  1. Likely a wider rim so he can slap a 200 or 210 on there. Handling be damned...
  2. When you click the Forum Options button to mark all threads as read, and whatever else was under that menu (I don't remember all 5 or 6 options under there) it doesn't do anything anymore. Is something broken?
  3. You might also want to consider going to the HID kits a lot of guys have installed. Go from 55 watt lights to 35 watt lights (or is it 30?) and save between 20 and 25 watts per light for another 40 to 50 total. I THINK you could run all those at normal cruising (4K+) RPM with no problems, but I'm not totally sure. Those additional lights are gonna suck some serious juice from the system...
  4. I'd forgotten about this. I'm down from 250 to 232, about 18 pounds. Dunno, I'm not feeling like it though. <shrug> We'll see how it goes.
  5. Any chance on getting in on this for other models? Yeah yeah I don't have a XX anymore...shut it fuckers...still the deal sounds tempting...
  6. It depended on how hard I was riding. Easy does it, and she'd hit 200 before the reserve started flashing, and I'd usually end up putting at least 5 gallons in her. Hard and heavy, she'd hit about 160 when she started flashing and I'd usually end up putting about 4.5 to 4.8 gallons in. I guess in the long run, I'd rather she be a bit pessimistic and put gas in early than run out LOL!
  7. I routinely got 10K miles out of my Avons, but I probably wasn't as aggressive as some. I'd wick it up every now and then, but was pretty conservative.
  8. Oh yeah, you have my chain tool. I should have the chain within a week so one of these days we'll have to hook up. How ya been? Been doing alright. Off the bike a bit so I'm restless but it's supposed to be REAL nice this weekend, so I'll definitely get out on it.
  9. Hey, that means you'll be needing your chain tool soon eh? When's the chain coming and when are you gonna be working on it?
  10. ROFLMAO! On subject, I was shifting just over 10K rpm when I was tach watching, but I also got to the point where you can hear and feel the power falling off and I started shifting more by feel. Took a while, and then a while longer to learn to do the same clutchless, but I got to the point where I could bang up through the gears pretty rapidly. I'd guess I was probably in the upper 9K range when she started falling off, just shy of 10K and the 10,800 redline.
  11. Yeah man...get with posting the pictures fucko!
  12. My buddy Derick (Riceburner here on the site) was up here last weekend and we installed a new chain and new front and rear sprockets on his XX. He found a steel aftermarket front sprocket that didn't have the bushings. After installation and test riding, I didn't notice that big of a difference in chain noise. Is it really that big of a difference? Thanks Jeff for the loan of your chain tool. Worked great. His is a Motion Pro, but I don't know what model. Only thing we changed was we didn't use the twist handle, we used a socket and wrench, but it worked great. I gotta get one. We saved him about $200 or more putting on the sprockets and chain ourselves. Gotta thank my guru Redbird for showing me how to do it. Confidence is a mofo if you got someone to help point the way.
  13. I always run a bead of high temp gasket sealant around the inside of the new mid pipe before sliding it over the collector, and another bead around the outside of the mid before slipping the can over it. Seals the system up nicely and avoids exhaust leaks. The new M series Two Brothers cans I got don't have slip on's, they actually bolt up with an X-Ring so there are no springs, and no gaskets needed either.
  14. I had the polished aluminum C5 cans on my XX. Like someone else said, sounds deep and throbby like a muscle car when you start her up. They aren't the loudest, but definitely louder than stock. I usually short shift up to second on third when rolling through my alley because they are fairly tame at low rpm. Open her up and the deep thrum turns into a nice roar. I liked them so much I got a set of M5 Carbon Fiber 2Bros for my ZX and the sound lived up to expectation.
  15. On my XX I had very good experiences with the Avon 45/46 combo. I don't know if they were the "B" series or not, but I average about 15 to 17K miles a year, and I was able to get a healthy 10K out of my first set of Avons, and could have gotten a bit more if not for the rear picking up a nail. I had put about 4K on my second set of Avons, before selling the bike, and the tread could still hide most of Lincoln's head on a penny. I expected to get 10K+ out of those. For the ZX I'm about to try Pilot Powers. I only got about 5000 miles out of the stock BT014s she came shod with. We'll see how the Power do, but I've heard good things about the Pilot Roads too.
  16. They look good, but why were they $130 in the first place? I only paid $80 for my Nelson Rigg softbags, regular price, and sometimes they are on sale at New Enough. Fit's plenty, looks good on the bike, and works well, plus they have a matching tail bag that locks into the saddle bags, or that can be used solo, for a total traveling kit, which I also have. I think I paid about $150 for the whole package...
  17. I use a Tech Mount. It mounts to the brake lever bracket, replacing the bolts with slightly longer ones and spacers. It has a flat plate with velcro on it, and the bottom of my radar has velcro on it. I usually secure it with an additional zip tie, but I've gone hundreds of miles without it moving at all. It looks like this: Here's mine mounted: Here's the website: TechMounts They also have stem mounts for the stem well, fairing mounts that replace one of the windscreen bolts and places the detector up higher, and several other mounts. You can also try RAM mounts, which the mount on the left (GPS) is a RAM mount with a U-bolt and two nuts going through the ball base. It holds well too, and there is just enough room on my bars to put it between the clutch lever bracket and the control case.
  18. Yep... I wouldn't do that to a front, but the front had already been on there for ~1500-2000 miles, so it was good and worn in, and I had done several corners on the way to the interstate and was VERY suprised at how they reacted (pleasently suprised)... I would NOT have done the same thing on Pilot Roads or Avons, but these tires are CRAZY about the amount of really "wrong" stuff you can do to them, and the chassis is doing all kinds of fucked up things, and the tires stay firmly planted with no drama AT ALL! I am positively AMAZED with these tires! Mike Well I like that...I feel more comfortable with my purchase with a few folks saying the like the grip and handling of the tires.
  19. 29/26 seems awfully low? I don't usually let my tires get lower than 36/36 and I usually run at 42/42 as well. I got 10K out of a set of Avons with nary a problem, running at 42/42.
  20. I guess I'll see how they act. The plastic is still warm on the credit card from ordering a set of Pilot Powers for the ZX. 4500 miles and the stock BT014's are toast. Front still "ok" I guess, but the rear is at the wear bars. Figure I can still commute on it until the PP's arrive. We'll see.
  21. Yuppers...that's what I put on my Stator cover when I replaced it. It has a grommet in about the same spot for the stator wires to pass through. No leaky leaky.
  22. I love the sound of two bros pipes .... that would be why I bought them... +2 Love them on my bird...deep rumbling muscle car sound. Gonna get 'em on the ZX too, when I get some cashola.
  23. Was helping/watching one of my cousins friends change the oil in his GSXR. He forgot lefty loosy, righty tighty and stripped the oil drain bolt hole threads. He was considering his options (we got it tight enough for him to slow ride home, which was only a few miles of local steets) and I thought about Helicoil. Is this a recommended option? If so, where does he purchase one and what do you have to do to install it?
