RodeRash Posted August 5, 2003 Posted August 5, 2003 I just checked with the Tim at Penske about recomended spring rates. He recomended Penske 8981 shock with a 1100 pound spring (180 pound rider) Converted to metric, that's a 19.7 spring. I think Alpha is using a 1300 pound spring with his Penske. That's quite a bit stiffer than the stock 16.8. Any comments? Quote

The correct Ohlins spring for me is 19.3Kg--but I weigh closer to 220lbs--My Ohlins came with a 17.3Kg stock--I am still waiting for the 19.3---seems like you may need something in between the two---call Penske--they will have a chart. Randy, BDAZ has a Penske--he probably knows the sizing/weight Good Luck Quote
BIG BOY Posted August 5, 2003 Posted August 5, 2003 Call Traxxion and talk to mr fitzgerald, he'll give you the lowdown. I have the 1300lb spring. And i weigh 300 lbs. I think my shock is the 8900. Quote
XXTi Posted August 7, 2003 Posted August 7, 2003 My 8981 has an 1100 spring and it works great. I weigh about 230 w/o gear. Penske recommended I set the rebound at 15 clicks and the compression at 3. Tim told me the 1100 spring is about right for me. Quote
CALCXX Posted August 14, 2003 Posted August 14, 2003 My Penske 8981 has an 1100 lb spring. I'm 195lbs Quote
RodeRash Posted August 14, 2003 Author Posted August 14, 2003 So, it sounds like they recommend the 1100 for "everyone"... Quote
CALCXX Posted August 14, 2003 Posted August 14, 2003 Yeah, Starting to sound like it. 1100 lb fits all?? Cal Quote
CALCXX Posted August 14, 2003 Posted August 14, 2003 I would like to hear what weight range this 1100 spring covers. Big Boy, do you feel your spring is correct? Sometimes I feel the 1100lb is too soft. Cal Quote
Redbird Posted August 15, 2003 Posted August 15, 2003 Easy enough to check- have you measured your sag? Quote
CALCXX Posted August 17, 2003 Posted August 17, 2003 Yeah I checked the sag when I first put it on. I should "up" the comp. dampening when riding double. The 1100lb spring is lite for riding double. First part of travel seems soft. I should have clearified my remarks. Thanks for the reality check. Cal Quote
