pace Posted July 8, 2003 Posted July 8, 2003 I just read on IXXRA.org that the '01-'02 'birds have taller windshields than earlier models and that they are all interchangeable. However, looking at the microfiche I note that every year 'bird has a different windshield part #, except for the '97 & '98 which share the same part. The '01 part # is 64250-MAT-A20ZA and is priced at $177.54 at ronayers.com The '02 part # is 64250-MAT-A30ZA and is priced at $154.15 Does anyone know the reason for the price differential and what the physical differences are? Are these both a direct replacement for my '97 'bird as IXXRA.org claims? Cheers, -Pace Quote
Northman Posted July 8, 2003 Posted July 8, 2003 All shields will fit all 'Birds, regardless of years. The 97-'00 models were a very low shield, whereas the '01-up shield is about an inch taller, with a double-bubble shape. I replaced my ZG Double Bubble with a '01 stock shield, and like the fitment a lot better. Turbulence is increased slightly, but it's a lot better wind protection than the stocker was. BTW, mine's a 2000. Quote
pace Posted July 8, 2003 Author Posted July 8, 2003 Any idea why the different pricing for the '01 and '02? If they're identical, I'll obviously pickup the cheaper '02 part.. -Pace Quote
Northman Posted July 8, 2003 Posted July 8, 2003 Got me there. :???: As far as I know, there is no difference between the two. BTW, if you look around, you can probably pick up a good used one for about 1/3 the cost of a new one, too. Quote
Mithrandir Posted July 8, 2003 Posted July 8, 2003 Or just ask here. A lot of us have the old stock screen they are no longer using and would gladly get rid of to free up closet space. Quote
xrdracer Posted July 11, 2003 Posted July 11, 2003 The reason the part numbers are different is the shading at the bottom. If you look at an '01 versus and '02 you'll see a slight difference in color, more of a bronze on the '02, more black on the '01 Quote
Alanb Posted July 11, 2003 Posted July 11, 2003 I have an '01 screen I bought with the intent of replacing my Cheetah but never did. I'd sell it for half what you are looking at paying if you are interested. PM me.... Alan Quote
TimXX Posted July 14, 2003 Posted July 14, 2003 I met a guy with a Honda ST1100 who had a Laminar Lip on his bike. He said that it reduced buffetting by about 75% and lifted the airflow about 2 inches. HE did not know how it would work on my bike [and its shorter windshield]. Anyone out there who has tried the Laminar Lip on a Blackbird? TimXX Quote
