TFT Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 My rear brake didn't seem to be grabbing very well so I checked it out and the pads are about gone. There are some very fine grooves in the rotor. Will those grooves cause a problem? The front rotors are nice and smooth. I just ordered some EBC pads. Quote
bajjer9 Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 I ordered a wavy disk from Jaws if you want my old one let me know...however i might be a week or two before i get it coming from england Quote
TechnoGecko Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 It depends on how badly its mared. Both the bird and my VFR have small grooves, but when I bought the blackbird it had some very big grooves in the rear rotor. I replaced it as soon as I saw it, I believe I paid $125 for the rear rotor online at a motorcycle salvage shop. It was off a 03 w/ 2800 miles I bleieve actually. In fact, it was my first post to the forum! ( Would a 01 rear rotor fit a 97 ) Quote
Byrdman Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 Assuming the grooves are circular and run in the same direction as the rotors rotation, you should be okay. If they are non circular and run away from the axle then you might have a problem with them eating your new pads. I would assume that they are just from worn out pads and eventually the new pads will seat just fine. Jeff Quote
airborneXX Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 I'd slap some pads on and go. I just replaced all my pads. while you're at it check your left front pads. My left front wore out first and the rear was a close second. After reading the manual I found the pedal brake activates the rear caliper and front left caliper. So if the rear is worn your front left should be close also. I like the EBC pads so far. Quote
TFT Posted June 29, 2005 Author Posted June 29, 2005 I ordered 3 sets of pads, figured I would replace them all. Assuming the grooves are circular and run in the same direction as the rotors rotation, you should be okay. The grooves are circular and not very deep at all. Very minor so I guess I should be ok. The pads should be here in a week. Thanks for the info. Quote
Byrdman Posted June 30, 2005 Posted June 30, 2005 On second thought, maybe you should fly me up there to personally inspect it myself! I think July is a nice time of year up there except for the quail-sized mosquitos! Quote
