  3. Ha ha ....the show is over. No more bitch slapping each other ...I apologize for my comments. Just wanted some good solid advice for someone that can't spend every weekend in the garage tinkering with the bike. I haven't even washed it since I bought it ....just have too many other priorities at home at the moment so when it comes to vehicle maintenance, I typically just rely on the experts at the dealerships. I got good advice from most and the least this thread did was talk myself out of chumping over $450 to get butt raped. I mean, come on ....this is a Honda. These things are bullet proof, right? Will ...thanks for the invite. Definitely want to take you up on it ...I'll see what I can take care of this weekend w/ maintenance and let you know what I can't do and see if you/Tom can show me the ropes. Have fun at TBME! Steve The bad part about the "experts" is that sometimes in the haste to get one bike off the rack and get the next one on, they miss shit, fuck up shit, install shit wrong, etc. I had someone do my brakes a few years ago on my Kat and on the way home I noticed a part dragging. I got home safely and noticed that the caliper mount wasn't bolted in. Had that part caught a hole in the ground it would have thrown me off at speed. Needless to say I called them, gave them a royal reaming, and had them come get the bike and take it in their truck back to fix it, then double checked the work after it was done. Since then, besides tire changes, I've tried not to have the dealer do ANY services for me, and I'm hoping to one day get the garage on point, or some spot in the basement, where I can set up a tire mount and balance spot too, then they can kiss my ass unless the motor lunches itself, and in that case I'm just gonna buy a new one.
  4. I got 10K out of the last set of Avon 45/46 that I put on my XX and there was NO cupping. I've got about 4 or 5K on the current set of Avons and no cupping there either.
  5. Loose speedo cable? What year, and is it the digital dash or the analog gauge cluster? Never heard of anything like that before...

  7. I truly understand the need for caution, but since I usually don't have a second set of hands helping me, I've had to figure out ways to do stuff solo. I am VERY cautious when doing this because I know what could happen, but it's been the best way for me to do it alone.
  8. I've had both wheels off at the same time too. Centerstand, take off rear, standard hydraulic floor jack under the oil pan, jack up just enough to get the front off. I then used my tie downs and strung them across a joist in the ceiling of the garage for extra support connected to the handle bars with my canyon dancer, just in case. Wasn't worried about anyone touching the bike, since it was just me working out there.

  10. That there is a good thread, if I do say so myself. Seems 14K is about average for a stock chain though some folks can make em last longer.
  11. I usually use a small C-clamp, slowly hand tightening it until all the pistons seat into the caliper, with the old pads on so I don't damage the new ones. Then put the new pads on and slap it back together. Should fit without a hitch. But then I usually change my pads without removing the wheel or the calipers, it's very easy to do without removing anything, takes all of 30 minutes or so for me to do both fronts and the rear.
  12. Like OZDave said, there are other reasons besides power. I've heard that it smooths out fuel delivery across the entire power range, so you don't have the typical flat spots you might otherwise have. It also smooths out power delivery for less jerky throttle response, and can, depending on the map used, give better gas mileage. I'm used to my XX without a PC, but I've thought about trying it out to see what everyone is talking about.
  13. That may be the answer. Right now it looks like there are only two light sources - outside the speedo and outside the tach. I will have to look at pulling the cluster out and taking a look, the next time Squareman and I have a maintenance meeting. LOL! Is that what we're calling it ? Bring it on bub. We'll get the gauge cluster sorted out and lit properly and get you back on the road in no time. Maybe that's an excuse to come down to Kentucky... :icon_think:
  14. Hmm that's interesting. I, too, downloaded the newest available software to my laptop from Dynojet prior to loading the new map into Derick's PCII. I wonder if that would have anything to do with it? Guess we'll just have to play it by ear and see what the results are and if we need to reload, either I'll ride down to him or he'll ride up to me and we'll reload.

They were asking for volunteers in Vegas area to bring in 99s and 00s to test, and for letting them use their bikes they'd be getting a free PCIII and a few hundo worth of free tuning (Will you lucky bastage ). Should have some news soon. Guess that means you won't need that serial to USB cable I got for ya LOL! I'll use it for my GPS instead. In my mind, working on and successfully developed are two VERY different things. We ARE talking about the designers and creators of the PC here. I think the only differences were the pin-outs from the ECU and codes. If the programmers can develop the code structure and the engineers can create the proper pin-outs for the cabling, it's a done deal. They've done all that already and now they are using the test subject bikes to tune and create the maps. The PCIII is already ready for application, they just need to tune them and get some solid maps to release for it. It's my thinking that they want a variety of bikes from stock to piped to different air filters so they can create the maps for download from their site. That's MY take on the whole thing. The only thing you're waiting for is the availability announcement, which should come very soon. So you want to take one apart? Or do you just want to run a "broken" one until it really breaks so you can see what it does?

  19. That sounds like RiceBurners problem too. His was doing the same thing with the flickering and turn signals and whatnot. He hasn't had a problem with the FI light since he removed his PCII. Take your seat off, and towards the back of the bike, you should see the PCII connected into your ECU. There is one cable (gray one from the bike) running into the PCII and one cable running from the PCII to your ECU. There is a second cable connected to the ECU (black one) but that's factory. Remove the cable from the PCII to your ECU, remove the cable from the bike to the PCII, and then put that cable into the ECU. Now, you may notice some ride differences. I think, from his description, in RiceBurners case, it's not as smooth from off throttle to on throttle, and he may also experience a loss of gas mileage. He's running stock pipes with a K&N Air Filter and can feel the throttle response difference without the PC, so much so that he was thinking about buying a new one to replace the one he's got now. YMMV.

I haven't been checking in too often, nor dieting really heavily, nor excercising as much as I should, but between watching what I eat a bit more, more riding, less junk food, more water intake, and more...umm...horizontal exercises ...I'm down 5 pounds. It's enough for me to be happy with for now.
  21. I want to hear more about the Tom Tom Rider. Price? Purchase location? Likes and dislikes? Comparisons to other GPS models (if this isn't your first, or if you have experience with other models). I thought about the Tom Tom Rider, but since I have a working GPS I can't justify the expense to the CFO right now, especially after dropping the cash on another bike ("What's wrong with the one you have??") and a new helmet.
  22. That's some funny shit. My bud brought his pipes up to put them on and he has Microns. The collector/can issue was the same. The collector seems HUGE and the end of the can goes right inside it with plenty of room to spare. After looking the whole thing over, we were under the assumption that Micron sent him the wrong mid pipes, but they looked just like those in the picture. Were we supposed to flare the hell out of the can to fit it on the mid, or should it fit over the mid with no modification?? If we WERE supposed to flare it severly (which doesn't seem right to me) he is gonna be PISSED.
  23. Had it given you any indications that it was going bad? Stretched on you? Kinked on you? Anything? That scares me big time, and to have it wad up in the engine casing and bust the engine is an even worse thought...sheesh.
  24. I've used three, the stocker from my '02, a Zero Gravity Touring, and my current AirBlade. The AirBlade is right in the middle for me. The stocker gave me too much windblast and not enough pocket to hide in when desired, the ZG gave me a HUGE, GINORMOUS pocket to hide in, but not enough wind when I wanted it, plus I didn't like the way it changed the bikes lines in the front. The AirBlade with the large double bubble gives me enough air when I want it, and a big enough pocket to duck in on long rides when I tire of wind, and I think it flows with the bikes lines better than the ZG. Do a nice 100 mile run with the ZG, then swap on the stocker and give that a similar run. You'll figure out what you like best and which one to choose from. I still have the Zero Gravity in a box in my garage, practically brand new, but I'll never use it. I also didn't like the material the ZG was made from. It felt flimsy and thin compared to the stocker and the AirBlade. My 2 cents. Spend it wisely.
