Involute Posted June 26, 2005 Posted June 26, 2005 Time once again to prove my ignorance. What is the thicker oil and better suited to hot weather riding? 10W-30 or 5w-40 I'v been using Shell RotellaT 5W-40 and just put in the new Mobil 1 10W-30 and started second guessing myself with a 3500 mile ride coming up. Northman Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 I just did the complete Hookers trip on Amsoil 0W40, and have never had slicker shifting 8) Stick with the 5-40, IMO, if those are your only two choices. Quote

Would that be full synth, semi synth, or standard grade? I'm currently running 10w-30 mobile 1 synth and shifting sucks. :x Quote
Northman Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 Amsoil fully synthetic 4 stroke oil. I think it's marketed for ATV's & 4 stroke dirt bikes. Quote
xfuctx Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 I'll check wally world for some. Just a side note: I've flogged many of my vehicles and have yet to see the oil drain as gold as the XX. Quote
Pete in PA Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 Just a note to all you 10-30 users, It's not called for in the manual unless the temp stays between 10 and 90 deg. F. It gets warmer then that even here in PA. Quote
