  1. In my opinion, any XX from 97 and up is good. If I were to get a newer XX, it would be w/FI. Probably an 01 and up due to the newer dash. I been looking at mine for the last 65,000 miles and it's time to upgrade.
  2. HeyPete, I have my Avon 45/46 combo on my XX and probably have 4200 miles of tread leftover! Currently 15,300 on the front and 11,000 on the rear. Ask Vern as to how well they stick...after all, he dragged many fairings on the Cherahola and the Gap.

    Chain Kit?

I ordered and installed that kit on my birdie last year. Only problem was that it was 120 links where as our bikes need 110. I simply nailed the old and new chain up side by side in my garage and got the proper length. Still working well after 18,000 miles.
  4. Hey Pete, Next time we see Chris, you distract him and I'll get my much needed parts from his bike.... :outtahere: How dare he pick on the non FI bikes!
  5. When I store my bike, I fill up the tank, put in Stabil, run it until I smell it in the exhaust, then shut off the petcock and let the bike stall on it's own. When I do that, come Spring, the bike starts relatively easy and I've yet to have a problem.
  6. What is the order in bleeding brakes?
  7. I just got done installing new dual piston cailpers on my Mustang GT and decided to bleed the clutch and brake fluid on the XX. It was a straight forward job except that I forgot that the brakes were linked! The system is very non-intrusive...meaning that I hardly notice it. I did the clutch fluid first...no biggie. I then did the rear caliper...no biggie. I go do the fronts...well, that is when I remembered the LBS. I unscrew the bleeder and hit the brake lever...not moving... :?: I hit the brake pedal and fluid was shooting out... This happened on both front calipers. When I got done and cleaned everything up, all fluids are clean and the levers and pedal feel up to snuff. What a difference! That is all!
  8. My 97 XX has 75,800 miles. My 94 Mustang GT Convertible has 125,000 miles on it. My old 86 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe had 199,000 miles on it when I sold it. It also had the original turbo unit! That car now has 257,000 miles on it AND on the original 4 cylinder engine...body is shot now. All vehicles have the oil changed every 3000 miles with Pennzoil 10/40. My 99 Mustang GT Coupe, with 65,900 miles, uses 5/30 oil and I'm using Pennzoil in that too.
  9. I have the Throttle Rocker and Throttle Meister. The TR I bought in 02 and now cannot live w/o it. I use it all the time. The TM I bought in 03 and I know I cannot live w/o it. First of all, any and all vibrations in the bars are gone. And the polished ends, well, on my bike anyway, are the best looking part of the bike. The TM does take a while to get used to but it is worth it. Great Day! John
  10. Just think...if you had a Harley, you wouldn't have a leaking coolant problem!
  11. I thnk you need to ask yourself is the three pound weight savings worth the increased stopping distance? You may be a risk to yourself and others. If you want to save the equivalent in weight, take out the Honda tool kit....it's not like they break down. Great Day!
  12. Let's see...75800 miles = 121962km. So 100,000 miles = 160900km. And 100,000km = 62150miles That's if 1mile = 1.609km. Been so long since high school....
  13. That is what my odometer will look like by Spring '05. Then it'll be time for my ST 1300. I'll keep the XX as a beater.
  14. Speaking of clutches, 75,800 miles on the original clutch. Never a problem. I love this bike!
  15. My headlights went out at just under 70k miles. Wound up being the switch in the right side handlebar assembly. And of course, what Joe said.
  16. Wow! That is the first engine failure on an XX that I can remember! Silly question...is this covered under warranty? I hope so. At least you have another bike to ride.
  17. A former XX rider, Dutch, had similar noises from his birdie after a day at the track. It wound up being the CCT. I hope that it is that simple. My XX, with 75k miles, never a CCT noise or problem. An '03 with 20k miles. I love it!
  18. Steve, I got the plug from Advance Auto Parts. I went in there with my old one and matched it up. The only difference, other than the NEW washer, is that the wrench needed to take it off is now 14mm vs' 17mm. Great Day! John
  19. Now I hope the magnetic drain plug catches all the uglies BUT I hope there aren't any uglies in there. A Catch-22. Kinda like your teenage daughter getting an "A" in Sex-Ed.....
  20. Well, at 74088 miles, I finally changed drain plug and washer. It never leaked but I've always wanted a magnetic drain plug like I have in my Mustang.
  21. My bike is totally stock. OEM everything except for comfort items. I never had a ridability problem with it from 30 degrees to 105 degrees, from sea level to 5000 feet. And 74 k miles too. Probably a Wednesday vehicle....
  22. 73k miles on mine, never replaced it and hasn't leaked....yet.
  23. Last month my headlights went out after our day at the track. I fixed it by soldering a wire back on the switch of the starter button. Well, since then, I've had to fix it three times. Enough........... Currently, the loose wire is now soldered to another wire so that that headlights dim slightly when the bike is started. Not sure if this is safe but I believe that this is the wire that completes the loop to make that lights work. Anyone have a wiring harness that connects the kill switch, starter button, and front master cylinder? Name your price plus shipping to Upstate, NY. Zip code 12198. Thanks for your help, John
  24. Okay. I took apart the hand grip assembly where the starter button is. One of the 4 wires that is soldered on broke off. After much testing, and buying a soldering gun, headlights now work. Thanks Joe and Pete for your input. Great Day! John
  25. Hi Joe, Won't be able to work on the bike for I am in the Buffalo NY area until Wednesday or Thursday. When I get home, I will start looking more in depth. Not to mention that the bike needs to get inspected...... Great Day! John
