RichardCranium Posted January 15, 2004 Posted January 15, 2004 I'm putting my oilpan back on...well I actually just put it on but I couldnt find any torque values for the oilpan bolts in the manual. Is there a torque value for them or is it just tighten by feel? I snugged them up but I didnt crank them down really tight since Im always wary of tighening too tight on aluminum. Also didnt want to squish out all the rtv though I probably did anyway. Next question. How long should I let the RTV (blue) cure before I fill it up with oil and crank it up? I guess I should ask if rtv blue is ok but thats what the service guy at the Honda dealer suggested. Quote
Northman Posted January 15, 2004 Posted January 15, 2004 If they're 6mm thread, then 105 in/lbs will work. 180 in/lbs works for 8 mm threads. Let it cure overnight, and all will be good. RTV blue (Ultra Blue?) will work fine. Quote
XXTi Posted January 15, 2004 Posted January 15, 2004 I can't find the pan bolt torque value in my manual either. Are the bolts the same diameter as the oil return pipe bolt? If so, I'd torque them to the same value (9ft-lbs). Quote
RichardCranium Posted January 15, 2004 Author Posted January 15, 2004 Yeah...same bolts. I started to go for 9 ft/lb but that seemed sorta tight. Maybe my cheap ass torque wrench is just a pos. I knew I was going to have to let it cure overnight. I'm very anxious to fire the poor thing up. It hasn't been turned over since...well since it was really turned over. Quote
Pete in PA Posted January 16, 2004 Posted January 16, 2004 I was surprised to find there is no oil pan gasket and no tourqe given for the bolts. Shame on Honda. :nono: Quote
