My bike has stalled a couple of times in the last week, and on Wednesday night just wouldn't start. I got the AA to jump start it and took it to the dealer.

Turns out the charging system fails as soon as the bike gets warm so I'm up for a new regulator [or something] costing NZ$446. Ooouch.

Bike is a 2000 Model I purchased new back in March 01 and has done 36,000 km. I did expereience a major rear end shunt back in June so that might have done some previously undectected damage.

Thanks

I wish I'd asked before I let them go ahead with the repair - anyway thats good info for future reference.

When I got my bike home after the repair the alarm didn't work, I found the alarm earth lead had been left off the battery!

I have the bike in bits tonight [reconnecting the petrol tank breather tube which was left off] and the new regularor has a big set of cooling fins so maybe Honda have upgraded the replacement part.

That's interesting since my 2001 came with a regulator that has large cooling fins. Must have been a difference between the U.S. and NZ models

Mines a 2000 model so had the old style black box regulator which cooked, the new once seems to be the 2001 part with big fins, so its an upgrade on the original part for my model [if you see what I mean].

And there are a few differences, like 44 tooth rear sproket, not 45 on the US and Canadian models [strange].
