blkbrdrydr Posted September 5, 2003 Posted September 5, 2003 When my XX blew it's coolant last month, HRCA mistakenly towed the bike to a dealership that was not authorized to do warranty work on Honda motorcycles. Another towing company was dispatched to move the bike from the original dealership to one that could work on bikes. The second towing company damaged the right side mirror, lower fairing and alternator cover with the tie-down straps. HRCA contacted the owner of the towing company, explained the situation and asked that he work with me. I called him today and was told that since I didn't see anyone from his company damage the motorcycle he wasn't going to discuss anything with me. (the Service Manager at the 2nd dealership told me how it was tied down) Of course, I'm not surprised by that sort of attitude from the owner of the company who found a easy way of avoiding having to admit responsibility for the damage to my bike. I've called back to HRCA and asked them what the fuck they intend to do about this problem. To me it's simple. I joined HRCA, paid money, had my motorcycle fucked up by their contractor, and I shouldn't have to pay almost $900 to have the damage repaired (estimate from local Honda dealership) I can't believe that this is the first time that a towing company fucked up a motorcycle and denied doing the damage so there must be a way that HRCA handles shit like this when it happens. I'll keep everyone up to date on how this goes Quote
RodeRash Posted September 5, 2003 Posted September 5, 2003 That's not the first problem I have heard of when towing that was arranged through HCRA. Does anyone have any other comments? (good or bad) Quote
ststricker Posted September 6, 2003 Posted September 6, 2003 2 weeks ago I used HRCA to arrange towing. My Bike had a slight electrical problem. They said a truck would be there in 2 hours (I was waiting at home...had to hitch hike.) 3.5 hrs later they sent a truck. The fuckstick had never tied down a sport bike before and was just going to strap one band across the seat and leave it at that! I had to go home and give hime 4 tie-downs and teach him how to secure a bike. Called the HRC and complained about the time (I could have found someone much faster) and about the ignorance of the truck driver. They acted like they were concerned, but that is the last I heard of it. I will never renew my membership because it is just not worth it... Quote
XXFirefighter Posted September 7, 2003 Posted September 7, 2003 Had a rear tire decide it did't like being on the rim and it decided to jump off when I was going to the Rock Store in LA. Called em up, 30 minutes later bike was on a flatbed tired down all good and @ the dealership. Pulled it off, put a new 208 on it and I was out the door in 30 minutes. Quote
severdog Posted September 7, 2003 Posted September 7, 2003 All of these towing services are hit & miss because they all contract out to Mom and Pop towing shops. AMA MoTow, HRCA, etc all use whomever the hell that they can find to provide coverage in US and CA. So it all comes down to the luck of the draw, as to what towing company gets the call, and what employee at that company who actually knows something about towing a bike. The simpler the task, and the nearer you are to urban population, the better your towing experience will be. I had one experience with HRCA last year, it wasn't good....but it was completely out of HRCA's hands. I ended up at a Honda dealer in BFE Pennsyvania on a Saturday, no mechanic on staff, so I borrowed their tools and fixed it myself. These war stories are fun to talk about in past tense but I'm not sure what advice to give you, Bill. Quote
