (in the manual) the marks that I actually aligned.
  17. Good day all, I am back on the road again but for how long I don't know. I'm not sure, but I think that when I put my baby back together I didn't get the rear balancer shaft in time with the rest of the gears  . How much damage can I inflict if I don't get that shaft in time?? I was kinda hoping that one of my engine hangers was not torqued right or was loose, but I thought I checked it and double checked it, I may have even tripple checked it.. I now have a vibration that was not there before, and I am hearing those damn marbles in the engine which sound like valves but I believe it to be a CCT.
  18. Thats a bet DEMON  , I think I am just going to buy new parts and remove the guess work.
  19. I am the second owner, possibly third of XX, not exactly sure what her history is. I have the tranny apart from the motor, M3,M4 and their mates show signs of wear, but not sure if I back kut, will it cause premature wear and have to replace them in 10k mi. or so since the edges are sharper on the dogs. Will I lose some of the integrity of the gear??? The shift forks appear to be straight and only one appears to have wear on one side. I am thinking that I should just replace any worn components with new parts and save the headaches.
  20. You guys are awesome, thanks for the info, hopefully Mark is the greatest and he can just blink,, and the damn thing will be good as new. I will let you guys know how it turns out, hopefully I will be turning my tires again soon.  Have any of you had dealings with Service Honda, if so, how do you rate them?? :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :!: :!: :!:
  21. Thanxs for the info DEMON.
  22. XX has @ 9k miles. So you don't recommend back cutting to save $$. Parts r not cheap ya no.
  23. Good day all, I am new and need some advice. I am a proud owner of a 97' BB and fourth gear will not stay engaged, I have considered getting the gears back cut?? hopefully this is a good term. Wanted 2 no if anyone has had this done, what the results were, should I just invest in new parts?? Does anyone know a shop that does this type of work. Any recomendations on a reasonably priced parts dealer?? P.S. I have revealed the vital interior of this powerplant and the dogs on M3,M4 are worn. My baby, she needs me.
